Common Denominators
A lifetime member of the club that believes in giving a product a good workout before reviewing it, I have owned this iron now for 4 months. Observations:
1. All irons should be at least as good as this one.
2. There is nothing extraordinary about this $120 iron, except its price.
3. Consumers shouldn't have to pay a fortune for a stainless steel soleplate, steam, and auto shutoff. Shouldn't these three things be basic to any iron? (Non-stick coatings and all the chemicals that go into making them aren't all that safe, nevermind that on an iron, they scratch easily.)
4. Because there is nothing extraordinary about this iron (or shouldn't be), that means most irons out there are cr*p... ;-]
5. The steam feature on this iron is excellent (all holes are actually holes through which steam can travel, not indentations made to look like holes that aren't really. The reservoir is see-through (good for ensuring full emptying after each session, as advised [but not always followed...].
6. The iron blows through water, probably some function of the steam feature being so good. The pour hole could be a tad larger... must watch carefully when pouring water.
7. The soleplate is beginning to discolor around some of the steam holes; staining isn't easy to remove. This iron doesn't get industrial use, so staining this early, using only steam, shouldn't happen.
8. The cord is secured at the base of the iron with a ball bearing-like feature: nice, but because it is plastic and not metal, the bearing often sticks, causing cord to hit & stick into the ironing board too often when sitting the iron on its heel...
9. The iron's handle design takes some getting used to. Is this style meant to be ergonomic? If so, Bosch engineers should know that it's hard on one's wrist (the positioning of the handle puts the iron slightly off balance when picking it up and using it). This is especially problemmatic if ironing for extended periods (more than two items). Too, the pebbling on the handle is more annoying than not (hurts the palm of my hand).

For $120, one *should* be picky. Will report back next January/February after warranty expires...

Solid German Design
I am very happy with this product. However, I wish it was less heavy.

Best cord!
This is the only steam iron I've ever found that has a NON TWISTING CORD! The cord swivels and it is fabric coated so it doesn't twist. Not inexpensive, but the cord is worth the price.
Presses well also!

Overall good choice
I purchaseded this iron on Amazon several months ago after I gave up on my last, top of the line, unreliable Rowenta. The Panasonic does not have the solid, high quality feel of the Rowenta, but it actually does a better job ironing and is not as heavy or bulky. This particular model has a mirror finish - not have that brownish Teflon coating which I avoid. And I really like the removable water tank. I was worried it might leak, but it doesn't. The retractable cord is a nice feature but when extended, the weight in the base is a little light and the iron becomes a little tippy. With care, it hasn't been a problem for me. The jet of steam and spray mist features work very, very well...

But the bottom line is, I haven't found an iron that gets hotter or does a better job so I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Joy of Ironing
I bought this Iron a few months ago. Oooh, what a difference a good Iron makes!

First of all, see-through water tank is detachable, so when the water is running out, you can see it, and you just need to take the water tank alone to refill it. No need to carry the hot iron to the sink! The best part is that the Iron glides over the clothes so smoothly, you don't need to do too much. Just move the iron over that wrinkled area, and your clothes will look just as you had it done at a dry cleaner. It used to take me forever to Iron a shirt with my old iron, but now I can do it half the time and effort.

Oh, and after you are done with the ironing, the cord retracts. What a wonderful feature. It makes it so much easier to put the iron away after the job is done. No more of tangled cord, or cord hanging from the shelf.

This is really the best Iron I've ever used, and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Not Too Pleased
For a failry expensive product, it fails to live up. To start with, it doesn't have an "On/Off" button, which means that you have to pull the plug out of the outlet everytime you're finished. The water level is extremely hard to see when filling, which invariably leads to one filling more than the required limit. On Auto steam, water gets depleted in around 10 mins of ironing. The power steam burst is quite weak as well. To be fair, I do have to say that the iron does a good job.

Finally ironing is no longer a hassle!
This iron is worth every cent I paid for it and more. It's easy and comfortable to use. This iron has a sole plate that just glides across any fabric without catching on it and making more wrinkles. Since it has more holes in the soleplate you get more steam and they don't get clogged with hard water and starch. The sleek design is easy on the hand and the weight of the iron isn't too heavy or too light. I would highly recommend this iron to anyone.

I like this iron!
From a guy that does most of the ironing around the house, this is a great iron!

My previous iron was a $100+ iron made by Rowenta. That iron lasted about 3 years before it began making clicking sounds and would stop heating. I decided to purchase this iron based on the high reviews here.

Bottom line is that ironing is made much easier with this iron.

Plus
This iron spews out lots of steam and makes removing wrinkles easy. It has a steam burst button which works well because I can press it up to 3 times in succession and still get a decent burst. The Rowenta was able to send out one strong burst of steam, but the 2nd one was pitifully weak.

The water spray button and the steam burst buttons are easy to press. After a couple of hours of ironing with the Rowenta, my thumb would cramp up. I have a pretty strong grip, so it takes a lot of work for my hand to cramp up.

The long power cord is a big plus. This means I don't have to work near an outlet.

Minus

The iron could hold more water. Because it produces a lot of steam, the iron tends to use up its water fairly quickly. This is not a problem since the filler cup that comes with the iron makes adding water a breeze.

It is a little difficult to see the water level at the filled position. However, when the water level is low, I have no problem seeing it.

Dear Rowenta: Make a Taller Clothes' Pole!
I've purchased this product about 3 weeks ago. I was extremely tempted by the very reliable Jiffy brand but could not quite justify the price for their pro model. So, I took a stab at the 7800. It's wattage is identical to the Jiffy, meaning, its steaming power is equal. The water tank heats up as described and the steam exudes wonderfully. The extra attachments are nice perks. The biggest drawback, as with the Jiffy and any other brand I've seen, is the 5'3" pole. I mean, who designs these things??? Try hanging a pair of pants with 34 inseam and go to town steaming. Like with any other steamer, when you lower the handle down too far, the gurgling starts. You have to straighten the hose and elevate the handle in order to free condensation build up. What is wrong with making a sectional pole that's adjustable to 6-feet? Duh.
Other than that, don't hesitate to purchase this product, ladies and gents. You'll be delighted with it. And, I recommend purchasing the product at www.smallappliance.com. (No, I'm not employed with them. They are in Miami; I'm in L.A.). I suggest purchasing from them because Rowenta offers only a 1 year warranty. Go through smallappliance.com and they'll throw in a free extra year warranty. And, uh... by the way... shipping is free. Only took about 5 days to get my product.
Cheers....

Worth The Money!
I purchased this steamer early last spring and used it almost every day since. Since I wear linen every day during the spring and summer, the Rowenta came in handy. It heats fast, has a strong spray of steam and can be used on the most sensitive garments. The only drawback for me was the swivel pole. I think I would prefer that it have the option of being higher. It also took me a while to adjust to the rotation of the pole. All-in-all, it's still worth the purchase. Since I use it so often, only time will tell how long it continues to operate. But then, I'd just buy another one.

Looks Great, Works Great...
I took a chance with this garment steamer based on reviews of other Rowenta products. I'm glad I did. The Extra-large transparent water tank is one of the main reasons I purchased this steamer. The steamer heats up in 2 minutes just like they said it would.

The only concern which remains in my mind is :
How many years of service will this steamer give me?
Only time will tell. So far I'm very happy. I steamed 8 garments with ease.

Works only for certain items
This iron works only for things like sheets and fairly square things. It does not work at all for shirts, pants etc. although the manual claims it does.

Nice product, but best for the "power ironer"
Nice product that works well. However, it takes quite awhile to heat up and is not suited for the usual "touch-up" ironing. In other words, it's not a really practical item unless you are in position to do a lot of ironing (say, a week's worth) at one time. But if you're organized enough to pull everything together, it will save a ton of time.

Great Product
The press works as advertised, presses slacks and shirts in half the time. Irons best when the clothing being pressed is damp. You still need to keep your iron handy for that early morning before work touch-up as the the unit takes quite a while to heat up.The unit is better suited for volume pressing or volume touch-ups(I iron once a week). I cannot remember the last time I used the old iron!

Doesn't replace a regular iron, though!
I would really give it 3 1/2 stars, but had to choose between three and four.

The larger ironing surface is very nice, and it is great for larger items. It has a nice indicator light system for heat and steam, but it takes longer than I anticipated to heat up between presses or steams. It is also quite bulky and heavy.

I iron most of my/our clothing and wanted something to cut down on ironing time. This item works pretty well, but you'll still need a regular iron unless you don't mind a few wrinkles or puckers.

It works very well great for pants, knits, mens shirts, and cloth napkins. Results are not as good for ladies shirts or table cloths. It would also be very handy with sewing projects, although I have not used it for that purpose. It works best on items that are damp rather than completely dry.

    Good while it lasted
I really enjoyed this steamer in the early days. We even named it Rosie, for its robot-like appearance. However, last week (after about 1.5 years) of service, Rosie almost started a fire in my laundry room.

I had noticed from time to time that the power plug would get a bit hot. But this time, I discovered black smoke eminating from the outlet ... and the machine was still producing steam, which tells me that it has insufficient short-circut protection.

There is no recall that I know of, and perhaps it is a fluke, but nonetheless BE CAREFUL.

    Life gets easier!
Don't throw your iron away, but take down that old ironing board and leave it down for the most part! This is an amazing appliance for someone on the go. It's small and collapsible so it can be easily stored in your closet. You can wheel it out of your closet and have it ready to go in one minute. It handles some fabrics better than others but it is great on knits. Also great on cottons and linens, but true to form washable silk is still a challenge. One thing is for sure -- you won't burn the garment, like you can when using iron that is set too hot. If your looking for a crisp seam you might be a little disappointed, but not in all cases because once you get the knack and with a little effort you can have that sharp crease.
I used a professional garment steamer while working for small clothing retailer. I admit I was skeptical about how well this would perform stacked against a professional steamer, but I was pleasantly surprised. Additionally, I was hoping that this purchase would not be one of those things that sat around the house and never get used or the type of purchase you try once, hate it, and end up returning it. When I purchased the garment steamer I also purchased an iron. The iron stayed in the box for 4 weeks, untouched, while the Conair GS10 Deluxe Fabric Streamer got used almost every day. I am keeping both, this fabric steamer makes things much easier in most cases. I say go ahead and indulge - you won't be sorry.

    I love my steamer!
I've just used my new Conair steamer and I love it. This device is lightweight and easy to maneuver. The hose, although very stiff when coming out of the box, becomes extremely pliable and easy to work with once the machine heats up. The machine heats up in minutes and steam flows steady and strong without gurgling or spitting out water. I steamed a very wrinkled couch slipcover in approximately 10 minutes without fighting with a cumbersome machine and without any water spots! My experience was much faster, easier and more efficient than my usual experiences with a 10 year old Jif steamer. I highly recommend this product for anyone who steams even occasionally. It is worth it.

    Euro-Pro's description very deceptive!
This iron can only be used up to three continuous hours a day and no more than a total of 15 hours a week.
This was purchased for my wife who sews many hours daily and
constantly uses an iron. These limitations should be spelled
out in the product description prior to purchase. We will be returning this iron because of its severe restrictions. We never bothered to take anything out of the box except the the directions. I hope Euro-Pro doesn't manufacture automobiles!

    Don't let it fall!
Love the iron - but it falls too easily off the canister. After about the third or fourth fall to the floor - the steam became inconsistent and the ease of keeping a consistent stream of steam is no more! I was sorry to see it break and hesitate to purchase another one at such a high price tag.

    Between Excellent to Good
Have owned this iron for approximately a year now, has lived up to expectation of pressing features. The only thing I dislike is when it comes to filling the tank, I overdo it every time. So, it leaves me cleaning up the over spills. But the clothes get a better than average looking press. I really dont mind ironing as much as I did once.

    Worked for 6 months then...
it died. The iron worked just fine for 6 months, then one day it would not turn on. Not worth investing $30 in.

    It gets the job done.
I had bought this iron due to the fact that i had broken our previous one by accidently nudging the cord causing the iron to hit the cement basement floor, so needless to say the retractible cord option was a high priority feature that has worked well for me. I have had the iron for a year with zero problems and working great. I would recommend this product to anyone. People need to remember that with all mass produced products that there is the occasional product that may break down. The lady with the with the bad experience after 6 months should have instead either gone back to Target or sent the iron back to the company with a letter of concern (There usually is at least a 1 year warranty included with all products of this nature).

    Ironing is actually enjoyable!!
I used this iron at my aunt's house, and just HAD to go out and buy one for myself. The steam option on the iron is great-it blasts out wrinkles in seconds. Ironing is quick and enjoyable! I don't understand why some of the other reviews say that it takes a long time to heat up-because if you turn it on to the highest setting-it's hot within 2 minutes. Then you can adjust it to whatever setting you want. It's also nice to not have to wind up the cord and tuck it in after use-you just push the button on the side, and it automatically winds up! Great for storage!!!

    Very disappointed
This is my second Rowenta. The first one lasted 3 years, it was OK just that it wasn't warming anymore, I liked the weight. The DM 991 has a nice temperature but it leaks a lot. I'm very disappointed.

    Don't believe the hype
I've owned this iron for 7-8 months now. At first I loved it and didn't mind paying the "higher" price for it. Now I have some regrets. The iron totally leaks when you add water to it and when it's sitting upright on it's base. Once it starts steaming and the iron is horizontal it doesn't leak as much. Surprisingly the iron doesn't get hot enough to remove wrinkles from cotton clothes even when it's set on high. I'm only realizing this now since I've always used the steam function(which always gets all the wrinkles out) until like I said above, water started leaking everywhere. I thought I was buying the best product to make my ironing chore easier. I was wrong. I'm guessing that all the 5 star ratings came from reviewers who rated it within a week or so of purchase and who hadn't truly experienced all the problems yet. And/or from reviewers whose other iron was really, really bad...making this one look good in comparison. I'm rating the iron a 2 instead of a 1 b/c despite the leakage, I love that the steam quickly gets out wrinkles.

Ironing is a breeze for the first time in my life!
You might think this is expensive, but it's worth every penny. Amazon had the best price for brand-new out of the box. This iron makes ironing almost enjoyable. It glides across the fabric, and it's easy to control the steam and spray. It has a solid feel but is not heavy for me (and I have skinny arms!)

I am now ironing things that sat in my closet for years because it was such a chore to use my old irons. I got a little carried away, ironing my shorts, jeans, T-shirts, pillowcases, etc. I even ironed a shirt for my husband(-gasp-).

It uses regular tap water, and all you need to do is wipe it clean with a damp cloth if you use spray starch or finish. I've had this product for about 5 months, and am absolutely delighted - it's worth every penny and then some. (And no, I don't work for Rowenta!)
