I remember looking at can openers in a store about 5 years ago and an old man handed me a swing away. It didn't look fancy like all the others I was weeding through, but he said "This one is the only one NASA trusts and the one I use at home is probably older than you!". He showed me the gears and how it's pretty much impossible to wear them out. It was cheaper than the fancy ones, and only a little bit more than the low-end ones in the mall shop I was at.

It worked great, but was 'borrowed' permanently by an ex-girlfriend (she did leave her fancy one...which would butcher any can you attempted to open with it)...

I finally talked my wife into trashing the dollar store one she picked up a couple years ago....she thought all can openers were the same.

My wife is happy we got it, especially the fact that it has more leverage to open the tough cans she used to struggle with.

We been looking for a can opener for 10 years that was easy to use. This is the one. I ordered 3 more for gifts, don't need an electric one, this one is just as easy to use. A Plus item.

bought one for my first apartment (in college!) it's been almost a decade and this can opener is worth every penny. it's sturdy and easy to turn. even my mother, who has arthritis in her fingers, can manage it! i paid full price for this can opener at the time ... and i'd spend that much again if i had to -- but i don't have to!

My neighbor borrowed it when her electric one stopped working. She now owns one too! This is a fantastic kitchen tool!

Tupperware has a great product here. My old swingline wasn't cutting well so I was ready for a replacement. I won this at a Tupperware party and thought I would just give it away. After trying it, I can't part with it. The lid comes off without a sharp edge. The safety factor is worth the cost alone. It stays clean all the time which I couldn't say for the swingline. The only negative - the mechanism is so quiet that my cat never knows when I open a can of tuna until she smells it. She always came running at the slightest sound of that old can opener even if it was canned peaches.

After having surgery on my right (dominant) hand I needed something that would make opening cans easier. Sure my husband could help, but what about when he was at work?

This can opener is extremely easy to use. It might take some getting accustomed to, since it sits on top of the lid, rather than the side of the lip. Since it doesn't touch the contents of the can, washing it is virtually a non-existant issue. Sure, you will want to give it a wipe down here and there, but thats about it!

You won't believe how smooth it cuts, and with little effort either. Another thing you won't believe is the sturdy build of this can opener. It's not cheap plastic no way! Don't let the price sway you it's really reasonable when you consider the life you get out of tupperware. I think this can opener will last me for the long haul.

I absolutely love this can opener. It is the most effortless opener I have ever used. Once you get use to the face down, rather than sidewards removal, you will appreciate the total ease of operation. It's like skating on ice... such smoothness. The lid comes right off and leaves no rough edges because the whole top is removed! Safe and well worth it!

Tall, sleek, quiet in operation and absolutely wonderful for my big old 3 lb. cans of coffee. Very, very nice to look at and easy to use and clean. I hope it is restocked as soon as possible for others that I have recommended the can opener to.

Our Hoffritz opener arrived today, we used it, and we are pleased. We're glad we took the time not only to research openers thoroughly on Amazon but also to physically handle many of them at Bed, Bath & Beyond. The other openers feel insubstantial. We decided to buy the Hoffritz opener even though there were no reviews to help us decide. We couldn't be more satisfied with that decision. It's so easy to use, my wife had no need to read the instructions first. It worked like a charm. Cleaning is a breeze. It's easy to take it apart to clean and to reassemble it. The retractable power cord is a major space saving advantage in a busy counter top with no loose cords to get in the way.

What could be so fabulous about a can opener? This one left me breathless! The smooth operation, the perfect cut, the(...) style. I bought one for my wife as a gift, then after she fell in love with it at first use, we purchased several as gifts for others. We both enjoy using it so much that opening cans is a cherished privellege in our home. As a bonus, it matches our white stand mixer. We can't wait to purchase all of the Kitchen Aid utensils!

This KitchenAid can opener is very solid and works like a dream. This opener is so well made I can't imagine ever needing another one. Just close the round blade on the inside rim of the can (like you would with any can opener) until it dents in the can and twist the knob. That is it! The handle is large and this opener is very easy to clean. Very highly recommended!

If you have cats, you might want to buy two. One for cat food and one for cooking. Never should the two be confused. :)

Now, this can opener is gear driven so you do have to work harder than if you purchased a automatic can opener. I just don't have room for one, so I prefer how easily these store in the drawer.

You can easily remove lids from any size can. The handles are comfortable and the precision-crafted stainless steel will last a long time.

This is one of the great classic kitchen implements. I've owned and used this can opener for nearly thirty years. And I've given them as gifts to others, both here in the US and in Europe. It works easily, quickly and cleanly. It has been through two of the great blackouts that have occurred in the New York area (1977 and 2003) and, since it's manual, it has worked just fine during them. I would never buy anything else.

FORGET ABOUT SPENDING MONEY ON AN ELECTRIC CAN OPENER! This is the best can opener any one can own. We inherited ours when we bought our house in 1991. It was attached to a kitchen cabinet. I had never seen anything like it. Twelve years later it's the one appliance we haven't had to replace! Since our house was built in 1960, I am assuming that this can opener could possibly be forty years old!

It folds flat against the wall/cabinet when not in use. It swings out for easy access. A series and grooves and teeth lock it into several positions. It is sturdy and easily opens even dented cans. My kids love using it also. It comes apart for easy cleaning. Forget five stars, this opener deserves 20 stars!

I got my Wall-Swing-Away from my Mom, who got it in the 1950's; therefore, mine is an original. It still works like new, and I LOVE IT!!! I threw out my electric ones because they just couldn't handle the load of bigger cans. . . the Swing-Away can. Way to Go!!!!!!

This can opener lives up to its name! Absolutely no sharp edges whatsoever, and it is incredibly easy to use. After having an inexpensive Swingaway brand for so long, this one is a dream. I no longer have to fight with opening cans....this one glides effortlessly around the lid---very, very smoothly. I actually look forward to opening cans now! I am amazed every time and wish I had known about this one long ago.

Another added bonus worth mentioning is that after opening the can, you are able to lift the lid off & throw it away without ever having to touch it. This can opener opens cans cleanly with no mess, smooth lids/cans, with very little effort to do so.

I can't believe I used to struggle with a super cheap metal no frills can opener. I also can't believe I almost bought an electric one because I was tired of hurting my hands turning impossible knobs. I was trying to stay away from electric openers because they're almost impossible to clean and seem to get gunky really fast. I had almost lost hope. Then I found this little wonder....
The best features of this can opener are:
-Super Easy to turn handle, almost feels like nothing's happening but then pop! the lid is off! I think I gave a little yipe of surprise the first time I used it and my husband thought I'd cut my finger off! No way, I don't think you could cut yourself if you tried using this thing.
-The lid NEVER falls into the can, never again do you have to fish the lid of the can out of the soup or tomatoes, or peaches..
-Super sleek looking, super comfy to hold
-Little metal 'jaws' to pry the lid off the can
-NO SHARP EDGES, nothing to cut holes in your garbage sack, no little fingers getting cuts, it's great.
Do your hands a favor, buy this super easy to use super fabulous can opener. The amazon.com price is a steal for what they sell for in my local stores.

Hi. After years of fighting worthless electric can openers that accomplished less than a hand can opener, I bought one of these can openers. This can opener works so well you don't even think it is doing anything, but then, voila! the entire can top is unsealed smoothly and just lifts off the can! It is simple to operate, and works perfectly everytime I use it! It actually had me looking for excuses to open more cans. lol It is a large size can opener and easily gripped and operated. You can't go wrong with this baby. I plan to buy them as Christmas presents for everyone this year. You'll be happy with one too I bet.

The pros: Great styling, nice feel in the hand, sturdy mechanism.

The cons: Sometimes it loses its grip on a can. I'm not sure why sometimes it will open a can fine and other times it keeps slipping off as the can is cut. This doesn't happen with my other can opener, something I paid similar money for at a grocery store a number of years ago.

This KitchenAid can opener definitely works better than truly cheap can openers, but I agree with the previous reviewer who wrote that there are better can openers at this price point in terms of functionality.

I love this can opener. I have had it for about 8 months now and I never have any problems with it. It cuts so smoothly and I have never had it skip like other reviewers have mentioned. It feels great when you use it. Nice and sturdy product.

This can opener is sturdy, and works like a charm. I purchased 2 (you never know if one might be misplaced). I even gave it to my parents for Christmas. I have had no problem opening anything. It seems pricy for a can opener, but it is worth it.

It did take some time to learn how to use this can opener. It is Hand Held, so you must stay there to finish the opening process. My husband and my son have gone to the old manual can opener - WOW - that's a tough one. They curse me every time they try to use it.
I can flip it out and open nearly 99% of the time, but it does take using it quite often to get the hang of it. Those who open often will probably love it - those who open only a couple times a week will probably curse it.
I like it, but my family thinks I'm nuts because I do!

This is fantastic for those of us that have limited use of our hands. I have no grasp in one hand. I was able to use this with the other hand only. I wanted to buy another one for our RV, but sadly it is discontinued.

I've owned this can opener for over two yrs & use it daily. It's by far the best can opener I've ever used. Wall mount or counter top openers can drop & spill cans with dented or irregular tops even while you support the bottem. I can't stress enough how strong & well built this opener is. It would easily survive a fall from a counter top. It cleans up easily as well with just a damp towel. If something happened to mine, I would definately buy another.
