Heavy-Duty Masher
The Best (Manufacturer's Inc.) 11-inch Masher with Metal Handle is on my essential list of kitchen utensils. This masher is very heavy-duty and large. I boil peeled and quartered large russet potatoes for about 15-20 minutes in either my 5-quart or my 8-quart Calphalon hard-anodized aluminum pot, drain off the water, add some warmed milk, sweet butter, sea salt, white pepper, and then mash them. I like lumpy mashed potatoes, so I mash them for a short time. I use an up-and-down, twisting motion with the masher. If you want creamier mashed potatoes, simply add more warmed milk and mash them longer. Spoon out your mashed potatoes into a serving bowl, and soak the masher with your pot so clean-up will be easy. Highly recommended!

The Best Potato Masher Ever!
After having several other potato mashers fall apart on me during the most inconvienient situations (i.e., while mashing avocados for guacamole), and nearly being impaled in the process, I bought a Rosle. The difference is phenomenal. Rosle's products combine great ergonomic engineering with high-quality stainless construction, and the masher is no exception. Its design allows the cook to combine just the right amount of force more precisely, resulting in effortless and lump-free mashing (no more problems with cranky avocados), and it cleans up easily. I've had mine for over a month, and suspect it will be the last potato masher I'll ever buy -- unless, of course, I need an additional Rosle.

A Smashing Success
Sturdy & strong enoughy to break down any spud. Attractive in that minimalistic brushed steel way to appeal to your sense of taste. On the flip side, 5 inches wide at its base- so this masher requires a big bowl. And last but not least, you should know that this masher is heavy enough to double as a weapon

good product, comfortable grip
This is a good product. I have used it on potatoes (all root veggies actually) as well as things like apples cooked for apple sauce. It is easy to use with a comfy grip.

That said..i still feel like i need a ricer. I think if I had got the ricer first I wouldnt feel the need for a masher so I am thinking probably it would have been a better buy to just get the ricer... storing all this kitchen stuff is always an issue for me.

The company that makes this has consistantly made excellent products (great heat resistant spatulas too) and this is one more. I think this is a great buy if this is all you will need. If you will ultimately need a ricer anyway...consider getting that first and than see if you still need this

This tool is perfection!
Finally, a hybrid between a ricer & the old "wavy-wire" tool your mother used.

This is it.
The design staff at OXO really have it together. One after the other they create winners. This is no exeption. It's sturdily built, has a beautiful finish, and seems to have the perfect size and shape to mash the most potatoes with the least effort. My kind of tool. Besides, it looks great, and that doesn't hurt when it's off duty.

Needed if you have non-stick pans
I love my non-stick pans, but I felt that to properly maintain them I would need the plastic utensils. This is a useful potato masher when I want to mash tomatos while I am cooking, or other stovetop purposes. But, I found that I really need a stainless masher for all the other things I do off the stove (guacomole, baby food)

It is not especially strong, but my biggest problem is that if I leave it on the stove too long, it begins to get soft. It's often a pain thinking about moving all my utensils away from the stove area when I'm cooking.

Even at 8 dollars, if you have to replace it twice a year it's just not cost efficient. It's easier to pick up the cheaper ones at discount stores.

Great Companion
For lazy people like me (or just in a hurry), this potato masher is great because it won't hurt your pan if you leave the potatoes in it to mash. Very sturdy tool. I hope to acquire all of the Calphalon nylon utensils. I don't worry about my pans!

Super masher
I love this potato masher. I rarely use it for potatoes. I use it for mashing berries for jams and as an imprint on biscuit tops just before they go in the oven. It does work well for potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnip and their ilk. It is a great little tool.

Works ok, sturdy, difficult to clean.
This masher looks great, is (so far) sturdy, but is difficult to clean.

Works great!
In true OXO Good-grips style this works great! It is slightly circular so that it can mash all the way around the pan and it didn't destroy the non-stick on my pan when I tried it (somewhat nervously) the other day. My only complaint with it is that it doesn't fit in a normal kitchen drawer.
