Buyer Beware!
CAVEAT EMPTOR. While my jet stream oven was great while it lasted, the motor or "control arm" for it BROKE less than a month after the 1 yr. warranty expired-- and this with only very moderate use during that year, maybe 3 or 4 times a week. When I called Nesco, I was told that one year's life expectancy was about "normal" for small appliances, which basically meant that they don't expect their product to outlast the warranty. There was nothing I could do short of buying an entirely new oven (you can't buy a replacement "control arm"). How many of us would willingly spend $130 for an appliance whose manufacturer thinks this way? My GE microwave had a 1 yr warranty, too, but it's been working over 10 years without incident. I would advise all those who are willing to spend $130 on a disposable item to go ahead. Everyone else should wait until they offer an extended warranty.

High hopes and negative reviews
I should have taken the advice of all of the negative reviews, but I figured that the average person treats their appliances with so little respect, that most of the problems they had were probably their own fault.

We went ahead and bought a Jet-Stream Oven from Amazon and it got here much sooner than we thought. Amazon is great. We had such high hopes for the Jet-Stream Oven, but the various things we cooked in it didn't taste any better than cooking it in a regular oven and it took much longer to cook than expected.

The Jet-Stream Oven was a disappointment, but since it's much easier to clean than an oven, doesn't heat up the whole house, and doesn't stink up the place, we thought it was still worth the money. Then on the 5th day, it just stopped working. The display light went out, it was dead. We treated that thing gently too.

I was worried by all of the reports about the plastic cracking, but I didn't even expect it would die on us in less than a week. We only used it a few times, so it wasn't overworked. We were shocked, but at least Amazon sent us a free shipping label by e-mail, and it's now on the way back to them. Amazon said it might take a couple of weeks before we get our money refunded, but that's not so bad. At least we are getting our money back.

Before you buy the Jet-Stream Oven or any other product, make sure you read through the reviews and don't discount them. I know there are some negative reviews about various products sold by Amazon that look suspicious as if they are employees of a rival company or they are ham-handed oafs that destroy everything they touch, but those reviews are pretty easy to weed out. In this case, it seems like the Jet-Stream Oven won't be worth the money until Nesco makes more improvements to it. The Jet-Stream Oven is a great idea though and I hope Nesco fixes the problems before their reputation gets so damaged that they won't be able to recover no matter how much they improve the product in the future.

Basically a Winner
I bought the Jet-Stream Oven about two weeks ago and am generally pleased with its performance. I'm glad that the 4000 has a direct-drive motor that avoids the problems with their previous model, the 1500, that was plagued with drive belt failures. My intent was to replace an old Welbilt Convection Oven that has lasted almost 10 years, except that the control knob fell off years ago and I have to use a butter knife to turn it on and off (but then, that's another review). On the plus side, it does indeed do things like cook fish sticks in 8-9 minutes versus 30 minutes in a standard oven and it cooks a frozen pizza in 12 minutes instead of 25-30 minutes. On the down side, the fan is so powerful that it rips pepperoni and sausage off of the surface of a frozen pizza and eventually throws them onto the base tray where they get burned after they are thrown, loudly, all over the interior. And, don't even think about putting toast or a bagel in this oven; anything that isn't heavy is thrown all over the oven and ricochets off the fan and heating element while it cooks (even on low fan speed). So, yes it does cook heavier foods much faster than even a convection oven, but don't even think about putting bagels, frozen waffles, or anything lighter than chicken into in. Overall, and this is based on two weeks of use, it's just acceptable. Beware of high prices for any accessories. Accept it for what it is and don't expect to cook anything taller than 2-3 inches without expensive accessories and turn up the TV when you cook: this thing is LOUD.

Ha! Haven't seen it Yet!
It's been 3 weeks and nothing! The website tells me that the order has been processed and that it has yet to ship!

One would think that A.com could let you know if it is in stock or not! Hopefully, I can find my way through this byzantine mess of a website to be able to contact a living person rather than some useless FAQ page....

Great concept, poor performance
We bought this toaster oven from Amazon about 6 months ago. We were looking for something that could handle more than a standard toaster but not as complex as a lot of the other toaster ovens (which could practically replace your full sized oven). This space saving design looked ideal. My initial disappointment came when I realized that there wasn't any temperature setting, just settings to specify how many of the heating elements you want used. Granted, this was probably somewhere in the description and I just failed to absorb that, but it just seems that a toaster oven should have more precise temperature settings. Nonetheless, if you work with it you can sort out how long to cook small items (e.g. french fries) and it does toast very well. But, I have to give it a low rating because the elements only intermittently turn on after only 6 months of low level use. Spend your money more wisely on a traditionally, high rated brand rather than this model which was a great concept that just does not perform.

Super Toasty a Super Good Kitchen Appliance
Innovative out of the box design...good quality (so far), this new generation toaster oven exceeds my expectations. This "Super Toasty - Bagel Best" does indeed toast bagels excellently as well as bread, etc.

Design saves counter space and offers more flexibility in heating things up. Only drawback: no temperature control. Heating is done by timer so you go by the timer times in the guide and go with that. Also you have a lot of glass so if you see something getting too brown you can quickly turn it off.

Contrary to other reviews, I think it toasts just fine, thank you.

Need more improvement in design and manufacturing
I purchased this item based on the reviews. I received mine a few days ago and was instantly disappointed based on a number of things.

1. It's too short. Why do most manufacturers make microwave covers like these? What happens with other tallers container like soup bowls or plates with big items like chicken? The cover will touch the food.

2. Why is the cover tinted? The microwave door is already tinted so the extra tinting renders your view of the items inside the cover close to nill. Clear or frosted microwave covers are better.

3. The manufacturing quality is poor. I got the product full of scratches and cracks all over. There was even one long scratch on one side. The plastic sides was not smooth.

Overall, it is not a good product and I would advise looking for something else much taller in height and with better manufacturing quality.

Lifetime Use Expectancy
I purchased this product exactly two years ago. It performed as I had hoped. It fit my microwave carousel perfectly. It has not been abused nor mishandled or subjected to heat other than that in the microwave. However, within the last month or two, cracks began to appear in the plastic, vertically up to the crown. I don't know if this is the normal life span, but I am disappointed in the two year useage I experienced. I will order a replacement since I was really satisfied with the original. Maybe the second one will last longer!!!

Time saver and improves flavor
We lived in Europe for many years and had a dish cover similar to this. After many years of use, we needed a replacement.

When I received this, I was pleasantly surprised. One can see clearly through this and it fits standard dinner plates beautifully.

If you are still using plastic wrap, wax paper, or paper towels to cover your cooking / reheating items, then you are truly doing things the hard way!

If you are not covering your microwave cooking / reheating at all, then you just LOVE CLEANING NASTY MESSES!

I was so impressed, I bought one for each of my sisters-in-law, my parents, and my single brother. They are still talking about the greatest, and most useful Christmas present 6 months later!

I highly recommend this. It saves the cleaning time... It saves you from finger burns when pulling your other covers off the cooking...

Michael Graves Toaster Oven/Broiler

  • Clean, contemporary design
  • Nonstick interior
  • Easy-to-use toast setting, oven temperature and timer controls
  • Includes enamel bake pan and broiling rack
  • Pullout crumb tray
Amazon base price: $49.99

False Claim
This purports to have a pull-out crumb tray. It does not. It is impossible to pull out the crumb tray, thus making cleaning very difficult.

Best of what is available
This was the best product available when I bought mine. Everything else is a cheap unreliable product or a huge hulking product that can also cook a 15 course meal. This has a nice design and has been reliable this past month. Only a few concerns - you can't toast bread on the lower rack or you get scorch marks - the heating coils are too close. Also, it has the MOST annoying dings and buzzer when the timer goes off. You can't get it not to ding. Finally the top is not flat and so you cannot keep things up there (would perch an open cookbook on my old B&D).

The Perfect Toaster Oven
I looked around at Toaster Ovens for a while before I decided on this. A friend ended up buying it for me as a housewarming gift because I liked it so much. :) The cost was just slightly higher than a basic toaster oven but it was so worth it. I have short term memory loss and the time and the bell on it is exactly what I need so I don't forget what I'm cooking- many toaster ovens don't offer that. The black handle on the door is easy to open, and the knobs are easy to use. It cleans easily as well. It looks awesome too. I have other Michael Graves Appliances and they look so sharp. I would totally pay $10 more any day to have a nice looking appliance over a plain white toaster oven. It adds character to my kitchen. :) I highly recommend this product! Once you get it, you won't be dissatisfied!

BAD product
After much investigation this seemed like the perfect toaster oven and initially it delivered -- good size, good functions etc. However after two months it stopped working. Looks like Black & Decker still haven't learned how to make a decent product.

Works for me!
I bought this item 3-4 years ago, although mine does not have the timer like the newer models. Initially it worked for a few days and then I couldn't get the toaster to shut off. When I contacted Black and Decker they informed me that they no longer did repairs, but would replace the item. All I had to do was to tell them the model

very good toaster oven
I have had this oven for a few years and have had no problems with it. It has a timer for baking which turns the oven off after the set time, so you don't burn your house down if you forget something is cooking. It is large inside. It doesn't get hot on the surface. I toasts well. It has a easily removeable crumb tray for cleaning. For the money it is very good.

Dissapointed in Wwashington!
I too have a spot missing on the non-stick coating. I only used
it twice and then never used abrasives on it, was just fish cooked with olive oil. Too expensive to have this happen.
I bought the kiddies cook set as well and it is great.

Nonstick comes off easily, but OK for the price I guess...
Mine arrived with some scratches in the nonstick layer on the shallow pan. I haven't used it too heavily, and have only had it for a few months, and already the nonstick coating is coming off the grill rack too. It would also be nice if it had a lip so it could be easily pulled out, because it's difficult to reach under the edge of the shallow pan with a pot-holder to get a grip on it to pull it out. I haven't used the deep pan for anything, just the wire rack over the shallow pan to drain grease (mostly chicken) while baking.

Excellent
Mine arrived in excellent condition and I JUST LOVE IT, it is so easy to clean, I use it all the time. I wish I would have bought it years ago. I'm buying sets for my friends.

Nesco/American Harvest JS-1500 (Jet Stream)
If there every was a piece of junk made this is it....I have had two of these overpriced and under engineered ovens and both suffered the same failure with in a month of taking them out of the box as new. The drive belt will not work past a month. I have written the president of the company. He said his company would not "make junk" but he refused to repair my ovens at his cost: That's two ovens at his cost...refered me to a repair man "in my area" where I could get it repair at my cost...Mind you this is only a couple of weeks out of the box... The repair man wanted more to repair the thing than it was worth when new. For some unknown head failure on my own part I bought the second oven with the same failure of the belt not more than a month later having used it only 3 or 4 times.
If those of you are intrested in this oven please take time to read of the failure, not only of my oven but other people who have experienced the same failures as myself, time and time again with this machine.
This is the important message I want to leave hereon: In so far that the belt breaks on this machine the fan does not turn. Thus when the fan does not turn there is a heat build up in the unit within seconds of the belt failure. This heat build up is catostrophic with in seconds. It is enough heat in fact cause combustion of the surrounding plastic and fire insues within seconds of belt failure. (The drive belt is designed to take the heat away from the heating element and shower this heated air into the oven and thus the food inside the oven. This raises concerns that children should definately not be allowed to use this JS 1500 Nesco oven at all. A child simply will not be alert enough to unplug the unit before meltdown/fire. As for the adults, it would be huge danger to your house to leave this unit any length of time on your counter top to say leave the room to take a shower or leave the room for more than 15 seconds. I am now considering writing the US goverment of my concerns of safety hazards of this Nesco Jet Stream oven.
My advice Don't even think about buying it or any thing like it from NESCO until this design flaw is corrected.
They will not correct it because of the bottom line...Profit will be touched....It will take law suit, death or court order to get this product off the market.
Lend me your ears...This product is dangerous....Do not bring it in your house.

American Havest 1500
I have owned three of these ovens first one lasted about three years of two or three times a week use before plastic hinged area cracked. Next one had belt break and repaired it with part from old one still only got 6 months total of use before broke again. Most resent one worked for three weeks then belt broke.
I really like the way it cooks is the main reason I rate it as well as I do, but the newer 1500 models seem to break too fast to get your moneys worth from it. Also they are kind of hard to clean well. I'll probably be a sucker and buy the new 4000T maybe the direct drive motor set up will improve the durablity issues.

I've had several but I too find they go out to easy..
I love cooking with them too but there seems to be a problem with belts breaking. I have owned about 5 of them and maybe get 2 hours use before belt breaks. I have just found out there is a belt that can be replace after I had discarded the other 4. I hope that there new 4000 or 4500 will have corrected tis problem..

toster oven
Arrived promptly, looks brand new. During initial test started smoking-the broiler tray required cleaning (oil-I think on the surface).
Toster is slow to heat, slow to toast, slow to bake. Suggests a problem with the thermostat???
I gave it away & bought a new one (Black and Decker) which operates far superior.

Couldn't toast its way out of a paper bag.
I have one, very basic requirement of a toaster oven, that it toasts bread. This toaster consistently took two cycles on the darkest toast setting before it would toast the bread to a light golden color. By the time the toast was toasted, it was so completely dried out it was inedible. I don't know how it works as an oven because it was put back in the box and returned after the toast trials.

R-296 White Toaster Oven-reconditioned
I had been looking for a Krups white toaster oven, but didn't want to pay [too much]. I ordered this reconditioned unit on-line last year. It cost [not too much] including shipping, came promptly, and looked perfect. It quit heating entirely after about 2 months of minimal use (about once per week.) I didn't remember where I got it, so it sits in my kitchen holding papers.

top is toast-bottom is still white
Bought this oster WOW so nice looking! (That is where the star comes in.) Yes it gets HOT but it doesn't claim to be cool to the touch either. Bottom line, the top 2 heating elements are close together and centered on the top, the bottom two heating elements are about 5 inches or so apart and towards the back and front, sooo your bread toast perfect on the top side and the bottom part of your bread is WHITE.. We tried moving the rack closer to the bottom and it didn't do any better , just burnt the bottom edges of the bread... I would have kept this toaster oven if it only TOAST better. As for an oven it heats up, (there is the second star.)

No way to turn off the annoying BEEPing
Wonderful toaster oven! Works like a charm! Lots of room and excellent quality cooking. Unfortunately, the beeping sound is so loud that we had to return it:( Hopefully Oster will make another one soon that at least gives one the option of having the annoying very loud beep or NOT!

Cool And Fast Heating
This unit is a lot less expensive than the competing high end units and looks much better on my counter top.

It heats up very quickly and works great. Nice product for the money, especially when you can spend another $100 for some fancy brand that is not any better. This stuff is probably all made in the same factory in China...

Electrical Fault
Ordered this item and it arrived in a damaged box, the microwave door did not close properly and had a dent in the metal. Sent it back and was rapidly dispatch a replacement... the replacement had some electrical fault and was not able to cook any food, the packaging looked as if some other person returned it and it was simply re-shipped out. I have just returned this item and am hoping that I am 3rd time lucky. Amazon were great with the returns part, shame the items were defective.

Large but shoots flames
The large capacity of this microwave is wonderful for my family. Unfortunately after having the microwave for less than 7 months it is shooting flames out the back grill from an electrical problem. I called panasonic to get it repaired but the closest repair shops are in Houston & Conroe, TX (approximately 100 miles away). Of course I could ship it to them at my expense for repair. To get electronic repair you must have your receipt that you bought it. A credit card statement wont work. My last microwave lasted 14 years.

"Glaring problem"
Works fine, BUT!!! I find that the reflective coating on the control panel and display produces so much glare that it is difficult to see the numbers and icons on the control panel, and the LED display is completely washed out. The LED in the display is very dim to begin with, and in a bright room (such as a kitchen), cannot be seen at all unless you get up real close and shade it with your hand. I'll just have to live with it, I guess. Other than that, I like unit for it's power, design, features, and ease of operation . But becuase of the "Glaring Problem", I can only rate it at 3 stars.
