Owned a Rowenta before, this one is OUTSTANDING!!!
I just broke my beloved 2 year old Rowenta, and went on a search to find a suitable replacement. I was incredibly leery of spending $100 + for a new iron when I had just bought one within two years.

Let me tell you, it's worth every penny! The redesign of the handle and temperature dial makes for a much more comfortable grip. This soleplate glides as effortlessly as the older design, which is a relief. The spray function is wider and mists better, and the steam function is much more responsive and forceful. Also, the vertical steam actually works quite well on this incarnation.

The biggest improvement on this version is the amount of steam, the temperature, and the iron's over-all effective use of both. I was able to iron three very difficult cotton shirts (which had sat in the laundry basket for over a week) in about an hour. They had perfect creases, were completely wrinkle-free and totally dry when I was done.

As far as the light display for the temperature, I had thought that was a bit of a silly feature at first. After using it, however, I've found that it's a rather useful tool in maintaining the leak-proof operation of my iron. This is evident right after refilling, when the light warns you that the iron isn't hot enough to begin again.

Now, all I need to do is be more careful so that I can get many more years out of this one!

Great iron - deceptive "price" Caveat Emptor!
I've seen this iron at numerous stores, catalogues, web sites (even Rowenta's own site), but NEVER at $175.00. It's consistently listed at $139.00

J&R Music and Computer World ought to be ashamed for this deceptive price inflation in order for their "discount" to appear sizeable.

This is a fantastic iron!
I iron 365 shirts a year. I don't mind ironing but this iron made it a joy to do! This is by far the best iron I have every used. It does a much better job than any iron I have tried. My shirts look better than they ever have. The heat of the soleplate is constant, it glides effortlessly and the amount of steam is great. I wondered if I should be spending this amount of money on an iron. After using the Rowenta DX-9800 for over a month, I am so happy that I did! It is a great value for the quality of the product. I like the weight of the iron and everything about it. I got used to it right away and enjoy ironing with it. If do a lot ironing or even a little bit, you will be very happy that you bought this iron. It is a very superior product. Rowenta should get an award for the excellence of the design of this iron.

Best Yet!
This is the best iron I have ever tried. If you don't always get to your ironing right away it allows you to steam all of the wrinkles out in no time. It produces an amazing amount of steam. It is what I would call medium weight. The only problem I have had is that eons ago I developed a habit of sitting an iron on the heel while I adjust the ironing piece. You can't do that with this iron. Oh well, it was a bad habit anyway. I highly recommend this iron!

Wonderful Product
I purchased this item at the beginning of this year and absolutely love it. You can use this iron for regular steam ironing or verticle items such as jackets and long evening dresses. This steam iron gets dried wrinkles out of cotton material and also allows you to hold a velvet blazer on a hanger and steam all of the wrinkles out of it too. I really love it and use it all of the time. I am purchasing one for my daughter for Christmas. I am sure she will love it as much as I do.

Finally...the Perfect Iron
Ok I will be the first to review - and from a guy :) Let me start off with I iron all of my clothes which my wife stipulated before we got married :) Ok so being a guy I did not want to spend hours ironing my shirts plus I wanted them to look as if they came from the dry cleaners. I had the Rowenta Professional and honestly it was horrible. So I almost did not go with Rowenta but as I researched steam generators it came down to this and Euro-Pro. I decided to stick with Rowenta and I am glad I did. My ironing is a snap. The steam that comes out of this machine is unbelievable and that is what removes wrinkles. I highly recommend this iron if you want to cut your ironing in half. Also be sure and call Rowenta customer service and see if there is a rebate. I called with questions and then asked about a rebate they then sent out a form just from Rowenta - 20 bucks. Helps with the sting of a $200 iron :)

Pros:
1.STEAM!!! Lots of it and very powerful.
2.You can steam hanging garments.
3.Big water basin in the base so no more running out of water

Cons:
1. It is bulky. Can't hang on the wall :)
2. After about 15 irons you do need to rinse out the boiler. Very easy but price you pay for the steam.
3.Creates a rumble noise every once in awhile while the water is being injected into the boiler.

Steaming in the Carribean
I first used the Rowenta Steam Generator a couple of weeks ago while on a Radisson Cruise ship in the Caribean a couple of weeks ago. It was so much quicker than a regular iron and did such a professional job that I was actually enjoying ironing! There is tons of steam and that is what makes the process so fast and the results so professional looking. I bought one as soon as I got back and love it.

Excellent iron
Excellent iron, no give or take.
The sole is always clean, the rubber grip is most grippable, the iron glides easily and its weight and size are just right for the hand.
Not expensive. What else one can wish?
Yes, and I got it second-hand, feels and performs like new.

Amazing quality for the price
I was skeptical about this iron at first, noting that anything this cheap usually works well at first but self-destructs very quickly. I have had this iron for a couple of months now and it hasn't failed me yet (it has even outlasted several more expensive irons I have purchased over the years). I really like some of the thought that Haier put into the design. The swivel cord always keeps the cord out of my way and there are so many steam jets spaced around that it responds very sensitively to your control (you can steam it just a little or completely soak your clothes just as easily). This iron goes beyond the conventional design flaws typical of irons without going too overboard and getting a Super Iron from The Sharper Image.

Works great
This iron is a lot better than anything I have used before. Lots of steam and easly to fill. Well made and common sense design. It is exactly the same as the excellent "National" brand irons sold in Japan.

Highly recommended.

Great iron!
(Permanent Press afficionados need not read this review).
I purchased this iron a year ago and now will buy one for my Mom. It is lightweight and very capable of giving a good press. It will do linen and 100% cotton with relative ease. The removable plastic tank makes the whole ironing experience that much easier. If you are doing cotton and you use a lot of steam AND spray you can just pop it off and refill and be back in business in no time. Both the aforementioned steam and spray work very well and the retractable cord completes my enjoyment of this great labor saving device.

One of the few Philips Iron in the 2002 US market.
This is the 90's Mistral series and is the practically the only Philips Iron available these days in the US market (the new Mistral line, available in Europe, is not yet here). If you have all Philips appliances then this is the one. The iron works very well, it is durable and strong. The flow of steam is steady. Very well made in Mexico, I saw this iron in a UK 1998 catalog. (...)

outstanding for quilters
As an avid quilter, this press has made pressing my quilt squares and design pieces a snap. It cuts my pressing time in half and holds my seams for piece quilting like a dream. I would recommend this NON steam press to all quilters. There is never any worry about water spots or leakage on your fabric. And when pressing my everyday shirts and pants, I have the option of the spritz spray bottle that is included if necessary. I found that the tempature control works exceptional for any fabric or clothing attire that I pressed. I will definitely tell all the members of my sewing guild about the many wonders of the Simplicity SP100 press.

What a great sewing tool!
I've dreamed of owning this steam generator iron for a long time, and thanks to Amazon's wish list, I received it as a Christmas gift. The timing was great since I'm in the middle of sewing bridesmaid and groom's mother wedding dresses. I haven't put the iron down yet. It works great and I'm not sure how I ever survived without it.

It actually makes the ironing task so much easier. It produces a large amount of steam that helps to make flat seams and sharp hems. I've even used it vertically to steam wrinkles out of velvet and hanging curtains.

This iron is lighter and a little smaller than a regular steam iron so it provides more flexibility in getting into smaller seams. You need to plan where you will be placing the unit when you sew. The steam generator is big, and shouldn't be placed on the ironing board because of space restrictions and stability. There is ample cord length so it can be placed on the floor or a table close to the ironing board. The manufacturer recommends tap water for use in this iron. It is cleaned by emptying it out and refilling it every 10 uses.

My only complaint is that it needs a view window or some type of indicator for determining when it needs to be refilled. It's a guessing game to try and figure out how much water is still in the unit. This is minor when compared to the great performance of the product.

Worth every penny
Spend the $, get the best
Steam generation is continuous making the aweful job of ironing as easy as it can be.
I've stopped taking my shirts to the cleaners for pressing. This iron is so easy to use and so effective that I now starch my own shirts with liquid starch. I just dip the shirts in a starch bath in the sink and then spin them out in the washer spin cycle, then hang them to dry (wrinkles and all).
When I go to press them, the steam produced from this iron penetrates right through the dry fabric and starch reactivating it for a crisp press that's better than professional.

Miracle iron!
Unbelievable- this iron makes me actually look forward to ironing. I have had 4 frinds bring their ironing here and they all want one. I have heard of this iron for over 10 years and thought - how dumb to spend so much money on an iron. I wish I had bought one ten years ago and if it broke today I would go out tomorrow and buy another! Honestly- 1/3 the time and the whole pile of levi shirts and pants looks newly bought! I wish I could sell this product on commission- I'd be a millionaire.
