Easy to use
I love this pepper mill. It is so easy to use and adjust. With my old mill, I had to find the place I liked for grinding every time I refilled. With this one just fill, screw on the top and adjust the dial to fine, medium or coarse. No fiddling around to find just the right spot. My husband thinks the coarse isn't coarse enough, but I think it is just right. And it grinds pretty quickly, too.

RUST VS WILLIAM BOUNDS
I HAVE HAD A BEAUTIFUL STAINLESS WILLIAM BOUNDS PEPPER/SALT GRINDER FOR AROUND 3 YEARS, AND YES, IT IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS RUST AROUND THE BASE OF THE CYLINDER ON THE STEEL WHERE THE JOIN IS TO THE BASE. I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD OCCUR, AND THE LIFETIME WARRANTY SAYS TO ME THAT IT IS NOT EXPECTED. I WOULD LIKE A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, RUST DOES NOT GO AWAY, IT JUST GROWS. SO PLEASE WILLIE, SOMEONE, HELP.

The Pepper mill I've come to rely on
This is a good, smooth, and very fast pepper mill, that sits next to my oven and is apparently very durable. I use a salt well (a little mortar bowl) filled with kosher salt next to it, with a little wooden spoon to protect my hands from the salt. Together they are in constant use for every meal.

The "fine" setting on this mill isn't particularly fine, but it is a good setting and the one I use unless I'm specifically going for a coarse cracked pepper coating e.g. on a roast.

I fill it with Tellicherries bought in bulk from the SF Herb Company here in San Francisco.

I give this my recommendation (i.e. the best solution on the market) although I can imagine a couple of improvements.

For one, the grip on the handle could have a rotating cylinder around it, found on some of these mills. That way, it doesn't rub your skin; it moves with your skin. But that isn't much of a problem with this design (the grip is slick enough) and there are potential problems with that moving part too.

There could be a finer setting and the thing could be easier to fill perhaps, and the top sometimes starts to unscrew itself. None of these are major problems; as I said I can't find a better mill overall on the market and I've tried plenty.

Fun to read the inventor's testimonial on the box; he clearly faced the problem we all do and my hat's off to him for solving it.

How to Clean
I have a Chef'n Pepper Ball, and am so pleased with it that I gave several of them for Christmas gifts. Everyone has told me now much they enjoy using it.
However, one of the recipients accidently dropped his in his bowl of soup, and asked me to find out how to clean it. Is it possible to take it apart to clean?.

please pass the pepper ball
One-handed freshly ground pepper--what could be better? The grind is easily adjustable, the sliding slot makes for easy refills, and the pepper ball is stylish to boot! One suggestion for the softer green peppercorns: mix a few of the harder black corns in with the green for more efficient and productive grinding (give the grinder something to latch onto)....

Would you like Pepper?
Besides being a sleek addition to the spice rack, the Chef'n salt-n-pepper ball jr. are handy little tools in the kitchen and beyond. Pepper oils diminish after 20 to 30 minutes after being ground, so it makes since to grind fresh pepper when cooking or dining. The pepper ball makes it easy to stir with one hand and grind specialty peppers into the mix with the other. What a great gift idea for a friend who loves to cook or for those that love to eat. They can easily slip into a lunchbox, picnic basket, or travel bag. I personally love using this little gem because of the easy grip and grind technique. Check it out for yourself.

Great Peppermill
This has to be the best little Peppermill I have ever used. The price on Amazon is much better than those I have seen in discount stores also. Still waiting for the matching salt mill to come in so I can get it too.

Just Right for the Table
This peppermill is just the right size to keep on the table. It isn't so tall that it will get knocked over.

Because of its smooth sides and no hand grips it can be hard to use if your hands are wet, or if you have trouble gripping small items, but other than that the operation is very easy. The construction is sturdy. The pepper is ground very nicely.

This makes a nice set when combined with the Coin saltmill.

Grind your own salt for a definite improvement in flavor!
You will also need less salt when you grind your own!

If you haven't yet experienced the flavor of Fleur de Sel, you owe it to yourself to at least try it once. I can almost guarantee that once you do, you won't be satisfied with regular table salt. There is a salt called: Fleur de Sel de l'Jle de Re from France which is my favorite salt. It can be ordered through Zingerman's Delicatessen in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Fleur de Sel is often described as the Flower of the ocean. The large, light salt crystals float in large sheets on the surface of the water. It is then gently lifted off the water with a hand tool and placed in baskets to dry in the sun. July and August are the main months for harvesting when the wind is blowing in the right direction.

You can also grind salt in a mortar and pestle or use this grinder which has a variable grind option. You really have to grind the salt unless you are tossing it into a soup or mixing it into a batter. Then it will just dissolve nicely.

For table use, you will enjoy grinding salt onto your food. I use one of these daily it seems. More at the table than in the kitchen. I use my mortar and pestle in the kitchen. This is a must-have item for the serious cook! You will wonder how you could have missed this taste....I myself only found out about it a few years ago. No wonder everything in France just tastes better!

Perfex Peppermill
Just decided to pop 'Perfex' into the Amazon search engine on a whim, and was very pleasantly surprised to see it pop up. I've been using my trusty Perfex for years (bought it in Boston, actually), and have given many away as presents to friends, who are always delighted with them. Lightyears past the various Peugeots, advantage no. 1 over all others is the easy loading (and changing) of pepper(s), independent of the very precise adjustment of the grind. Only caveat is that with time (like 20 years!), the spring weakens a little and you might have to adjust the nut somewhat more often. But they last forever and work...simply. A real kitchen 'tool' that also looks good on any table.

great hand mill
flawless operation; no worries here.

Peugeot makes the best mills out there...
Peugeot mills are pretty much the best mills out
there. Whenever I go to a fancy restaurant I check
the manufacturere on the mill, just to see if they
are serious about their business...;-)

Grinds like a charm, rock solid and will last a very,
very long time! Come in all sizes, seen them up to
20 inch...

Worth every penny

very nice
This pepper mill is just about perfect in size with a grinder that is about as perfect as I've seen. The picture is a bit misleading, as it is not as brown as it looks in the picture. It actually has a washed out, milky brownish look to it.

Awesome....
I am addicted to pepper, I love it on everything. Recently I bought a pepper ball and it was okay. Well, that was until I went to my Grandmas and used her OXO grinder. This thing is amazing! I love my pepper ground very fine and this does it with ease. With one turn I have the same amount that the pepepr ball would give me in 20... This is better than expensive grinders and at a fraction of the price. Also, Amazon has this set for the cheapest anywhere else. I looked around and you will not be able to find it any cheaper, but even if it was triple the price, it is still worth more.

This is the best so forget the rest.
This happens to be the best pepper grinder I have ever used.
You can easily crank out freshly ground pepper and it sure beats them other pepper mills that use a twisting motion. Alot easier to fill with peppercorns, and you can quickly see how much is inside since it has a clear plastic window. The bottom has a snap on plastic lid to help keep from getting pepper on the counter or table after using. It is adjustable & comes with a great salt shaker for diferent types of salt from fine to kosher salt, & a closed & pour setting. These would also make an ideal set for a camper or a mobile home. Highly recommended for all kitchens!

Great set
I ordered this set for someone for Christmas and decided to get them for myself as well. I'm so glad I did. The pepper mill is so easy to use, grinds the pepper well and has a nice cover on the bottom to prevent those little pepper trails on the table. The salt shaker is good because it has 3 different size openings and can also be closed to prevent salt from hardening in the humid weather. Great set for the price. I'm a new OXO fan.

Excellent product but pricey
I have three of these that I picked up in Germany last year, where they're only slightly cheaper at about 15 Euro apiece.

The ceramic mechanism makes for a very adjustable, very consistent grind and you never have to worry about the burrs rusting. One tip for anyone wanting to change spices is to grind some rock salt through the mechanism. That seems to do a pretty good job of cleaning out residue. However, I'd caution against trying to use the same grinder both for normal spices/herbs and wildly aromatic or spicy things like dried chilis--you'll be hard-pressed to get the strong smell out 100%.

However, I have to knock a star from the WMF version due to some excellent competition from IKEA. They sell a ceramic spice mill for less than half the price which appears to have an almost identical ceramic mechanism. Better yet, IKEA sells a cheap 3-pack of glass spice jars that are identical twins to the one that comes with their ceramic spice mill, letting you easily remove the grinding mechanism and screw it onto your different spice jars as needed.

Best Spice Mill
I really like this spice mill. I bought it to use for a variety of Indian spices, but have used it exclusively for pepper. I don't often measure pepper, but the cover comes in handy for that purpose; just grind with the cover on, then measure what falls into it. I have another similar spice grinder which was less expensive. It doesn't work as well, but I discovered that McCormick spice jars fit it. When I checked the WMF for a similar fit I was disappointed, just a little too large.

Can't have enough of them
I bought my first ceramic spice mill in Germany 5 years ago. I now have a small collection of these handy grinders. They are completely adjustable from a very fine grind to extremely coarse, no matter the spice you have in it.

I highly recommend these mills to any cook and for nearly any spice. I have a bunch for various salts and justa as many for my peppercorns. I also use them for grinding dried chilis, herbs, etc...

Bogus lifetime warranty
This is a good product and I would have given it a five had it not been for the bogus lifetime warranty. My grinder broke after about 8 years of service and when I sent it back with the card that was enclosed with the mill for that purpose it came back as "moved".

Mr. Dudley
I love the salt mill, but in trying to remove the top to refill, the top broke. Since it has a lifetime guarantee and I still had the box and paper that came with it, I sent it to the address on the box and it was returned, "delivery attempted". Now I have a guaranteed salt mill that is broken and I cannot return it. I really love the product, though, unbroken.

Nicer than expected...
The Mr. Dudley Cardan Saltmill looks a little better in person than in pictures. The acrylic body has a nice shine and looks more like glass than I thought it would. The saltmill also has a pleasant heft when filled. The fact that it arrived filled was a nice touch.

I can't speak to the long-term durability of the nylon grinding mechanism, but the lifetime guarantee is reassuring. It grinds salt well, and with little effort on most settings. The finest setting is a little balky, but that's probably to be expected.

There are two small screws visible through the saltmill's clear body. They're at the bottom and apparently serve to hold the grinding mechanism in place. They're well-hidden, but they do detract slightly from the saltmill's aesthetics.

All-in-all, the saltmill is a great value. I didn't order the matching peppermill, but the saltmill has convinced me to reconsider.

Love the salt and pepper set
This salt and pepper shaker are great and they look pretty too. The only complaint that I have is that my salt shaker tends to jamm up and quit dispensing salt quite quickly. I end up having to clean it quite often. But I still love the set.

    Great!
I really liked the shape and color. When I got them home, I was surprised that they worked so well. Very clean looking.

Best pepper mill set I ever bought!
This is a great set, and I would recommend it highly. It grinds very well, and the set looks good too.
