A dedicated juicer would be better
I bought the KitchenAid juicer attachment because I thought it would make sense to use the wonderful KitchenAid machine to juice citrus fruit rather than buying a dedicated juicer. There are, however, two significant problems with this attachment:

1. The juice runs down your hand and arm and splatters more than in should.
2. You can only juice 1-2 oranges before the pulp strainer is full.

I think the second complaint is the more serious of the two. Last night I juiced 8 oranges. I bet it took me at least 1/2 an hour, due to being required to clean the strainer after almost every orange.

I am planning to return the attachment and purchase something a little more heavy-duty and dedicated.

Powerful, but not for the faint of heart
I just used this attachment to juice about a gallon of lemon juice in about an hour, including all chopping and several trips to the compost heap. I find it takes about five seconds to juice one citrus half fairly thoroughly. With the power of the mixer behind it, it is an effective attachment.

On the other hand, it has disadvantages. This is a messy, hands-on operation. Roll up those sleeves, wear an apron, and keep a towel at hand. I only had problems with squeaking when I tried to apply pressure sideways. I will try lubricating with shortening next time. It also helped to brace the mixer against the back wall of the counter. The included strainer must be emptied frequently, but it is easily removable, whether to empty or bypass it. In its defense, it did catch most seeds and excess pulp.

Finally, it is not worthwhile to use this attachment for very small quantities, due to setup and cleanup. I still have a handheld Oxo citrus reamer for that.

Suggestions for K-A
I've used the juicer attachment for years and love it except for the comments about the strainer being too small. A strainer with an extended pulp reservoir out the front would help, if it didn't get in the way. The extension would have a solid bottom and be ribbed so that the pulp could be pushed forward with a teaspoon to drain, thus extending the time between pulp dumps. Also, the comment about shaft wear/squeaking are valid. I have a small tube of food-service-grade grease I use on the shaft: never even thought about shortening. Very clever! Also, different-size reams for limes to grapefruit would be a nice way to sell more stuff! One more thing, K-A: how about a nice low-speed coffee grinder attachment? Mine would live attached to the mixer, as I use my Krups grinder every day, and could use the counter space. Maybe an ice crusher/shaver, too!

Stay Away!
I had researched this product for juicing ability and power. I ended up buying this one and after using it *twice* the motor just shut off. I returned this product and waited 3 months for the replacement. I decided to try juicing carrots and celery, and after no more than 5 minutes the motor just shut itself off again. I might be able to forgive this if it was the only problem with it. If you are juicing small things, like berries, with larger vegetables/fruit the unit will get off balanced shake the top loose and damage the blade. I know I read these bad reviews and said, "oh that won't happen to me"... but it did. I hope you choose a different juicer.

Dangerous Machine!!!
First off, the Waring PJE401 (aka ACME 6001 - they are one and the same!!) is a very powerful machine, and is noticeably stronger than the other juicers sold on this website. By stronger, I mean it will give you about ~25% more juice extraction, as compared to the centrifugal EJECTION juicers. After you flip the on-switch, you will feel a rush of adrenalin, as the 550 Watt motor resembles the engine of a jet airplane!

That said, this machine takes a lot of getting used to. It loves to grind "hard vegetables", such as carrots and celery. But you have to be very careful about how the vegetables/fruits are inserted. If you push the hard vegetables in too fast, the strainer will become unbalanced, and the machine will start to vibrate!! Usually when this happens, I just toss in another carrot, and it balances itself. But when you use "soft vegetables/fruits" such as a cucumber, you have to push them in VERY SLOWLY. Because if you don't, the machine will vibrate (violently), and the blade will hit the feedtube. And then you have to pay ... for a new blade!! For this reason I cannot recommend this machine, and I also think it should NOT be sold, or even manufactured. The juicer technology is outdated, and for this price range, you would be better off purchasing an Omega MASTICATING juicer (utilizes a more efficient juicing method, and also has a 15 year warranty).

Excellent commercial quality juicer !
I have used many juicers in the past, and this one is by far the highest of quality. First of all, since this juicer does not have a pulp ejection system, the pulp actually spins in the juicer yielding about 30% more juice for your drinking pleasure. The filters make cleanup really simple. My favorite point about the juicer is the quality construction. They use stainless steel for most of the upper housing. Filters are available locally. It's a great way to start your day, and hopefully for years to come. Happy juicing!

Extremely disaapointed in this product.
Avoid the troubles associated with this unit and the extremely poor customer service from L Equip USA. This juicer will break in less than a year and you will have to ship it yourself at your expense to the manufacturer for evaluation and possible repairs. If you need a reliable juicer for your daily diet, avoid this toy.

breaks easily - warranty is worth less than paper printed on
I bought the L'Equip juicer because they are known for the quality. I was willing to spend more because they supposedly had this great Warranty. After just 3 uses, the housing cracked on my machine. I called the company and told them of the situation. They told me to ship it to them. I came to find that the warranty does not cover cracked parts. I now have a $200 juicer that can not be used with a worthless warranty.
Look to other names willing to stand behind there products

L'Euip 110.5 Juice/Pulp Extractor
This little bugger is good to juice about a quart of juice before I have to empty the pulp recepticle - even though I use for this quart of my green juice a whole bunch of kale, a whole bunch of parsley, a whole cucumber, one apple and four or five stalks of celery and one lemon ...

It handles even sligthly welded kale and parsley - the toughest thing to handle even if fresh - as I was advised by several juice stores with professional-size juicers. Apparently, if you have a juicer with the mesh basket that holds the shredded left-overs, kale and parsley consistently jam that basket up because of their structure and the relatively large amount of 'waste' after juicing.

It handles even these with ease and never jammed up. The pulp ejector principle keeps the running smooth, no need to stop, disassemble and clean any part. If need be, just change or empty the recepticle at the back and keep juicing and juicing and juicing as I once did for a party for about 30 min. straight

Its compact design does not jam up your kitchen. Design-wise it looks nice, too - which is a lot to be said about a juicer ...

And the cleaning literally takes only about 2-3 minutes - mostly, running water will do the trick after I hand-clean the parts of green left-overs into the compost recycling. The mesh sieve will need a light rub (not even scrub) with a dish brush and that's it! Assembly and disassembly is quick and easy - even with wet or green left-over-covered hands. The pulp-ejector system does not throw or let stuff fly around in the kitchen either (I know so well, because my kitchen is all white).

And all that for a price that some people pay on a designer-citrus press aka 'juicer'

If I had to find a downside it would be that I have to cut apples in about six pieces, half cucumbers and feed kale one or two stalks at a time - but that would be unfair because, of course, such a samll machine cannot possibly handle whole cucumbers ans such like the four or five times bigger commercial-grade juicers ...

Hamilton Beach Portfolio Juicer
I was excited about this juicer when I read it had a space saving design...and it looked like it could be the first juicer reasonably portable for some traveling. Chaaa...you know what? Na-ha. It's not as small as it appears from photos but it's still the smallest and lightest juicer I've picked up. I could stuff it into a padded travel bag I suppose.

The chute is a little too narrow - most carrots I have to slice in half long ways. It does seem powerful and the carrots get grated up pretty well. After only one use it starts to get stained with carrot juice (happens to most juicers though) and manual states carrots will permanently stain unit. Haven't yet tried to bleach parts or anything. In dishwasher the pulp bin peice's stains did not come out but this part is a tinted color so not so obvious. Other parts looked okay.

Most importantly - the juice. Unfortunately like most if you're trying to strain all the pulp - again as with most low end juicers - there's a lot of it. Clean up is pretty easy as is assembly/dissasembly. If you like the quickness of the centrifugal type juicers AND want more pulp free juice quantity -get an Omega 500, 1000 or 9000. The reason is that the pulp gets spun around a steel straining basket extracting more juice. It is one of the few that have this feature (sadly). I have for now given up on all the low end juicers (tried most of them) because you just don't get enough juice out of them and the remaining pulp is too damp. I currently own an Omega 8001 - I like it but it is more work than I want to get rich and bountiful juice so may go back to the Omega 1000 type. Fanatics claim about these studies "proving" the Green Life/Power juicer is the best but I also had a doctor look over the report and when you read it examine those bar charts carefully - it isn't that conclusive.
The study actually shows that a little oxidation from centrifugal juicers is not that bad. Good luck!

Good, but be careful....
I have owned this juicer for over a year now and have had to change the blade twice. It does a good job most of the times, but when you start mixing soft and hard fruits and vegetables simultaneously and in a certain order, the unit will start vibrating to the point where the blade will make contact with the metal column where vegetables/fruits are introduced. The result: the maching will grind the blade and damage the performance of it. Try the following combination: apple, carrots, and grapes. Say bye bye to your blade.... (a $40 value).

will rip the skin off your fingers if you are not careful
This attachment is designed to turn your powerful KitchenAid food processor into a citrus juicer. The word powerful defines the most important problem and safety issue with this product: unlike other citrus juicers where the core will spin at a moderate speed upon the user pressing down, this will power into action as you press the "pulse" button on the machine and then spin so fast that it is very tricky to hold on to the citrus fruit, especially smaller ones like lemons and limes. If you slip, your fingers can get badly scraped by exposure to the spinning core. Did that twice and threw the thing out. It is not worth it! There are many great attachments for the KitchenAid Processor, this is NOT one of them. Don't waste your money!

Use according to instructions!
I had read a number of negative reviews about this product that had me a little concerned. I bought it anyway. My advice is: follow the instructions that come with the device if you do not want to get your fingers caught on the reamer. When preparing the fruit, be sure to only cut off the tip and do not try to cut the fruit in half. You also need to maintain a firm grasp on the fruit as you are pressing it over the reamer. When I did this, the juicer not only worked well, but I also got a 'fruit cup' from the shell that I was able to fill with ice cream and serve!

but wait, they're wrong. This works like magic
The negative reviewers, obviously don't know how to use this handy attachment.
It comes with a hinged citrus cover, for good reason. You place the fruit over the juicer, and lower the cover; sparing any contact between your hand, and the spinniung extractor. Gentle pressure is all thats required to fully juice any piece of fruit. If you're getting rind, simply stop the machine, re-orient the fruit, and continue. Its also got 2 spindles, for larger, and smaller fruit. As was mentioned, trying to do key limes(which are only about the size of a golf ball), well, there are more appropriate tools, as they are exceedingly small. Try a lemon reamer. Does wonders for anything from lemons, up to giant sized grapefruit. I use it all the time.

Ease of Use Exaggerated
I purchased this for Christmas 2003 from Williams-Sonoma (color: tangerine). While the product description states "The heavy lid does all the work for you, applying enough pressure to extract maximum juice", the recipient of my gift found that the Orange-X Ojex Household Juicer requires a substantial amount of pressure be applied by the user before juice is extracted. The disappointed recipient has also informed me that this item is a basic juicer with little or no advantages over other mechanical juicers. She will be returning this item shortly.

It works but it leaves unsqeezed pulp behind.
This is my second juicer. I had been using a Krups electric for the past decade. I thought this would be better: fewer parts to clean; not made of plastic; less effort; etc. But there are some drawbacks. First, you have to pre-squish the 1/2 sliced orange on the juicer or it falls over to the side. Second, the shape of the juicing cone is a compromise. It doesn't do a thourough job of sqeezing the outer perimeter of the orange. Third, it puts so much pressure on the orange that it sqeezes the skin putting the bitter orange oil into your juice. The last two complaints would be universal in this type of machine. I mean with the electric Krups, you can move the orange all around the spinning juicer to extract all the juice and you can't squeeze it hard enough to extract oil from the skin.

Finally, the juicer does not open up enough to easily accommodate a grapefruit. You can get one in there but you are going to lose juice as it scrapes along the outside of the juicer.

It's convenient, it works, it isn't perfect. Despite my concerns, I haven't used the electric one since this arrived two months ago.

LOADED
We bought this juicer to replace an electric unit. The OJex is LOADED with features, easy to clean componets, sucction cups for stability, rugged cast iron construction, and stainless steel funnel. My 10 year old daughter uses it and drinks more juice than ever before.

Awful! Avoid this product at all costs!
Cuisinart is well known for their quality kitchen appliances, but they failed on this one. It doesn't do a good job extracting the juice out of the lemons (or whatever), its "reversing" turner is acutally quite annoying and causes the appliance to move all of the counter. The spout is not long enough and drips juice down the side of the machine. Further, it does an extermely poor job of filering out the seeds and pulp. I think that there are much better models out there and I think a hand reamer and common strainer do a MUCH better job.

It's hard to keep the cup under the spout!
I used a friend's citrus juicer, and that got me excited enough to go out and buy one of my own. The store didn't have the model I was looking for, so I ended up with this one, because I didn't do enough research.

It's "okay" at extracting juice from citrus fruits, but after about two oranges it clogs up, and it's necessary to clean out the pulp catcher. If you want to make more than 6-8 oz of juice at a time, it may be better to go with another model.

The biggest problem I have with this juicer is that it turns--and sometimes spins--on the counter. Because it is important to keep the receptacle cup directly underneath the spout, this turning and spinning inevitably creates a mess, as the spout moves away from it's place over the cup. I find myself chasing the spout with the cup, or trying to hold onto the juicer to ensure that it stays in place. Because of it's aerodynamic design, though, it's hard to get a grip on it. Sometimes I feel like I need three hands--one for the juicer, one for the cup and one for the fruit. I found a solution to be to place the juicer on a towel on the counter, as this cuts down on slippage.

I like my friend's juicer a lot better, because it has a receptacle built in to the juicer. The juice just falls to the bottom of the juicer into a pitcher that is built in, and even if the unit turns a bit, it doesn't matter. I saw a couple built like this on the Amazon site. For example, the Toastmaster 1109 Citrus Juicer has a built in pitcher to chatch the juice.

I've decided to return this model, not because it's horrible, but because I know the other type of juicer is more convenient and less messy. I bought it because it matches my kitchen--not a very responsible reason. In it's defense, it is a cute little juicer, though! Still, looks are not enough--performance is the most important thing. So, back it goes!

No so good
It looks like a not very good appliance to me: not powerfull enough; moves on a countertop when it works; the output nozzle is too short. On a bright side, it looks very nice and takes little of the countertop space.

One of the worst juicers on the planet!!!!
This was absolutely the worst kitchen appliance I've ever bought. How someone can say this machine is quiet is beyond me! This juicer was a horror to work with! Noisy as heck, a total waste of money, time, and good fruit and veggies. Most of the fruit was stuck in the pulp bin or running down the side of the machine instead of where it should have been...in my glass as juice!!!

Never buy this item
This is the worst product I ever baught.
Vey hard to clean. Extraction is not good.

Good Product
I found this to be a good product for the price.

This one is a LEMON!
Mine broke after only 10 lbs of lemons. I would only reccomend it for a boat anchor. The handle assembly is poorly made, look elsewhere for quality in this area.

Returned it
I bought the Metrokane Restaurant manual juicer because I already own an Omega which I really love for carrot and vegetable juicing but I don't like my Omega juicer which has a citrus attachment for juicing citrus. It is too much work and it wastes ALOT. I am looking for a citrus PRESS style juicer but when I bought the Metrokane Restaurant manual juicer - I found it tough to store because it's so tall and heavy and it moves around when you are trying to juice(it needs rubber stops underneath). The other problem for me was that I needed a chair so that I was above the juicer so I could use it easier - I'm 5'7" but standing on the floor with the juicer on the counter was cumbersome and then with it moving around while trying to use it - was frustrating. It's very impressive to look at until you take it home and try it. I wasn't impressed at all. For the price (***) I thought it should produce more juice as there is still lots of fruit unsqueezed left behind on all the sides of the fruit even on smaller oranges but especially on larger fruit. The metal cone shaped part that comes down on the fruit needs to be heavy iron with strong hard ridges to help press out the juice as the flat metal surface doesn't do the job. I didn't like this juicer at all and couldn't wait to return it. I'm still looking for the right one. When companies' (especially on the internet) charge a re-stocking fee and say you can't try it before you buy it - well that doesn't make buying the right juicer easy at all. Thank you to all the people that took the time to write reviews on juicing machines because - they have helped me a great deal!

My favorite citrus juicer
This is a great citrus juicer and has very little to clean up. I purchased mine from Williams-Sonoma several weeks ago, and have used it every day since I purchased it.

There have been no problems with the mechanism, and you can take the pressing cone and funnel out to run through the dishwasher. Little effort is required to squeeze mid-sized oranges. I've also squeezed lemons and limes with no difficulty.

I have three other citrus juicers (two Cuisinarts and one Braun) and I'd rate this as my favorite. The Cuisinarts are great for tearing through a large deal of fruit quickly, but there's a lot to clean up. This one's a breeze to use for a few glasses of juice and cleanup is a snap! There's a lifetime warranty on moving parts.
