Not quite "instant"My only issue with this thermometer is that it's not quite as "instant" as I thought it would be. You stick it into the meat and it'll jump up pretty fast but once it gets within 15 or so degrees of the meat's actual temperature, the needle starts to crawl. I've stood for almost a full minute at most with the oven door open, which lets the oven's heat out, waiting for the needle to finally come to a halt. This is most annoying when I'm roasting in the summer.
Other than that I can't complain. It's small and compact, I just toss it in the drawer with the rest of my flatware.

Reliable Oven ThermometerI had gone through several of the cheap, dial-display type oven thermometers - the ones you'll find in the supermerket. Most didn't work at all or were not accurate or reliable. The Taylor Oven Guide sits or hangs horizontally and has a blue alcohol-based fluid (like an old-fashioned thermometer) to show what temp. the oven has reached. The alcohol fluid is safer than the old mercury - I doubt you'll find any mercury thermometers on the market any more. The fairly large display is easy to read and delivers consistent results.
Most people probably never think to check whether their oven temperature is accurate - but it can make a big difference, especially when cooking something like a turkey! Spend a few bucks, and be sure you won't have to cook your bird an extra hour or two on Turkey Day.

- Registers oven temperatures between 100 and 600 degrees F

IF TURKEYS SAID AAAHHHH!Some thermometers are difficult to decipher - this is not with temps calibrated by 25 degree increments, and numbers that you don't need a magnifying glass to read.
Also, our old thermometer had a tendency to "steam" so that it was difficult to read..
The proper reading on this thermometer is available almost instantly - another plus.

It's pretty good. The display and the overall usability is also great on this. Setting the clock, quickly heating something and other features are easy and need no instruction whatsoever.
The microwave looks amazing. Stainless steel combined with a slick interface makes it look pretty great.
My only problem is the toaster. While it works fine with normal bread, it's limited size won't allow me to toast pita bread unless I cut it in half, or toast pizza, etc. Of course, you can't expect all that much, but my old microwave toaster combo had tray replacement for toasting, so you could toast large things. Anyway, it's a great combo at a good price.

In a hurry? The Ultravection Oven is the answer!Overall, I really like the Ultravection Oven. It saves time and energy and produces perfectly cooked food. For the price, you can't go wrong and I think you will use it more and more as you experiment with the settings/timer.
VERY UNIQUE DESIGN!! WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!The door/basket is perfect for loading with french fries, tater tots, cheese sticks, rolls, sandwiches, onion rings, potatoes, chicken, pork chops, small pizzas,etc...etc. Everything gets equally heated top and bottom!
The controls are unique...If you're cooking a pizza just push the special "pizza" button. Everything else you cook will use a combination of three mode buttons: turbo(how done you want it on the inside), crisp(how crisp you want it on the outside) and brown(how brown you want it). Push buttons are used to select the amount of time in each mode(sounds hard but it's simple). You can taylor all your food to suit yor taste.
It comes with a very useful videotape to get you started. I've got to stop writing this because I'm getting hungry thinking about the great food that comes out of this fantastic oven!!
One last thing: My power bill has gone down since getting on of these!!! This oven will pay for itself fast because the price is great!!

Piece of JUNK
How did I cook without youThe device is amazingly easy to use. If you can program a digital watch, you can figure this gadget out. It also has a timer function in case you are working on two dishes at once.
Can't live without it!After standing at the stove trying to stir a creme anglaise with one hand while holding my "instant read" thermometer with the other, I finally figured out that I could just drop the probe into the pot and set the alarm. I still have to stir, but I can do things with the other hand and not be watching the pot as closely. I have recipes that require that you maintain a temperature range of 165-180 degrees, so I just set the alarm at 175 and can attend to two things at a time.
I wish that they would make one for candy and frying, but for the roasting, baking and cooking that I use it for now, it's great!
I also use it as a timer without the probe. It folds flat and has a magnet, so I stick it onto the fridge next to my KA mixer and time my mixing.
My house is pretty large, but I can hear the alarm all over the house, it's definitely loud enough.
If you are a serious cook or just a beginner trying to get the hang of roastin, you shouldn't be without this.

Thermometer review
Probe Failure
Good customer serviceThe only real problem is that the probes are very delicate. In fact, when my first probe blew out after less than two weeks, I was rather annoyed. However, I mailed the probe back to the Robinson Knife Company and in less than a full week they had sent me a brand new probe. I hadn't expected to see a replacement for at least a month. I was quite happy to be proven wrong.
Also, I noticed that the new probe is different than the one that the unit originally came with. It is identical except where the wire enters the probe there is now about a 1.5" piece of plastic tubing, presumably to keep the probe from being so susceptible to liquids. I haven't had any problems with the unit since.
If you don't mind occasionally not having a probe, I would highly recommend this item.
