I have been looking for a small spinner like this for years. My mom had a small "regular" style spinner in her home for years, and I have been trying to get them to give it to me. When I saw this item, I knew I had to have it!

Regular sized salad spinners are just too big and cumbersome for some jobs. This small size is perfect for making salad for one or two people, but I use it the most for cleaning herbs. I always got annoyed at having to use my giant spinner to clean a bunch of parsley, and the mini is perfect for this. I use fresh herbs almost exclusively when I cook, and with the mini spinner I wash all my herbs when I come home from grocery shopping and just grab them from the fridge for use later and I don't have to worry about cleaning them. I just fill the bowl with water and let them soak (in the basket) for a few minutes, pull out the seive, dump the water and spin! This also works great for berries.

In addition to the convenient size, I love the fact that you just have to push the handle down to dry the greens, no cranking or pulling ridiculous strings like you're starting a lawnmower. And there's a brake function to stop the spinning. It's also very convenient that you can lock the "pusher" into place when it's not being used.

Who knew a salad spiner had the ability to make me so pleased?

This is a wonderful item for your kitchen. Makes washing lettuce and other vegtables so easy. It's also kinda fun, because it's like the old time children's toy the "spinning top" It's really easy to use and has a feature on it that I really like, a button to stop the spinning. It also has a option of storing the push top by just sliding the little slider bar and locking the "top" down. I love it's size too, it's just right for setting on a shelf, not too big and not too small either. This is a great tool for 2 or 3 people sized families, but it works so easy and fast, you don't mind using it to make even more for more people. It's a hit with me!

I recently replaced my old spinner with the OXO Mini Salad and Herb Spinner and find it is not only a great looking kitchen helper but it also serves an unexpected double purpose. It is quite large enough for a medium salad for 2 people and the water seems to fly off, and when I take the spinner out, the outer bowl - after a quick rinse and drying - serves as a great bowl for the salad. The OXO people have supplied me with a bowl that looks like glass and I no longer need to find a Salad Bowl - my OXO Salad Spinner supplies it!

I'm a big OXO fan and this thing is just awesome! Berries, herbs, salad; it all spins dry. I really like caesar salads and I let the lettuce soak to rehydrate and get dirt, chemicals, bugs, etc. off. Put the lettuce in here, press the button a few times and presto, dry romaine lettuce.

I use the Toss & Chop quite frequently, and it almost has become a staple in my kitchen. It saves so much preparation time and the end result is so enjoyable. I started out using it only for salads, but now enjoy using it for endless chopping tasks. This is a great addition to any cook's kitchen, or it makes a fabulous gift.

The illustration of this item in no way does it justice. When I opened the package I was very pleased at the futuristic look to this spinner, but how well did it work? Salad was on the menu for lunch so...in went the wet lettuce for the first use of this spinner. WOW! It was like no other spinner I had ever used. You simply pulled on the handle attached to a white rope spinning the lettuce at a high speed. Once the rope was fully extended the momentum of the spinner pulled the rope back in. Another pull REVERSED the direction of the spin and the cycle started again. The bi-direcitonal action cleaned the lettuce of water in very short order. And it is great FUN. If you have kids who are not thrilled about helping in the kitchen this is something that they can do and have fun doing it (you may even be able to get them to wash the lettuce as well).

There was no bruising or other damage to the red leaf lettuce I was having in my salad that day nor have I had any damage to the lettuce (red leaf, green leaf) in subsequent uses. The spinner has a much larger capacity than my previous two spinners and the stainless steel bowl can be used for a multitude of other kitchen chores. The only negative has to do with the price, which, once you actually use this spinner and feel the quality, is well justified.

Finally, the spinner includes a strange looking plastic lettuce knife that prevents browning (as some metal knives are prone to do) when cutting the lettuce. I prefer to tear my lettuce but if you are preparing salads for a large dinner party this knife will come in handy. It works quite well and is also fun to use.

I am very pleased with this purchase. The mini Zyliss spinner is large enough to spin a salad for 4, and small enough to store easily. It's amazing how much water I pour out of the bowl after just a few quick pulls on the cord!

Some features I particuarly like:
The extra storage top allows leftovers to be kept in the bowl and stored in the fridge.

The bottom of the bowl has 3 non-skid pads for stability while spinning.

The two way action of the spinning bowl tosses the salad nicely (no more shaking!).

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: the editorial review indicates that you need to watch out for fingers and such when you let go of the string - but you should never let go of the pull cord as you operate the Zyliss spinner! It's very simple to operate, just pull firmly on the cord handle (the basket spins one way), and keep holding it as the string retracts (the basket spins the other way). Just two or three pulls and your greens are ready to eat! I've also found it helps to place your other hand on the top of the spinner for added stability.

When I first saw this item advertised I laughed. Why would anybody actually want something like this I thought. Then I received it as a gift about 10 years ago and have used it to grate cheese & eggs for egg salad. It's wonderful! It's quick and easy and so is the clean up. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find this product at any of my local stores anymore!

I had one of these Salad Shooters for years and used it so much, one of the graters wore out. Foolishly, I threw the grater and the Salad Shooter in the garbage thinking I could easily find a new one at the store. Needless to say, I went out of my mind looking for a new one till I found one on Amazon. I had gotten so used to using it, that I couldn't live without it. This time, I am going to order extra graters from the company so I don't make the same mistake.

We loved the salad spinner when we got it. This is about 4 years later. It started to fall apart after the 1st year. 1st was the little plastic brake. Next the inner assembly. We've been limping along with it now for a couple years. Everyone we've spoken with who has the spinner salad say they don't fall apart. We're going to try that next.

I've avoided making salads for a long time because of the preparation time. I had an older salad spinner, but it was the kind you had to turn, and cleaning it afterwards always seemed to take a long time. This spinner is a huge improvement over any I've used before.

You put the rinsed greens in the strainer, or rinse them after they're in, and then put the strainer in the bowl. One easy push and it spins on its own and it does not move around at all on the counter. I have found that it takes a couple spins to dry them the way I like, but while the greens are spinning, you can be chopping up other salad ingredients.

Even better, you can lock the handle in the "down" position and use this spinner to store the unused greens in the fridge; no separate "lettuce saver" is needed. I've had leaf lettuce in mine for several days, and it is still crisp and fresh. Since buying this remarkable spinner, I've had salad every night. And enjoyed every minute of it, preparation included!

If you love salads but hate the prep, get this. You will wonder how you ever got along without it.

There are spinners out there that boast of washing and drying. This kitchen gadget nut is also a clean freak. I'll wash my veggies and berries by hand, thank you very much. Then I use my trusty Oxo spinner to finish the job. It is the best DRYER on the market, and I have used a lot of them. Instead of having to pull a cord and hope the thing doesn't fly off the counter or out of the sink, you just pump this puppy a couple of times and watch the centrifugal force dry your greens. The spinner continues on its axis long after the last pump. There is a brake button to stop the action if you wish. The large clear bowl seconds as a salad bowl, and when you are through you lock the pump down out of sight for better storage. What more could you ask for?

Have had two of these salad spinners for several years, and hands down, they are the best I have ever used. You can easily wash and spin a full head of lettuce due to its large capacity. It only takes about 3 pulls and your lettuce is dry - the centrifugal force is so strong it actually piles the lettuce against the sides and leaves a big empty spot in the center of the bowl. I also like that I can turn the lid over on my counter and place the inner basket on it while I am rinsing the leaves before I spin them. The extra water bunches up on the lid instead of my counter. The reason I only gave this product a 4 instead of a 5 is that the string on one of my spinners broke in two places, making it inoperable. The lid is impossible to get apart to replace the string, so I will have to purchase another lid.

I also recently purchased an Oxo Good Grips spinner and took it back because it just wasn't as good as this one. The leaves of my lettuce were quite a bit wetter and I didn't get that centrifugal force effect like with the Zyliss. The Oxo also has a large protusion sticking into the basket from the lid, so you can't turn it over and put your inner basket on it while you are washing the greens.

Just wait till you see how it works! When I got this from amazon my first thought was, "It is never gonna work."
Now, I can not see how I worked in my kitchen without one. This is my first salad spinner, and I LOVE IT. I even washed strawberries in the spinner's drainer, placed it in the basket, and in three pulls of the cord my strawberries were dry! NO BRUISES and the strawberries last longer when you pop them in the fridge dry. Ready to eat snacks are easy to prepare, as you can wash in advance. It gets food so dry you don't have to worry about spoilage. I NEVER would have prewashed berries, because it encourages ROT. But sometimes washing before you eat is a pain and potato chips are a lot easier. But not now, I wash my produce when we get home from the store, spin it dry, and it lasts until we eat it (3-4 days in the fridge-- about the same if we didn't wash the produce). Now we don't have to think or work before snacking, the work is done!
I would have given this 5 stars, but I'm still figuring out how to wash the lid. And I'm wondering how easy it will be to replace the string, if it can be replaced at all. I use this now ALL THE TIME, and I don't want to have to do without it EVER!

If you're a salad consumer, even just an occasional one, the Zyliss salad spinner is a must have. I couldn't begin to tell you the hours I spent washing, rinsing, draining and drying salad fixings, herbs, etc. prior to owning this. Now I just throw it in the zyliss basket, rinse it, and allow the water to drain thru the basket's holes. Then stick the basket in the clear bowl, put on the top, tug a few times, and VOILA,CLEAN, DRY & CRISP salad makings, virtually effortlessly. Your salad will stay fresher and crisper longer. So much so that I'm able to make a huge salad that will last our family several days and put it in the fridge for later use. When I take it out it's never soggy or limp as before. You won't be sorry with this product. I do have to mention one tiny downside. This product does not do well in the dishwasher. The heat will warp the basket making it unable to spin properly. But with all the time you save preparing the salad, what's a few seconds to wash it by hand??

I bought this as a gift to go along with the small salad spinner that I had purchased. Everything sounded great, such as the berry basket fitting both the small and large salad spinners.

It does have a lid for the whole salad spinner for storage but the lid only fits the large salad spinner. It would have been much nicer to have included 2 lids for the salad spinner, one for the larger spinner and one for the smaller spinner. Then the kit would have been fully compatible with both spinners.

Overall everything looks fine and as though its made well but since I bought this as a gift I haven't used it. But my recipient will have an extra lid handy for miscellaneous things. :)

I love my salad spinner and when I saw this set, I thought that it was a useless ploy to get more money. However, when I decided to buy it, I was rather surprised. The set itself is of the same quality as all of my other OXO products. The set fits both the mini salad spinner and the large salad spinner, so you don't have to worry about getting the right set.

I like the idea of the storage lids, but I don't use them often.

This set is the ultimate addition to, in my opinion, the best greens dryer system on the market. The smaller bowl does work very well inside the large spinner, and I have also found, for those of you that also own the smaller OXO spinner, that the bowl fits like a glove, thus avoiding the additional bouncing around that does occur in the larger. A must when washing and drying delicate berries.

The plastic knife is a must when cutting greens, as to avoid those nasty "rust" spots that do crop up when slicing with a metal blade, thus extending the life of your salad for a day or so.

Add the lids, and you have the perfect short-term storage system.
