I ordered the Farberware 2 quart saucepan with double boiler to complete a starter set of Farberware Millenium cookware. I almost didn't order the double boiler because of the possibility of a mismatch. I am glad I ordered the classic pan. It has the same outer shape as the Millenium set. It is more square than round on the bottom, although the featured picture makes the classic pan look more round. A square piece connects the handle to the pan and it adds a nice touch to the design. The 18/10 stainless steel helps make the match. I am glad I ordered (and opened) the "classic piece" to add to my Millenium set. Every millenium needs a touch of the old to mark the changes in the new! Bye the way, the Farberware is a virtual steal both for the quality and appeal.

This is good old Farberware quality. Sturdy with a heat distributing bottom. The fit of the two parts is excellent. I see no reason why this won't last for years.

This product is excellent when used wiht the matching 4 1/2 quart sauce pot. It conducts heat extremely well and my chocolate chips melted much faster than with other double boilers.

Just got this with the 2-3/4 qt. sauce pan last week and used it for the first time today to melt some chocolate. Really did a great job of even heating and melting. We have several pieces from the Cuisinart MultiClad line and they are all 1st rate.

As a child my Mother had this one pot that was always in use, it stayed so shiny, nothing ever burned in it. As I grew and learned to cook, I had this pot in constant use, in fact I would fight my siblings for the use of this 'cooker's dream utensil'. Mom only had one, no other pot in her kitchen could make a receipe taste as well as this. Not unitl many years later was I to learn, this was a free promotional gift, that has been more than 40 years ago. That pot today, looks as if it was just removed from the box. I have since purchased the complete set of Revereware for my Mother, and not without motive, me(I live & care for my Mother). Since I love desserts, I use it constantly the double boiler is the greatest! It makes my sweets, oooohhhhh,so even sweeter. I can't help looking for things to cook-up just so I can use it. I am so impressed with this product, I have purchased two more for holiday gifts. This is a cooker's must!

I have a Farberware clad stainless 4 quart pan made in Italy. It is a beauty. I was expecting similar quality with the stainless copper clad. It was light weight. The core did not go up the side of the pan. I was dissapointed to say the least.

I purchased this double boiler several months ago and it has become one of my favorite cooking tools. Aside from being beautiful, and a very nice double boiler, it is the perfect size to use just as a saucepan. It has a nice weight - not too heavy, but substantial. The copper bottom cleans up in no time using Barkeepers Friend. The little fleur de lis design on the handle is a charming touch, too. The rivets holding the handle on are more than adequate. All in all I truly love it! I can't find a thing about it that I don't like. I would recommend it if you are in need of a nice sized double boiler.

The wife is beside herself...even cooking, easy clean up, beautiful appearance...what else can I say...Excellent Product!!!

Does not fit Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized Collector's Edition 2 1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with Lid

Because I acquired much of my Calphalon cookware collection more than five years ago, I have pasta, steamer, and double boiler inserts that were made from the same hard-anodized aluminum alloy as their pots and pans. Since Calphalon now manufactures these accessories using 18/10 stainless steel, I've begun upgrading my collection. This beautiful 2-quart polished stainless steel double boiler insert is very heavy duty, has a lifetime guarantee, and it fits perfectly into my 2.5-quart Calphalon sauce pan. I place the insert in the sauce pan, which is partially filled with simmering water, to melt Callebaut chocolate for candy-making. I also use it when making Hollandaise, Béarnaise, and Béchamel sauces; and for making custard, pudding, and chocolate mousse. Calphalon also makes a 4-quart stainless steel double boiler insert that works well with their 4.5-quart sauce pan for making larger amounts of sauce or dessert recipes. I hand wash and dry this insert to keep it looking like new. I like the double handles on these Calphalon inserts much better than the one long handle on some other double boiler inserts. Someday I hope to buy a Mauviel French copper and porcelain bain-marie, but until then, I'll be very happy with this one.

This is a very useful accessory to your All-Clad set, however, it is rather poorly finished compared to the other pieces (mine has some burrs and rough edges on the bottom surface). This piece is made in China and it is my opinion that All-Clad's Chinese-made pieces are inferior to the US-made ones (I own several of each and have compared many others in stores).

Also, as with the Steamer Insert, there is some "slop" in the fit between the insert and the 3 or 4 quart sauce pan.

As one of the other reviews state, the lip that allows the pan to sit on top of the 3- or 4-quart pot creates a recess inside the pan that makes it hard to get whatever you're working on out of the pan, as it gets caught in the recess. The interior should have completely straight sides. Otherwise, it does what it's supposed to.

This is a wonderful double boiler insert with one minor exception. The ring that keeps it from falling into the pan with the water in it catches the food/sauce and therefore is harder to clean and mix. Now having said that, I still love this pan, I just wish the inside was totally smooth. I use it to make chocolate candies/truffles and the stuff melts up perfectly. Controlling the temperature is key when melting chocolate and with stainless steel its easy. I really should own two of these pans but kitchen space is limited.

(fits the non loop 3/4 qt sauce pans perfectly, The 4qt sauce pan with loop it doesn't seat well, as the loop lifts the edge allowing steam to escape.)

This is supposed to be a universal double boiler, but it's hard to use because it fits no pan well -- making it hard to stir, and giving you a limited "surface area" for use. Also, due to it's curved bottom, it won't stand up on its own if you remove it from the "boiling" pan (to set beside you as you mold candy, etc.)

For years, I used make-shift pots and pans to double-boil thinking that it isn't worth investing in yet another item that isn't used often but takes up precious kitchen space. My method was clumsy and the process was more like steaming that double-boiling. Since I had different quantities to cook, it was tough to find a double boiler that would fit my different needs and I didn't want to buy several double-boilers.

Then I came across this nice little item and thought that for this price, I couldn't go wrong. Well, I was right for once.

This insert is so practical and beyond versatile!
It holds a variety of things in varying volumes while sitting sturdily in a host of pots. The dome shape allows you to whip up even a small amount of sauce without the ingredients being "lost" as a thin layer on the bottom of a big pot. It cuts down the double-boiling process by more than two-fold. The nice little measurement guidelines help ensure that you are using the right quantity. It is non-stick and cleans without having to scrub. Plus, it hardly takes up any space since it nests nicely in existing pots for storage.

I no longer take a long time and make a mess out of double-boiling. Hollandaise sauces, souffles and fondues are now a cinch to make. I like this so much that I'm picking another one up for a friend. Do your recipes a favor and get this too. You'll earn praises for your culinary speed.

I bought the Krona 1 1/2 quart double boiler because I needed a double boiler and I needed a small pot. Unfortunately this purchase was a big disappointment. While the bottom has the 18/10 stainless steel construction, the first food I prepared in it left its mark and I have not been able to remove them. (No, I did not burn the food nor cook on too high a heat). That aside, I can live with the bottom pot. The top one however, the double boiler part, is thin/very light and cheap feeling. Plus the pot has a conical shaped bottom which means you can't sit it down. How useless! If I had known, these latter two features would have been enough for me to have passed on this double boiler.
