Great product once "seasoned"The only issue I had with it was "seasoning" it. You have to plug it in and let it heat up for about an hour. Try 3... and in a VERY ventilated garage because the smell that came from this device was horrible! I was told that's normal and that it goes away, which it did. It's just not something you want to do in a smaller, non ventilated area.
I gave it 4 stars simply because of the "seasoning" process. But otherwise, it's a great product and I look forward to using it a lot more.
NESCO - The First Name in Quality Kitchen Appliances!!The 6-quart model is NESCO's most popular sized roaster oven. You can easily prepare a meal for a family of four. But what sets it apart is its versatility. You can cook from 150 to 400 degrees which separates it from a traditional slow cooker. You can bake, steam, poach, roast and slow cook. The heating element, known as the 'Circle of Heat' extends around the sides of the unit so there will be no burnt food at the bottom of the roaster.
What can you cook in it? The real answer is: What can't you cook in it? You are only limited by the size of the unit. For meats such as pork, poultry and beef, you will be rewarded with the most moist servings that you have ever experienced. Soups, stews and casseroles turn out wonderfully in the NESCO. One of my favorite dishes is Swiss steak as the NESCO tenderizes lean cuts of beef such as round steak and the 'circle of heat' blends the flavors perfectly.
NESCO also offers several accessories on their nesco.com website. I purchased a lid with a fan and that converts your unit into a convection cooker. There is also an expanded cookbook for the unit and a cookbook that discusses how to use the 6-quart as a convection oven (you'll need the Roast-Aire lid).
In summary, this is one of those appliances that I consider to be a 'Must Buy'. It is a mini oven and for busy families or just busy people. You will wonder how you ever got along without it!!!
Convenient healthy meals that even I can cookI do not know how to cook. If it weren't for my wife, I would have starved by now. When my son was small, and my wife was sick, he would beg her to get better so he wouldn't have to eat my cooking, which he likened to rubber chicken.
But a few years ago, my wife's aunt gave us a 6 Quart NESCO COOKWELL roaster and voila! I can cook meals that even my son would enjoy.
This is probably the gift for anyone living on their own for the first time, like a college student, since it is extremely easy to prepare and cook healthful, delicious meals EVERY TIME.
If you follow instructions in the enclosed recipe booklet, you can't make a bad meal! My favorite is the lemon pepper chicken with linguine.
The best part is that the COOKWELL roaster pan insert is removable, is used to serve the food and cleans up really easily. The electrical heating part never sees soap and water, since it only serves to surround the cookwell roasting pan insert with a "circle of heat".
This is not a crock pot, although you can set it up as such. Cooking times are usually 45 minutes to an hour and around 350 degrees.
EVERY student going away to college should have one of these. They are easily stored, cleaned and provide inexpensive and healthy meals. And even a lousy cook like myself becomes a gormet chef. You can use the recipes and instructions provided in the booklet that comes with the cookwell or if you are more experienced, like my wife, anything is possible. THIS IS A WINNER!

Nice Product
Nice apronThe only thing that I don't like is the care instructions. The apron has to be washed in cold water and you can't use fabric softener or softener sheets. I guess the absorbancy of the fabric would be compromised as would the stain resistance.

Good for $90but for 90 dollar it is bargin
A very solid choice for most people. There are some things that could be improved...
The sensor reheat option is supposed to automatically heat items until they are, well, "done" I guess. But many times it overheats them (probably because it is basing its judgement on the amount of steam coming off the item). But if you don't mind waiting for you food to cool, it is nice to have a one-touch feature that allows you to heat foods (even frozen entrees) without reading the package. I should also note that it makes excellent one-touch popcorn which helps to offset the above problem.
The other issues I've had are with the electronic display. It has nice, easy to follow prompts but occasionally I have to wait while it "scrolls" a message prompt that seems needlessly long.
The reason I can't give this product 5 stars (indeed, struggled with maybe giving it only 3) is because the display started having lines of missing pixels after numerous power outages. Fortunately, I returned it to Best Buy and it was fixed and ready for pickup within a few weeks. They said they replaced the part - not sure if manufacturer did it or Best Buy - but I had only the manufacturer's parts warranty that came in the box. Anyway, if your home is not prone to frequent power outages or dimmings this will not likely be a problem for you.
I should also note that the handle looks metallic but it is actually painted plastic that was wearing off on the store model and starting to look ugly in the store. However, after a year of regular use at my home, mine shows no signs of this.
Awesome bang for the buck
The French Oven's good for cooking pasta - you can get plenty water in it, and it's also efficient (washing up wise) to start a casserole on the cooktop which then can be transferred to the oven. Be careful in this case, though, not to have the heat too high on the cooktop and keep the casserole moving - it can dry out on the bottom. The skillet is very useful for starting dishes on the cooktop then finishing them off under the grill for browning. I don't use the skillet for general frying, I prefer a non-stick base.
I only give four stars because the cookware is quite heavy, but then that's probably why the heat distribution is so good.
