Useful but not a replacement for a sharpener...
Great Steele - but a little long for most blocks. As a honing steele, this atractive product perfecly performs the task of realigning the blade. I have the 22 knife big block and it sits in that perfectly. It bottoms out in smaller blocks with the tip of the steele making fairly harsh contact with whatever material is under the block. Could chip a tile counter.
Useful but no substitute for a sharpening stone or sharpenerThis is useful for setting up the edge on an already sharp knife, but don't expect to sharpen a completely dull knife with it.
It's good to get a pro to show you how to sharpen a knife and set an edge.
If you do it right, when the knife is properly sharpened and set, you can slice a piece of paper easily, as if with a razor. If the edge is set wrong, the paper won't cut or will saw unevenly.
So after you sharpen the knife, use this steel to get the edge set exactly right. It puts on the finishing touch and makes a real difference.

LIKE NEW AGAIN I recieved by Presto sharpener yesterday and it turned my knives back to like new again. Thank you Target and Presto, my Henkels are sharp again.
Great Sharpening DeviceI look at the gold box every day, and saw this sharpener on sale. I already own it...purchased it locally, not from Amazon, and it cost me more than the gold box price. It does an amazing job on sharpening knives. I have an older set of Chicago cutlery, and it sharpens them razor sharp whenever I use it.....which my wife says it not often enough!! I sharpened our knives the day before Thanksgiving, and the bird practically carved itself. It's also very easy to use, and has a foolproof design. I recommend it highly.
Now you're cookingThis is a wonderfull purchase. I love to cook and sharp knives are essential. Originally I bought it with the intention of putting it with my husband's Christmas gift stash so he could use it for sharpening fishing knives. However, after getting a good look at my own kitchen knives, I cracked it open and started sharpening. It is easy to use, and does a great job. Incidentally, I have two sets of the Henkels knives and just bought a set of Calphalon. All are wonderful. The Henkles are going on ten years of solid use and even when dull did a respectable job. Now they are sharp and ready for more good things to come out of the kitchen. Definately worth checking out. Oh, I bought mine (sharpener) on clearance too, gotta hit those clearance end caps Target devotees!

It works!I took a...dull knife and in 1-2 min had it slicing paper with this sharpener. On my good knives 30 seconds to put on a really nice edge. I'm very pleased so far, and expect that this will be less wearing on my knives than using stones. I'll be using this regularly to put on a quick edge while cooking. Highly recommended.
If you have good knives you need a good steelIf your good knives are getting dull this steel is the way to go. A few swipes every time you use the knife will bring the edge back. We have a set of chicago cutlery that has been rejuvinated with this steel.

Worth the priceThis is a large sized stone with a good non slip base. The honing surface is reasonably thick, and very uniform. A minute of honing will turn a factory edge into a razor edge. No gimmicks, no bull. You see the results of your effort right now, and quickly learn to fine tune your technique. Unless you have very badly abused blades, this stone and a good steel will be all you need to keep an envious edge on your knives.
The real path to razor sharp.I bought this stone to detail the edge of the new set of Calphalon forged kitchen knives that I recently purchased. I have used oriental water stones in the past, and this stone is as good as any I have used. With just a few strokes, it will turn a Calphalon, Henckles, or Wusthof into a Gillette. With this stone and a good steel, your knives will last far beyond your years.

Should be a terrific sharpenerI currently own a sharpener similar to the one above that I bought years ago at a farm fair and they do a terrific job at keeping knives sharp. One thing that is not mentioned, eventually the sharpener needs to be cleaned to keep it working well, all that you need to do is wash it and wipe off the shapener to keep it in top working order
Get this Before Considering a Honing SteelIf your knives are dull, chances are you need to sharpen them before you need to hone them. Get a diamond-impregnated steel such as this one. This steel will quickly sharpen your knives. Don't try to sharpen your knives with the honing steels that come with most knive sets or that are popularly available or you'll wreck the honing steel as well as waste a lot of elbow grease. They say to use a steel at least as long as your knife. I don't have any 12" knives, but I like the little extra room for error...

A good steelI have used a number of steels in my life, and though there may be some that are better, this steel is as good as any I have used, and is priced right. The diamond steels are a tease, but they do not seem to last very long. Also, the main job of a steel is to "allign" a blade. In practise, they will improve the sharpness of a blade, but that is just a small bonus. When a blade gets dull, you hone it on a stone (get a good one). If you use a steel for it's intended purpose, this one will do the job well.

As easy as cutting warm butter...Why did I ever use the elbow greese and stone methode to sharpen my knives? I recieved this sharpener as a gift. setup was easy I just pulled it out of the box made a couple of miner settings then pluged it in. In a matter of minutes I was shapening my dull kitchen knives. The sharpening action is very easy, just run the knife through the first slot a few time then through the second slot a few more and with the aid of the electric motor my knives come out sharper then when new. I've used this sharpener 40 or so times now and it still puts a fantastic edge on my knives. This sharpener would've been well worth my investment with just the time I save not having to sharpen by hand, had I bought it for myself. It does it's job well.

Keeps my Global knives fiendishly sharpThis is a steel made expressly for Global's Cremova 18 and Molybdenum/Vanadium stainless steel blades which is harder than the average German stainless steel. Together with the Shikansen sharpener, it keeps my knives as sharp as the day I bought them with minimal effort. It's expensive, but a good investment.

Wonderful honing rod for any knife, global or otherwiseAs a professional chef, I have used quite a number of steels, and I must say that this is the best 'steel' I have used. The ceramic does a wonderful job of honing my knives to a perfect edge and I like that you can buy replacement ceramic in case you drop it or break it somehow. I would definately buy again.

Great Sharpener! We just received this today and my husband of one month has proceeded to put a very sharp edge back on each knife in our Henckels knife set. The reason for four stars instead of five? When it arrived, the sharpener was not round, as I expected, but a two-sided oval sharpener. Although it is very easy to use and does a great job, it arrived with no directions. For someone who has never used this type of sharpener before they may not find it as easy to use. But for those of you (like my husband) would say "All I care about is that it sharpens the knives and it does a great job." (A direct quote from one who prides himself on putting a good edge on our knives. As a matter of fact he is scouring the neighborhood looking for more knives to sharpen.)
This is how you really put an edge on a knifeNot Much to say, Are you sick of sharpening your kitchen knives only to realize it doesnt sharpen anything but your frustration.
Well say goodbye, Most sharpeners you get are actually for Honing the blade. This Diamond dusted steel instantly puts a razor sharp edge on any stainless steel non serrated knife.
Dull blades are Dangerous blades, Most accidents in kitchens
are due to dull knives, Your more likly to cut yourself with a Dull knife than a razor sharp knife.

A fine product.I am very pleased with the results of this diamond steel. It sharpens all our kitchen knives, big and small. I was a bit disappointed with Amazon's package. It is completely shrink-wrapped, bare steel, with no manufacturer's package or warranty paper, nothing! However, this is a fine product. It took me less than 2 minutes to sharpen a knife - no kidding.
These tools are excellent for what they do but they dont sharpen, per se. As the knives are used the blades lose their *straight* edge...you cant see it with the eye but it effects cutting. These will perfect the edges between uses, and probably prolong time between sharpening a bit but they wont make a dull knife sharp.
This is a very good model. I dont have any experience with any other ones. Many appear quite similar so its hard to know at times what makes one better than the other. This handle is very comfortable to use. Solid when you are holding it in one hand, and a knife in the other.
Personally, it isnt something I find totally necessary in the kitchen but i know many do. For them this would be an excellent product
