Amco Stainless-Steel and Nylon Locking Tongs
Don't know how I managed without it[1] It's THE SAFEST utensil that this older, rather unsteady, & quite short woman has found so far to handle ANY hot foods cooking on any flat surface. -- Just for one example : I oven-char many veggies before using in a recipe : eggplant, tomatoes, garlic, onions, etc. The idea is to blacken & blister the veggies' skin all over under the oven broiler, so it then comes off very easily after a brief icewater bath. -- For me, it's better if I can rotate the veggies while they're still under the broiler, rather than having to pull the broiler pan in & out to do it. Well, before I tried these tongs it was always either my oven mitt or ME, not the veggies, which got the most charring-blackening-blistering during the rotating process!
[2] In answer to a previous reviewer's difficulty using the tongs with regular metal (not nonstick) pans: We have sets of both types of pans. These tongs WILL work perfectly with regular metal pans IF you apply a very light spray or coating of some sort on the pan. -- Our choice is always a good-quality olive oil [the Misto sprayer sold here at Amazon does a fantastic & quick job of delivering a truly LIGHT coating of any oil]. However, a very small amount of any cooking oil or even butter, spread around with a paper towel as the metal pan is just beginning to warm, will also do the trick. -- Let's face it, nothing but a heavy hand with a heavy spatula is gonna pry a pork chop off a metal surface on or under high heat!
[3] This and especially its shorter companions (which were also available at one time here at Amazon too, not sure if they still are) make very good-looking & easy-to-use SERVING utensils AT THE TABLE, for various kinds of salads, for bread or rolls, for chops or small steaks, in fact for just about anything that's not 'liquidy'. -- The locking feature helps them take up much less room in or atop a serving dish or actually on the table than one would think. -- AND, if you want spoon-rests or "TONG-RESTS" for the business end of these things : Try a pretty set of those shallow long/narrow corn-on-the-cob serving dishes! They work perfectly for either tabletop or stovetop.

Good but, ....
A kitchen essential
These are greatThey are great for Bacon, Chicken breasts, fryed potatoes, sting beans, grilled cheese sandwich etc.
You can't pick up a large Prime Rib with these, DUH!!
But find me a better Tong for bacon etc.?
Even my metal ones do not work this good..
Since I have Calphalon commercial nonstick, of course I use the nonstick type now.
I see that Amazon doesnt sell these anymore, but bed Bath & Beyond does.
I just bought this for my Daughter, who is the worlds worst cook, hates to cook, and truthfully doesnt cook very often..She really thinks that every Meal should be Catered or everyone should have a live in Chef (not a bad idea, Oprah does) lol!!..If they work for her, then they should work great for anyone...
If they break, I would take them back!
I don't put these or anytype of nonstick in the dishwasher.

Read the fine print! This is not a regular sized ice bucket, however it will hold enough ice for a small gathering. It looks nice too.
quite small
The Ice Bucket Cometh or a Penny Saved is a Penny Earned.I am a minimalist by nature so I like to keep my material possessions very utilitarian.
I use this ice bucket as a motorcycle helmet, mirror, ice-cream bowl, waste basket, minnow bucket for fishing, spittoon, salad bowl, porta-potty for camping or when I'm just to lazy to go down stairs, a fruit basket, garbage can, etc. You get the idea. It's well built and multi-functional. The tongs also have varied uses from a salad server to fishing my wallet out of the toilet.
By this, be creative and save money.

good for udon and ravioli, not so great for angelhairThe tongs look cheap, but work really well for dumplings and other big floating stuff, and for thick pasta. Thin pasta, however, tends to fall through the prongs (which touch at their tips, not interlace). If you hold the tongs more firmly so small stuff doesn't fall through, it gets crushed - the ends are slightly concave, but too shallow to really make a pouch.
This would be perfect if the prongs were square-ended, and the wide solid part of the ends was more deeply concave. As it is, it depends on what you're cooking.

AWFUL!
DO NOT BUY
Good for SomeHowever, this is a good set to get if you're on a tight budget, and an absolutely ideal set for first apartments. My husband and I bought this for our first apartment and it's gotten us through the past two years. Now we're moving and most of what's left of the set isn't worth taking with us, so we'll be tossing it. Which is okay by us - less to pack!
This time, though, we will buy things that are more likely to last. Again - not a bad deal for those just starting out and/or those on a tight budget. But you do get what you pay for.

They do not grip well at all: the "gripping" parts shift when you try to grip something. They also have really sharp edges on all the stainless steel parts. I expected a better quality from the Amco brand. BTW, the locking mechanism works just the opposite than most other "regular" tongs I have used + the mechanism also unexpectedly disengages by itself...
