Disappointed!
Well, I bought this set without researching the difference between international set and real set from Germany. The kifves were rather dull, and its cheap price indicated its quality. I regret to jump up and bought the set at the department store.I am aware of how expensive the products from Germany, although it would be worth collecting the knives from REAL henckels!

Disappointing
It would be a great knife set by just about any other manufacturer, but it's disappointing for a set with the Henckels name. The steak knives seem like a cheap afterthought. There aren't slots for them in the knife block and they seem to be poorly made in comparison with other Henckel's products. They're akin to butter knives with a serrated edge and are very awkward for cutting steak(for which they are intended). The rest of the knife seems to be up to par with what I expected of a lower priced set from Henckels.

Lov'em
VERY NICE, sharp, nice looking, for the price this is a very good find, they look lovely and cut flwalessly.
from the cook knife to the paring knife, will do excellent job.

Cutting Board - Midnight Granite (14 x 17")

    Cutting Board
I love it and it performs as advertised.

    Very pleased
I'm very pleased with this cutting board - it is functional and washes well. I leave it sitting on my counter at all times because it's also attractive. The 'Granite' used in the product description is simply referring to the color and look of the board, not the material it's made from. It clearly states in the description that it's constructed of plastic material. A great board for a great price!

    Great as a cake board
This board works perfectly for my intended use. I'm always looking for attractive and simple ways to present fun novelty cakes. A cake can be decorated directly on this board, since it has no rims to interfere, and cakes cut on it beautifully. The speckled black is an interesting background for many themes.

    Nice knives but ...be careful
Had the knives two weeks, and was really impressed by the look feel and cut. However, after a couple of washes, rust spots began appearing. I suppose if I washed them all by hand and dried them off right away instead of air drying this wouldn't have happened(my fault..(?) ). I expected better, since I've had cheap K-mart knives for 10 years that didn't rust. I contacted farberware and they did say that if I return the rusted knives they would exchange them, with a turn around time of 6-8 weeks.

    Good low cost product
I recieved this as a wedding gift and I really like it. The knives are good quality and are sharp. They will stay nice as long as you take care of them. The steak knives work really well. I would recommend buying this product if you are on a somewhat limited budget but still want a good quality product.

The best set of stainless steel knives I've owned so far.
Oh my gosh! They are sleek, elegant, and very managable. I thought at first, "no, don't pay that much for a set of knives that will eventually rust". I'm glad I did. I've had mine for about one year. I've had similar brands and all they did were rust. Yuk! I suggest that you go for it. Take the plunge and purchase a set of these knives. You will not regret that you did.

    If Only....
First off I don't quite hate these knives... I do however dislike them quite alot.
My wife brought these into our combined kitchen (she loves them)so I use them once in a while but on soft items like raw chicken they just pull and make a mess.
I have some Nice henkles that I brought that live in the closet in the other room, when ever I am doing anything in the kitchen I take the walk to get them, Sharper and Safer IMHO then the eversharps. Plus the eversharps do not fell right in my hand...

Nowhere near as good as genuine Wusthof or Henckels...
I recently got this set and the 2 piece carving set of the same series. I know I should not have expected much for this great price, but the knives do not have anywhere as good a feel as the classic line of wusthof or the henckels 4 or 5 star knives. They are very light in weight, mostly due to the handles. Much better than a target or kmart knife, and great to start, but I expect to switch mine out with 'real' knives as my budget will allow.

    large butcher knife
The tip of my knife broke and I was wondering if you would replace it?

    The worst quality product
These knives rusted and became discolored after one dishwashing. I had to throw them away. I bought many high quality products in the same order but these knives were a real loser.

    Rust, rust, rust!
I purchased these knives about a month or two ago. I thought, "Wow, Revere ware at THAT price, what a deal!" Yeah, right! They began to rust after the FIRST dish washing and the walnut handle is dried out and looks like it will fall apart soon! I am NOT impressed! The only saving grace of this set is the fact that the knives are still sharp! Otherwise I'd trash them...Hmph! I guess I have to get some use out of them...

    These Knives are Good!!
Most people who have tried these knives, I have noticed, have given them bad reviews for their having rusted. However, anyone that knows anything about high-carbon kitchen cutlery knows not to put them in the dishwasher but rather hand wash them and dry them immediately. If done the proper way, these knives will last a lifetime, rather than being thrown away, such as one individual did with his knives. Try these knives if you want some economical steak knives that will hold an edge.

    Bad Fit &Finish
The plastic handles do not fit smoothly around the metal part. The metal extends around the plastic handles resulting in an uncomfortable grip.
The price for a set of this quality should be around ..., about half the current price.
The quality control of these items is, probably, not very good.

A Nice set for the fprice
I have had this set for a few months now and am very happy with it. The blades aren't serrated, so they can be sharpened when they start to get dull. There is a wide variety of blade sizes, so worrying that you will never have the right knife for the job is out of the question.

    Great buy - Great knives
I have been looking for a good set of knives for a while. I havn't had much success with other brands and I didn't want to spend a fortune on knives. I got these for the price and the because I thought that they looked well made. I was happy to find out that they work great. They work really good on meat which, as we all know, is hard to cut sometimes. The handles are nice too because they are really sturdy and the shape is good. I would recommend getting these, especially since you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good product.

OXO Good Grips Paring and Mini Chef Knife Set

    room for improvement
For the most part, I've enjoyed my Good Grips utensils. The mini chef knife was easy to handle and very sharp at first. However the blade became dull after a short period of very light use. Now it's even showing rust spots! I can only think OXO used poor quality steel in this knife for it to have deteriorated so quickly.

Low Quality, OXO Knives Generally Poor Quality
This two piece knife set is one of the first knive sets I ever purchased. At first I thought the mini chef was great and the parer so so. In time, the handles came off both and I tossed them because the handles kepts slipping off and that's not safe.

Now, I love knives and have the finest forged German and French knives. I've come to appreciate knive quality and this is not it. These knives do not have a full tang or a bolster. They are pressed junk in an ergonomic rubber grib. It's like they stuck a cheap knife in a kitchen utensil handle.

Instead of this junk, look at a low end set of Farberware knives. Be sure and get the "FORGED" set. Most Farberware is not forged but the forged stuff seems to always win best buy in Consumer Reports. If you don't want to spend the 50-70 bucks for the Farberware Forged line go for some low end Sabatier pressed or drop forged knives (all made in China not France at this price range)or Henkels Eversharp (pressed but dishwasher safe) for probaby fifty to under twenty monetary units.

Shape of mini-chef is a pleasure.
I have used the mini-chef for cutting garlic and spices and mincing small quantities of tomatoes and onions. The shape is excellent. It handles like a parer, but allows me to pick up the minced veggies with the side of the blade, something one just can't do with a parer. I can't speak to the quality of the steel (yet), but I had to sharpen the knives before use, which says something about the workmanship--not up to Oxo standards.

    Disappointing
We have only the paring knife from this set, and have
been very disappointed with it. Our experience was almost
identical to that of Roy Sweeting, who has also reviewed
it here. The knife lost its edge quickly, and worse yet,
fell apart a few months after we bought it. The blade
separated from the handle while cutting an apple.

No substitute for a really good set!
My wife and I were given this set of knives in a gift (Christmas 2000) after my wife complained about the cheap set we were using. We have a lot of other OXO products in our kitchen and have always been very pleased with them (the manual can-opener is just excellent). These knives however, only hold an edge slightly longer than a really cheap set and have already started falling apart. The blade of the 3 1/2 inch paring knife simply fell out of the handle. I was surprised to see that the metal of the blade only extends about 3/4 of an inch into the handle. I suppose this will happen to the other knives in time if they are all built this way. There are also rust spots on the blades despite the fact that we wash, thoroughly dry and return the knives to the block after each use. We do live in a very humid climate but I still think that the rust marks should not be there. I will say that the serrated knife has been very useful, perhaps because it doesn't need sharpening, but over all this set has been disappointing. If you are a serious cook and want good knives, I think you need to spend a bit more than this. If you can't afford the really good knives, I have to say I don't think this set is such a great compromise.

P.S. Since I wrote this review on the 27th of September, the 5 1/2 inch serrated knife that I mentioned as being useful has suffered the same fate as the 3 1/2 inch paring knife. My wife was using it (I swear) to cut through a block of butter. The blade slipped right out of the handle. Looking at the way the handle and blade are joined, I thinks it's a serious design flaw. I can't see how the company ever expected them to stay in one piece! The end of the blade (smooth metal) is simply squeezed between two pieces of smooth metal at the top of the handle. A single rivet might have made a lot of difference. I've reduced my rating to one star. Sorry OXO, try again.

    "Satisfaction Guaranteed"
OXO makes excellent products and this set is no exception. On the side of the box they offer a generous guarantee:

If for any reason you are not satisfied with an OXO product, return it for repair, replacement or refund.

These set sells at many retailers for $150 or more and they are an excellent value at that price. If you get them for less online, that's all the better. I have OXO utensils throughout the kitchen and have never had any trouble, and I would highly recommend this set.

      Too Late
I received these knives as a wedding gift. Being new to the domestic life, I was not aware that knives should be handwashed. Hence, rust has occured. Now what is the best way to get rid of the rust, so they may be used again. I also had troble locating their website on the internet.

Good blades, good selection, but flimsy
I bought this set, tested it, comparing the chef's knife and paring knives against my Henkel's **** paring knife and my Solingen chef's knife. I wanted to find a day to day knife set with steak knives to replace my old crappy serrated set. And I was very pleased with their sharpness and with the selection of blades. Much more useful than most large sets. However, after I started taking out all the knives I realized how flimsy many were. They may or may not be full tang, but certainly the blade is not connected to the bolster and I can believe that the previous reviewer has had problems with them breaking. If you don't need steak knives, the smaller forged set of Chefmate look good, but I would not suggest buying these. You may even be better off with the cheaper full tang stainless set.

      Great Knives!
I bought a set of Chefsmate knives a few years ago and love them. My set have a nice thick bolster to prevent my fingers from getting chopped off and metal rivets to secure them to the handle. I am not sure if this set has that construction, but these are quality knives. They are sharp, reliable, and have a nice weight to them.

Now to the main issue that I hear in these comments... The rust that happens on the blades... I cringe to hear that someone put them in the dishwasher! Kitchen knives deserve way more care than that. Use the knife, clean the knife with NON-LEMON TYPE detergent, and then dry after use. (Remember that citric acid will rust metal as is true in all cases) Do this to these and they will last

      8" Goodgrip MV55-Pro
We liked this knife very much until the handle broke off while cutting pizza. Used for about 3 mos & never put in the dish washer or left submerged in water. I found the the knife required little shapening as the blade was hard & that portion in the handle was also hardened unfortunately and broke due to a brittle fracture. How do I get a warranty replacement?

      Not a chefs knife
This knife is a nice little multi-purpose knife. Like others have said it loses its edge fast, but is soft steel that sharpens quickly. This knife, however, is not useful for chopping or mincing. The bolster is too small and after chopping a few items you'll find that you have bloody knuckles, not very appetizing while preparing food. I bought this knife for camping but I don't find it as useful as a proper chefs knife.

      Good for home cooks
I would definetly recommend it for the casual home cook, it is a very reliable knife, but if you are a cooking student invest more money you will want a more professional knife in the future
