It keeps up with me
I love my Denim and Silk machine. All metal gears mean I really can sew corsets. I often exceed the manufacturer's recommendations for layers of denim (which is fairly high to begin with) but my Denim and Silk machine has never caused me a moment's trouble.

EuroPro deserves to be remembered along side Viking Husqvarna for durability and those who say otherwise are probably selling Vikings.

Euro-Pro 6130 Deluxe Denim & Silk Machine
Got my sewing machine early for Christmas from my daughter. I have loved it ever since I got it out of the box and started using it. The manual is very clear with detailed instructions and step-by-step pictures. My favorite feature is the automatic needle threader. Had to look at the picture and the instructions for a few minutes to figure it out, but it works great every time. The machine feels very solid even though it is very light. I love the cover that slides down over it and the carrying handle on top of the machine. I haven't tried it yet, but the manual shows that you can even sew on buttons with the machine and a one-step buttonhole maker is a great feature. The best bonus is all of the feet and extras that came with it! I look forward to many years of happy sewing.

Super sewing machine...
This machine does everything i tried very well. It is a nice design with easy to use features, comes with a lot of extra feet and for a beginner like me it is great. I didn't want a basic machine, even if i did not know much about sewing. However, the brochure that comes with it is not very helpful sometimes. For example it doesn't say how to use the twin needle; i got some help from a friend, and she was impressed with the machine too. I recomand it with al my heart.
The decorative stiches are great, you have pretty nice range to get creative.

Blind Hemmer, How can you sew without it!
I have really enjoyed using my blind hemmer. It is very smooth, easy to operate. The learning curve is very minimal because it has one single function and that is to hem. You can hem a garment in no time flat. It is much better than the blind hem feature on most sewing machines.

outstanding for quilters
As an avid quilter, this press has made pressing my quilt squares and design pieces a snap. It cuts my pressing time in half and holds my seams for piece quilting like a dream. I would recommend this NON steam press to all quilters. There is never any worry about water spots or leakage on your fabric. And when pressing my everyday shirts and pants, I have the option of the spritz spray bottle that is included if necessary. I found that the tempature control works exceptional for any fabric or clothing attire that I pressed. I will definitely tell all the members of my sewing guild about the many wonders of the Simplicity SP100 press.

Can't Beat It!
As I was buying this as a gift I had MOM check it out. Both she and my grandmother were seamstresses. She gave it two thumbs up and suggested this as the machine to buy. So even though my word doesn't mean diddly when it comes to sewing, take it from Mom! It is a steal.

Excellent Mid-Range Sewing Machine
The Singer 5050 provides an excellent mid-range sewing machine at a low-end price.

Although not automatically threading like many top-of-the-line machines, the 5050 is incredibly easy to thread--moreso than even the underpowered little handheld stitchers advertised on TV. The thread tension and stitch widths are easily adjustable, providing for accurate, strong seams that don't snag or snap the thread during sewing.

The 5050 includes 50 different stitch functions (made from 32 stitches), can do 4-step buttonholes with ease, and can be used to do darning, embroidery, and all manner of decorative stitches.

Accessories included are a second pattern module (for an alternate 25 stitch functions), zipper, button, blindstitch, and special-purpose presser feet, an assortment of needles, a friction-free plate for embroidery, and spare bobbins. The feet simply snap on and off for quick changes.

The machine also can do free-arm sewing for easy cuff and hem finishes, is controlled electronically via a foot switch for excellent speed control, and is all-around one of the most excellent machines in its price range.

Compact-versatile--rugged-dynamic-QUIET
It's been years since I've done my own mending and sewing, but recently decided to look for my own machine. I was very pleased to find the White 1730, but also happy to discover how good it is. Though perhaps not as quiet as a $500+ machine, it is very smooth and easy to live with. The drop-in bobbin, which is unusual at this price range, is very nice, and I haven't had a single jam. Also a great feature is its ability handle denim--I had about 6 pairs of jeans to shorten on my first day of mending, and I gave it some assistance with the handwheel on two pairs of my husband's jeans and was careful to get the sideseams to feed carefully--but there were no jams and the needle did not break. I was very pleased!! The small size and light weight of the machine make it ideal to tuck up on a bookshelf or closet shelf for storage without messing with the cover on-off process: the cover is a two-to-three step process to get on or off and is perhaps this machine's only design quirk. However, the cover doubles as an extended work surface which can be very handy for quilting and other tasks, so it does have its usefulness. Because the machine is small, there is limited space to work with in the needle area--the machine is fairly easy to thread until one leads the thread down to the needle--the last thread guide (the one right at the needle) is a bit of a challenge to get the thread through--it is easier as I have become used to it. The machine has an automatic needle threader which is a welcome addition for me--I am middle-aged and my eyes are grateful for that assistance! The 1730 has stretch stiches, including overlock stitches, and a free arm.

With the light weight of the machine, the power of the motor and the many conveniences and stitch options, it is a great little machine. Be aware that for a few dollars more ($30-50) you can get the White W750 which is the same motor and everything, but with added stitches and the really great auto needle feature--the needle always stops in the "up" position. If you have a stiff shoulder due to arthritis or other medical condition, that "auto-up" feature saves you a lot of repetitious work with the hand wheel.

All in all, White really has done a great job with this little machine and I am glad to have it. It solves a lot of problems for me and for a very economical price.

Singer Featherweight 132Q
I recently acquired a used Singer Featherweight 132Q which was only used twice prior to my purchase. Although I like that it is lightweight and easy to use, I found it to be very noisy. I do not know if this is typical of the machine, but I would prefer it to be quieter.

Excellent Machine for the Price!
I purchased this machine specifically for the doll-making part of my studio work and it has become my favorite machine for most projects, from historic costumes to quilt piecing. It required initial adjustment to the bobbin tension, which was way too tight, but has held up beautifully to heavy use. Handles fine fabrics and denim equally well. A nice little workhorse for an excellent price!

Buy an old one instead
if you can find one, that is. There are several excellent reasons the old Model 221 Singer Featherweights cost several hundred dollars even if they're more than half a century old. This new Model 132's skimpy 90 day labor warranty isn't necessarily one of them.

Simplicity = NO customer service!
I recently purchased this machine through Amazon, and it was defective - the feeder teeth that move the fabric through the machine did not work/move at all. I called Simplicity's 1-800 customer help number at least 10 times; a machine answered every time. I left three messages and NEVER received a call back in two weeks. No other number is listed for the company. I finally returned the sewing machine through Amazon. (And I can't say enough about how great Amazon is about returns when something is wrong with the product - much appreciated!) I then bought another sewing machine but it is NOT a Simplicity - why buy from a company that won't even return your calls? I got a Brother instead ... so far, so good.

Great sturdy machine with one small problem
I received this Simplicity sewing machine as a Christmas present this year, and love it. It seems to be well built, is very sturdy, has a carrying handle on top, and comes with a great variety of sewing feet, including an embroidery foot! The ONLY problem I have found so far (and I've used this machine for at least three hours a day since Christmas), is that the machine has trouble starting out slow on it's own -- you need to manually turn the side wheel, which is difficult when you're trying to do foundation piecing for a quilt. I've found myself trying to hold the fabric steady, turn the wheel AND hit the reverse button all at the same time! I'm also not crazy about the location of the reverse button -- it is awkward to get my right hand over to the left side of the machine -- but I guess I'll get used to it. I'd rate this machine 5-star for a beginner's machine, but serious quilters may want to look for a machine with more advanced features.

Best Buy / Excellent Product
Wow! I received my sewing machine and am in complete awe at the price and quality of this machine. I haven't sewn in 20 years and can't believe how easy this machine is to use. Just take a few minutes to read the manual and you're set to go. The problem solving information was super helpful too. I have shopped around for a while and had an old Singer years ago, so I initially thought I'd go with a Singer model, but Boy! am I glad I didn't!!! This model is very sturdy and the quality is worth much more than this price. Within 2 hours I had set up the machine, read the manual, hemmed a pair of curtains, made a fleece throw and fixed a zipper in a pair of pants!!! I love the needle threader. I am so pelased with this machine that I'm telling everyone I know. If I can use this machine this quickly and successfully... anyone can!
