Simply the best...
From the kitchen to the dining room tableIn addition, this teapot as all the advantages that a dedicated electric kettle has over a stovetop model: auto-shutoff (start it, jump in the shower, hot water is waiting when you get out), generally faster to boil water, and it doesn't occupy a burner nor get covered in grease splatters. The downside is that it's yet another appliance taking up counter space.
So there are a few complaints: the Krups teakettle has a wide base so it does take up more of your counter than other models. We originally bought it for heating water upstairs, but found it far to big for our small bathroom. Other problems I have are that the handle is directly over the main opening making it somewhat awkward to open the lid and fill the pot. As another reviewer pointed out, the water level indicator is only good for full/empty measurements. I generally lift the kettle to see if I need to add water. I would like some audible sound when it finishes boiling. I've gotten so used to the start-it-and-leave-it that I often come back 20 minutes later having totally forgotten I was making tea.
Anyhow, the problems I have with this teapot are mostly trivial and are so far outweighed by the advantages that I give it 5 stars and recommend it highly. It's a great gift for the tea-lover in your family.
Easy and attractiveI only have two problems with this kettle. It is a little bit noisy so don't be alarmed at the boiling sounds. The gauge that shows how full the kettle is is hard to read when the kettle is held at an angle, such as when you would be filling it under the tap.
Other than these minor problems, I am enjoying this kettle greatly and, short of a power outage, I can't see myself going back!

**A Stunning Addition To Any Kitchen**I fell head over heels for the rich deep red color (Berry Red model), and hoped it would stand up to all the normal requirements of a stove-top kettle - and it certainly does. What's great about this kettle?:
- Pleasing to the eye~ If you like the your color choice on sceen, just wait till it arrives home. The enamel finish is deep & high lustre in color. The shiney s.s. handle & spout w/ black grips just offsets the color even more to make this kettle a gem on your stove top.
- Form covered- here's function too ~ like the other reviewer stated - its all you want in a teakettle-
**The whistle is pleasant; loud enough to hear a few rooms away but not ear-piercing like others reviewed for other kettles.
**The lid, thank the teakettle gods, does not come off when pouring, so steam doesn't leak out with the lid on, or come streaming out to burn your hand in the middle of pouring because the lid fell off, which is what happened to me with my old kettle. (A fancy [price] S.S model w/blue handle & red bird whistle)
It sits securely in its base for the tilt time, yet opens easily for clean-up. Plus its a pretty contrast in the stainless, against the enamel body.
**The pour spout has a S.S. lever w/a little black handle pull, which pulls back easily for pouring, & if filling many cups, stays in the open-back position. - This does mean you must push it shut when done. If pulled back slightly, it does gently close on its own.
- Any Negatives: Not really because the ones I'd list, are now common to most kettles, but they are:
** A potholder should be used to pick up the just boiled kettle, however I've read in other model reviews that claim a "stay cool" handle that isn't realistic for them either, so I don't expect that to be the case with any kettle anyway.
** In the instructions, like w/all the other kettle reviews I've read - it suggests wiping it dry after use to avoid rust, but I think the instructions were written for several models, including S.S. kettles which are usually the ones they warn might rust, so I don't believe it applies to this one w/a black enamel inside coating anyway, but I didn't want anyone surprised by that note.
**Overall if you want a functional kettle with a beautiful jewel-tone finish, then this one will do the job as well as any other model but with this one you just might want to sit and watch the water boil!

Great kettle!
we've retired our stovetop teakettleI also find when I'm cooking spaghetti that it's a lot faster to boil water in this teakettle and then transfer the water to the cooking pot. The kettle is easy to fill and clean, and it lifts smoothly off the base. The exterior stays nice and cool. My husband was leery about the cost compared with a regular teakettle, but after a couple of weeks of using it he says it was worth every penny. This would make a wonderful wedding or housewarming gift. People who have been using a traditional teakettle and want to make great coffee or tea at home will find this an excellent buy.

- Boils and dechlorinates 3 quarts of water, keeps it hot or warm
- Keeps water at 203 degrees for coffee or tea or 140 degrees for baby formula
- 9 inches wide by 10-1/2 inches high by 11-1/4 inches deep
- Decalcify with citric acid or descaling cleaner every one to three months
- One-year warranty against defects

A wonderful little applianceTo pour hot water from this dispenser, just hold a cup under the spout and press a button. Oddly, American and European hot-water dispensers follow the kettle metaphor a little too closely. They design their dispensers so that you must pick up the entire device to pour water.
The only drawback to this Japanese-style dispenser is that you can't pour hot water without plugging it in. The assumption is that you always leave it on, like any other small appliance.
I find this unit surprisingly convenient for things like tea, noodles, and instant coffee. It's also a lifesaver if you have to mix baby formula at three in the morning.
For safety, you have to press "unlock" to enable the dispense button. Also, the power cord is held in place by a strong magnet, so that the appliance will safely come unplugged if it is abruptly moved by an earthquake or other natural disaster.
The manual is multilingual. The English-language section is poorly written and typeset, and obviously translated in Japan. On the other hand, the appliance is so simple that you really don't need a manual.
Overall, the Zojirushi CD-DEC30 is small, sturdy, convenient, and very easy to use. If you don't mind the high price, I strongly recommend it.
Can't live without it!It's wonderful when my baby granddaughter is visiting. I can make her formula immediately or just warm a bottle right in the hot water. It has two temperature settings. Also great for sterilizing something immdiately without having to boil water.
Couldn't Leave Home Without It

Very nice design
Wonderfully made, adds to tea time enjoyment
Best teapot I've ever ownedSomeone mentioned that it didn't make 32 ounces. Well, I never actually measured it but it's not really an issue for me because I only pour in enough water to make enough tea for my 20 ounce mug (which I've worked out to pouring the water just to the bottom edge of the "Bodum" logo on the glass). Unless you're planning on making more than four 8oz cups of tea at a time, you shouldn't have any problems with the capacity of this teapot. If you plan on making more than that, you should look for a larger teapot!
The strainer works quite well and keeps in most of tea. A little bit of the "dust" makes it through, but it settles to the bottom and won't get into your cup if you pour slowly and steadily. The strainer is designed quite well, It's basically a half-dome basket with a metal rod/handle across the top to make it easy to pick up. It's very easy to scoop the tea out after you're done with it. I had no problems pouring tea out with the strainer inside, it works just as well as when the strainer is removed. Since the "spout" doesn't protrude that much, it works best to pour slowly. I usually just lift the lid a bit before pouring. They probably could have extended the spout just a little bit more for better pouring, but that would probably detract from the aesthetics.
The teapot and strainer are easy to clean with a quick rinse.
And it looks nice sitting on the kitchen countertop.
UPDATE: After using this for a while, I have noticed a tendency for rusting if I don't wipe the outside dry after washing. It's because the glass sits inside the metal frame outside, and water can get stuck between the glass and metal. I don't have rust on mine because I make sure to wipe it after every wash, or leave it upsidedown. It might become a problem if you leave it right-side-up after washing because the water will drip onto the metal frame. Despite this, I'm still pretty happy with the teapot. A little care during washing will keep it lasting a long time.
