informal
Unfourtunately it arrived without two important pieces, the Paddle and the Lid, both internal and smaller pieces, I cann't imagine why, it caused more than one disturbance because my father couldn't know how many pieces were, so he brought them to another country

Poor quality product, lousy customer service
I bought this ice cream maker two months ago and have used it about 20 times. It's paddle is made of cheap plastic. The end that fits into the lid has bent out of shape. It now fits loosely and gets stuck as soon as the ice cream starts to form. I tried to call customer service this morning and was on hold for about 20 minutes listening to music. I lost patience and hung up. Sent them an email - no response so far. I would advise strongly against buying this product.

DeLonghi vs Cuisnart
We purchased our DeLonghi after sampling ice cream made from my Sister-In-Law's Cuisnart machine. Nice fresh ice cream unlike the old days where you had to manually crank a handle...and the results were mixed at best.

Comparing the DeLonghi to the Cuisnart....the DeLonghi is much quiter. And that is a big plus when you have visitors who you don't want to be disturbed and want to entertain. Also the texture of the ice cream is better.

Replying to another customer review appearing for this machine...it DOES make treats with milk and skim milk. All without all the preservatives you will find in over the counter frozen treats from stores. ...

Our first batch didn't turn out great...but it was related to not being familar with our new machine. Ever since...success.

The secret to making a firm treat is to mix your ingredients beforehand and freeze/refrig before adding to the ice cream maker. Add it to the machine and let it work away. Then if you prefer a firmer treat, freeze further for a few hours to overnight.

Another suggestion is to buy the Ben and Jerry ice cream guide. It also states the innovation which I just mentioned above...and gives you many other helpful tips which will solve any issues you might encounter.

Gelato, Sorbet, Ice Cream, Smoothies. All came out well.

A Poor Product
This product simply did not work well. The labeling on the box is misleading because it states that it can make ice cream in 30 minutes. But the reality is that the process takes a minimum of 24 hours if you count the preparation time. OK, fine. However, when I attempted to pour the mixture into the machine (following the directions) it froze up and would not operate at all. I ended up having to mix the ice cream by hand for 20 minutes. It tasted fine (and it was thick), but that was largely because of my own preparation. The moving parts are made of plastic (not very sturdy). You will also learn when you read the instructions that you can't put nuts or pieces of fruit in the ice cream mixture because that might "damage" the machine. Bottom line, it didn't work as promised. You will probably be disappointed.

Don't waste your money
This machine was a complete waste of time and money. After following the directions exactly I ended up with runny ice cream, not even thick enough to be a milkshake. I tried a second time and let it run for twice the recommended time and the ice cream still didn't freeze. On top of that, it is poorly made and horrible to clean. Don't bother!!

Soft Serve Soup
I was so excited about the ice cream maker that my grandmother bought me for Christmas. The box says, "Ice cream in less than 30 minutes." My first disappointment came when I read that I had to wait 24 hours to freeze the canister before using it. My second disappointment came when I had to chill the mixture for a period of 2 to 4 hours before churning it. My final disappointment came when it took over 30 minutes to churn the chilled mixture and it still was nothing more than a soft serve soup. I froze the remainder overnight. It wasn't bad. Not my idea of making fresh ice cream in 30 minutes or less. After cleaning it thoroughly, I will be taking this back to the store. One star is too generous for this writer. That Cuisinart Dual-Flavor ice cream maker looks pretty good right now.

Good for an ice bucket or TEFLON FLAKE ice cream...YUM
I just called DeLonghi about the nonstick coating flaking off from the dimple where the paddle sits. They claim the bowl is an accessory and all the warranty covers is the motor. I've used it less than 10 times.

They will however allow me to part with $28 for a replacement bowl! Good thing my favorite flavor is Teflon Flake ice cream or I would only be able to use this as an ice bucket as suggested in the editorial review!<...

I would suggest staying clear of any company that can't stand behind a non-moving part of a product!

Want Low-fat? AVOID these Frozen Bowl Ice Cream Makers
Delonghi, GE, Cuisinart... no matter what the name, these ice cream makers with the frozen bowls do not work for low-fat desserts. (I have gone through two now.) Unless your ice cream mixture is high in fat content, ie. cream, the liquid freezes faster just below the liquid level along the inside of the bowl forming a ring that eventually prevents the paddles from turning. (The ice cream maker is frozen (locked) but your liquid is not!)

There's a law of of physics that says ice will form faster just below the water level of moving liquid. (Remember how the Titanic's famous iceberg was much bigger on the bottom!)

What makes these kinds of appliances a consumer fraud is the fact the manufactures HAD to have tested them and knew they did not work properly-- and yet still claimed on the boxes that they will make 'frozen desserts' from skim-milk (which simply doesn't have enought fat.)

This design does not work...can't work unless you change how ice crystals form. And even General Electric can't do that. :)

5 years and still going strong!
I have to say I'm surprised by the negative reviews for this product. My husband bought me one for Christmas 5 years ago and I've used it about once a month ever since. When I lost one of the smaller parts, I called their customer service and they sent me a replacement part for free. Recently, one of the clips that holds the lid on broke off, but since the lid still stays on I haven't bothered to replace it. I have never had a problem with teflon coming off the bowl. I use 2% milk in place of whole milk in all my recipes and the ice cream comes out great! This has been one of the best gifts I ever got, one that's truly kept on giving for years and has made me a very popular dinner guest with my friends since I always bring home-made ice cream.

No go.
Based upon Amazon's good price, I thought I'd give this unit a try. Unfortunately, both the original unit and a replacement unit had the similar cooling noise problem as a couple of the other reviews had made note. Amazon was great about paying return shipping fees. I'm going to give the Lello / Simac machine a try next based upon its positive reviews.

Dead on Arrival - Euro Pro Ice Cream Maker
Like two other reviewers, my unit had the loud buzzing of one of the fans presumably in charge of the cooling process. I was (rightly) concerned when I placed the order after reading the negative reviews, but I thought I'd give it a chance, with Amazon's great customer service backing me.

I Scream
I got the machine, and laid it on its side overnight. Next day tried to run a batch of ice cream. Followed instructions, but the first sign of trouble was when the compressor suddenly got very loud (basically sound and noise level of a *loud* central air conditioner -- as heard from right next to it). The machine ran it's full 65 minute cycle, and no dice. I tried to run it through another cycle (after waiting a couple of minutes to turn the compressor back on as per instructions). Unfortunately, it forces you to wait 15 minutes to start the mixer. And even more unfoturnate, it still didn't cool my ice cream enough to freeze it (possibly partially related to the low fat recipe). I think the compressor must be of low quality.

Makes bad cones (irregular)
Makes very irregular waffles. Some parts are overbaked some underbaked.... :( We have tryed two samples of this product and both were the same :(((

Rival waffle cone maker
This waffle cone maker looks more like a pizzel or krumkakke iron. The depth of the waffle doesn't represent the ice-cream store cones. The recipe that comes with it is very similar to krumkakke and definitely NOT a traditional ice cream waffle cone either from your favorite ice creamery or from the Scoopy brand grocery store waffle cones.

As a krumkakke iron it might fit your needs.

Old-Fashioned Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker

  • Convenient spout dispenser

Noisy Slow-Serve
Too noisy to be in the same room with while running...and it needs to run in order to extrude! Motor acts like a hairdryer that quits if it gets overheated, so don't try to make more than one batch in a short period. It will extrude a flow if the dish/cone is 1" below the spout...but the extruder handle gets in the way, the flow is very, very slow, and ice cream will simply drop in clumps if container is lower than the 1". Ice cream melts in the cone/dish before you get a full serving extruded.

Overall, makes soft serve ice cream but getting it out is a trick and results are simply okay. I'd try another machine.

like a bad love affair....
I received my Rival ice cream maker as a Christmas present and it was love at first sight. Of course, being the dead of winter, I didn't use it much until the following Spring. However, by July, it began to over-heat before finishing a simple vanilla. I probably got six uses out of that sucker before it began having 'issues'. What started as mutual admiration ended in bitter recriminations.

Don't waste your money
I would rate this a "0", but it wasn't an option available. I never got a decent batch of ice cream out of this product. Just a soupy mush. Tried multiple different recipes and even ran 2 separate trials with this machine next to my original, very tired Oster machine. The worn out machine made a great batch, this one, zilch.

Not that happy with item.
When I ordered this item, it never stated that it worked with a mixer. Well I do not have the mixer that goes with this ice cream maker. It did not come this all items that it stated it came with. I think it would work fine if you had the mixer that worked with it. I also think the item has been used before.
Thank you
Michael A. Velto
