Works Well, Cheap, Easy to Clean
I've had mine for a while and use them frequently in the kitchen. Handles heavy work such as cutting up raw chickens. Is generally comforable to use. Separate pieces and throw them in the dishwasher to clean. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the bottle opener and screwdriver are an unneeded add on, that sometimes get in the way.

great gift for people who have almost everything & cook
Especially for people who cook alot (live to eat, rather than eat to live), these scissors are a fantastic gift. I have given at least a dozen pairs as wedding or house-warming gifts. I have had mine for eight years & they are still razor-sharp. I reach for them a dozen times each day. These would be a welcome gift for a valued staff member or an appreciated teacher, as the holidays approach. I couldn't live without mine.

Utility Scissors
These scissors are easy to clean. We have used them as a screwdriver, a bottle opener, wire cutters, and of course scissors. I highly recommend a pair of utility scissors for any kitchen. These come apart for easy cleaning, this is a great feature because it gives you an opportunity to dry the scissors very well and eliminate any bacteria growth or rusting.

Incredibly Sharp and long-lasting edge but BEWARE on steel..
Cuts like a Samurai blade quality, and doesn't need to steel as frequent as the Henckels/ Wusthof knives. It has excellent weight for a medium sized hand. However, the handles get quite slippery when wet, so keep your hands clean and dry while using this knife for safety. Also, if you plan on saving money on getting a cheaper steel, DON'T, because this Global blade is much harder than the Henckels/Wusthof blades; a qood quality Diamond coated or ceramic steel is a must, or if you really like the steel design, get the Global steel which can cost quite a bit. Overall, this is a good quality knife with proper care and attention needed, just like a Samurai would do to get use to his sword.

Worth every penny
I bought this knife almost three months ago, and have been nothing but impressed. I am a professional chef and have used this blade almost non-stop since its arrival. Despite daily use and infrequent passes on a global ceramic steel, it still remains near razor sharp. The feel, the balance, the way the blade will hold an edge, everything about this knife is amazing. It has quickly grown to be my favorite knife, surpassing even my ceramic knife which cost me three times as much and hasn't held up nearly as well. Only complaint I have is because of its heavy weight, delicate cutting such as basil julienne (which I do frequently) are exceptionally difficult without bruising the herbs. Its possible to do the job with the knife, but not really what it was designed for either in my opinion. Every knife has its purpose, this is the best general purpose knife ive ever used.

steps ahead of the rest
If God's mighty Hands are big enough, He definitely uses the 8 1/4" heavyweight Global. If not He wields a mighty regular 8".

These knives appear at first like Pacific Palisades yuppie display pieces, purchased to never be used, highly crafted but without mind towards function. Nothing could be further from the truth, however; these knives mean business. Built with Japan's modern chefs in mind, they have the balance of a Katana, highest quality steel and a wicked edge. They're suitable in construction and balance for everything from sashimi to butchery.

This heavy knife (Global actually refers to the heavier knives as "forged", probably because their lighter knives have ground hollow handles) can deftly mince shallots or rip apart a chicken in the same breath. The balance is so perfect that it really feels like nothing at all in your hand.

Care and feeding are trickier than a Henckels or a carbon-steel knife; the molybenum/vandium alloy is extremely hard and hard to influence outside of a full grind. I'm using a ceramic finishing stone to hone the edge (which does slip around; a downside of the extremely acute angle of grind), and I expect that I'll have a professional grind it when needed, something I don't do with my Henckels knives.

I'm buying the lighter 8" knife as well, now that I've had my hands on it. I really think that between the two of them there's nothing you can't take down.

Great knife with slippery handle, Beware on steeling it
Cuts like a Samurai blade quality, and doesn't need to steel as frequent as the Henckels/ Wusthof knives. It has excellent weight for a medium sized hand. Favorite kitchen knife
I use this knife more than any other in my kitchen. It holds an edge and it's light and balanced. Money well spent.

An excellent knife
This light-weight and stunningly sharp knife is outstanding. As other reviewers of Global knives noted, the exceptionally acute angle of the edge makes them effective at cutting.

The size and balance of this knife are well suited to working with most vegetables, fruit etc. Cuts such as brunoise become much easier to accomplish using this knife.

As a first time user of a Global knife, it took me a few minutes to get used to how light it is. But once I got the feel of it, it became a real favorite.

Take the advice about care and sharpening this knife seriously. You can't just hone it on an average steel. Use the right stone and ceramic steel and you'll avoid ruining the edge.

Great knifes, almost impossible to sharpen
(I say this with regret as I love the handle and balance of my Henkels chef knife). Henckels knifes are indestructable and I my experience (and I have heard this confirmed by a professional chef and cooking instructor) is that they are near impossible to sharpen. For many people this may not mean a lot, but a good knife should be able to have that remarkable edge for years (not just the first 3 mos). A professional may be able to sharpen these but not as well as other knives (e.g., Chicago Cutlery and others) -- no second honeymoons with these.

Henckel Quality and Versatility
I love all my Henckel knives, but this one is definitely the most versatile. It's 5" length and super sharp serrated blade make it ideal for vegetables as well as meats and smaller bread loaves. If you're not going to buy an entire set of quality knives, you really should have this one amongst the few you choose.

Outstanding Vegetable Knife
We have several top quality knives of different types but this relatively affordable serated knife is our first choice for chopping or slicing any sort of vegetables. My wife especially likes the feel of the handle and overall balance.

    Great knife set
I didn't realize just how much my Farberware knives ... until I used these. They feel firm in your hand but not too heavy. It's only getting 4 stars because it's not washable, and because I feel the block takes up too much space. To accomodate the length of the sharpening steel, the block is actually very long and juts out. The extra slots were great, as I was able to add my own bread knife and carving set.

Good knives from a great name in cutlery
This was my first set of nice knives. They are excellent for the price. They could potentially be the last set of knives you own, due to the high quality of material used and Henckels outstanding reputation for excellent cutlery (professional chefs know the Henckel name). However, they are the "low" end of the Henckels line. I have since added several knives from their Pro S line. More serious cooks may want to skip the Gourmet line and spend the extra money on a set from the Pro S (or higher) line. Otherwise, like I did, you will find yourself spending more money buying the nicer knives "open stock".

AN EXCELLENT KNIFE SET FOR THE MONEY
I AM AN AVERAGE COOK, AND THIS HENCKEL'S KNIFE SET IS JUST EXCELLENT. I CONSIDER MYSELF FORTUNATE TO HAVE BOUGHT GERMAN-MADE CUTLERY AT SUCH A GREAT PRICE. THESE KNIVES ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THE TYPICAL DEPARTMENT STORE KNIFE SETS. THEY ARE MADE OF THE BEST STEEL AND HOLD A SHARP EDGE MUCH LONGER. SO I RECOMMEND THAT YOU PAY A LITTLE MORE, AND GET A KNIFE SET THAT YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH FOR A LIFETIME.

    Just OK
I love Henckel knives, and I expect a lot out of them.

I paid 80$ for this set and I was dissapointed. The blade is a little thin. The handle is a bit small. The finish on the blade was a little rough.

These knives are manufactured in Spain, not in Germany and it shows. For 80$ you can find better knives than these.

    Excellent quality
These knives are excellent quality. The blade molded up into and through the handle gives it a very sturdy cutting action. There's no flexing this blade when your cutting at an angle. This is a wonderful item and matchs our Pro S knives very well. We bought a dozen of them so we usually have enough to go around. I know they should last a lifetime because they are such good quality and I like them so much.

    Well worth the price!
Most importantly, you can buy 2 sets (8 knives) for less than the cost of one set of the Pro S (1 knife). Although the steel used to make these does not seem to hold an edge as long as the Pro S series, they do take an edge nicely. I have a larger block full of Pro S knives, and these look nearly identical, with full tang and bolster. Personally, I feel more comfortable letting guests use knives in this price range.

    1st problem ever encountered with a Pro-S
I bought the 7pc. Pro-S block set. This knife was included in that set. As I was admiring my new tools I was utterly suprised to see what looked like a stain at the bolster of this knife. As I looked closer it was actually a small section of pitted steel. As I was looking at this moderately small spot I noticed a pitted crack approximately 1/2 inch in length extending from that spot down toward the point. At the point another pitted area covering approximately 1/8-1/6 of an inche from the tip down the scalloped side of the blade.

Don't get me wrong the Henckels Pro-S is still the best knife you could buy, but I was astounded that quality control missed this defective blade. I thought I would never have to make use of the lifetime warranty (especially 3 days after buying a set). But hopefully the exchange will go just as smooth as these excellent knife cut though food.

    Best Knife Ever!
This is the perfect knife. I have many, many other knives of various brands including Cutco, and I always find myself reaching for this one. Well worth the price! I always throw mine in the dishwasher and after several years, still no sign of rust.

    The Perfect Knife
The Professional S series has been a blessing in our family in the two years since it replaced a set of those cheapo "Never-needs-sharpening" knives.

And the most used knife in the lot is this one, the 5-inch serrated knife. Whether you are slicing a few vegetables, peeling a fruit, or want an ultra-deluxe steak knife of the gods, this is the one.

The Professional S design is a classic that will hold up well over the years.

    Perfection!
I'm picky! When I cook, nothing but the best will do. This is the best! Visitors to my kitchen are amazed at the size of this knife; until, I get it in their hands. It's balance is the best I've ever experienced. It is a joy! A must have for any cook.

Great knife, but probably not for casual cooks
Great knife. I own stainless sets of Pro-S, Grand Prix and Grand Chef. My favorite for the road is Grand Prix, because the knives are light, but my favorite set for everyday use at home is the Pro-S. This particular knife is as big as anyone could want for use in a kitchen. Great feel, balance and "rock," assuming you like the "shove-forward" type of chopping. Use a good steel, like the F. Dick, to keep it sharp, and this knife will last for 3-4 generations.

    5 star knife
the previous poster meant to give it 5 stars, and this excellent knife (the best available, according to folks at Williams-Sonoma) deserves a 5

Works better than rollers at a good price
Cutting pizza works best when you can quickly apply a lot of overhead leverage to cut through the crust so that cheese and topping don't have much chance to stick to the knife before lifting it to make the next cut.

The problem with a rolling cutter is that it's difficult to quickly and evenly apply much pressure with one hand as it rolls over the uneven, steaming hot sticky cheese and toppings. After the first rotation of the disk, you'll often end up with more cheese stuck on the cutter than left on the pizza, making it even more difficult to cut all the way through the crust.

There are a few minor problems with this rocker knife, though. It's too small to cut the entire diameter of a larger pizza in a single cut, so it's a bit more work than it could be for 12 inch and larger pies. The handles don't lend themselves to applying as much force as I'd like because the blade could flip on its side while cutting without reserving some effort to prevent it from doing so. The knife can't hang from an overhead rack unless I drill a hole in it myself. But these minor gripes wouldn't force me to go back to using a rolling cutter. I've used commercial pizza cutters that work better, but this represents a great value for home use compared to the typical rollers.

    You've got to try this
I won't use regular pizza cutters anymore; I either use a cutter styled like this one or a REALLY big knife. This cutter allows a person to put pressure on the crust without messing up the rest of the pizza.

Throw out the old style cutter and get one like this!

THE PERFECT WAY TO PART YOUR PIZZA
Our family would probably not be classified as true pizza aficionados thus I never gave a thought to a "professional" pizza cutter. We've just been going along with whatever knife was handy - usually breaking the crust and creating long strings of cheese.

Then our mother's group was called to serve pizza to a bunch of hungry teenagers. Happily, my friend who was in charge of the event knew alot more about slicing pizza than I did - she brought along LamsonSharp Pizza Rocker Knives. Glad to say the event went well, the kids were happy, and the pizza was sliced quickly, evenly, easily, and cleanly.

The next day I bought one of these knives for myself. Who knows, we may even eat pizza more often.

sharp and a delight to work with BUT>>>>>>>
the wusthof "sticker" came off the knives after washing - yes of course on each knife blade it has it stamped on them "both emeril's name and the wusthof logo" but there is a cheapo sticker on the handle - you would think for this about of money they could use something a bit more sturdy/durable then a sticker!!

A great step up to quality knives !!!
I have cooked for years, and I always had OK knives. This set is an excellent step up.......they are razor sharp, and have the thickness that gives them good rigidity, as well as a great fit in the hand. I purchased these with the intention of eventually supplimenting the set with other Wusthof forged knives. Highly recommended !!!

    GREAT starter
These are superb knives. They hold an edge amazingly well, they have a great weight, and they look wonderful. These knives have an edge that lasts through sharpening (with the included steel) and have an extremely rugged design (no blades snapping off of the handle here).

When I got out of college I decided it was time to get a good knife set, the Chicago Cutlery wasn't doing it for me. I got the Emerilware knife set because of the Wusthof name and the great price. This is the best price I have seen for such high quality knives. I call it a starter not because you will replace these knives, but because you will add to the set.
