All the knife you'll ever need.
You can spend a lot more on a knife, but you won't buy any better performance where it counts, in the kitchen. Made of sharpenable stainless with a synthetic handle that will never loosen or break apart, this knife has a nice heft and a good edge and should last most home chefs a lifetime. Give it a few strokes with the steel every time you use it and the edge will last for years without needing to see a sharpening stone.

If your cutlery drawer is full of various inexpensive supermarket blades, "miracle" knives and the like, throw them all out and buy one decent blade like this, and you may be amazed how versatile a simple, quality knife can be.

    Perfiect edge and perfect balance
I recently purchased this knife and am overjoyed with the performance. If you don't have a well balanced professional knife you can't imagine how nice it is to work with one. I went to the local restaurant supply stores and handled several brands and sizes to see what felt best. The Henckels Pro S 8" was the best. The 10" seemed top heavy but I'm sure someone else may feel different. The blade holds an incredible edge as well. I steel the blade before each use to keep the edge in the best cutting condition.

Save the Cuisinart for BIG jobs
We live on our boat and don't leave the Cuisinart on the galley counter. I found that there is little reason to break out the Cuisinart unless I have a large amount of food to process. The 8 inch Pro S has stayed sharp and in the year I have owned it have only used the honing steel to keep the knife in perfect condition. Use a plastic or wood cutting board and use the steel and enjoy this fine knife. I plan to buy the six inch model soon.

I can't say enough good things about this knife!
This knife is very heavy, & is perfect for slicing & dicing. It is very sharp, & will cut through anything with ease. I plan to buy more of knives by this manufacturer. I have a full set of Calaphon cookware, & you can't go wrong with this brand. It has a full tang, & a lifetime guarantee.

    Excellent all-purpose knife
I'm not a chef nor much of a cook so I want and need just one all-purpose knife in the kitchen for most jobs. This knife is perfect. I love the feel, heft, and size. It's also WONDERFUL to have a sharp knife in the house!! This purchase has taught me that knives are one of those things where you truly get what you pay for. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

    Great knife
I bought this knife as part of the 15 piece set. As with all the knives in the set (see review), it is a wonderful example of the knife makers art. Everything from design to execution is on par with any knife produced in Germany. They just feel right in your hand. The steel is a great compromise between stain resistance, and edge keeping ability. A simple rinse and wipe keeps it looking new, yet a few strokes on a whetstone bring it to a razors edge. These are knives that you will be proud to own.

    Utility is the key
I purchased this knife by itself (not in a set) and find it to live up to it's "utility" claims. For those of you who buy knives individually instead of in large sets, this is a nice addition. I was looking for something smaller to compliment my Santoku Chef's knife, but thought the smaller paring knife wouldn't be very useful for much else. This size works well for small chopping tasks and is easy to use for paring as well.

It really doesn't make much sense to get a set that includes several of these smaller knives. This one alone has exceeded all expectations.

    An ideal knife
This refers to the classic style which to me is my choice between both styles. This is one of the favorites in my Wusthof set. Quality, well balanced, holds a sharp edge, comfortable, rated #1 by Consumer Reports magazine; are some of the great comments on this knife as with all the other Wusthof knifes I have. Try one & you might be hooked on them like me. I recommend trying each style for some prefer the Grand Prix & others choose the Classic style. Either way, you are a winner with a Wusthof.

    My Favorite Knife
There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap.

The Wusthof 4 ½ inch utility knife is a great all-around knife. This is the knife I use for the majority of my small chopping work (when I don't use a Chef's knife).

A useful addition to your kitchen knife collection
Excellent for slicing ripe tomatoes and thick-skinned fruit as well as dinner rolls, this is a great little knife to complement a quality set of sharp non-serrated knives.

Excellent quality, good price, hefty handy knife works great
We admit to being a little partial to Henckels cutlery and have wanted a 5" utility knife for some time for dicing green peppers, fine-slicing onions, and similar tasks. This item has a great smooth feel in the hand, with enough heft in the handle, and enough length on the blade, to provide excellent precision in whatever your smaller cutting tasks might be. "Sharp" goes without saying and our prior experience with Henckels serrated edges leads us to believe the knife might well outlast its owner!
We feel the price paid, especially compared to the Henckels Pro, 4-and-5-star models, was a fine deal and we are so completely satisfied, we highly recommend this outstanding piece of cutlery!

    Excellent knife
I've been in the market for a mid-sized knife for a while now. My 10-inch chef's knife is too clumsy for some tasks, and my paring knives are too small. Enter the Henckels 6-inch utility blade.

The first thing I noticed was the wood handle -- I much prefer wood to the newer rubbery handles. Also, the heavy back-weighting made it feel quite steady in my hand: I liked the balance. The blade itself is sturdy, shaped like a small version of a chef's knife. And -boy!- is it sharp! This makes trimming small cuts of meat and vegetables very easy. I highly recommend this knife.

    An excellent tool
This knife is very versitle and extremely well made. It has perfect balance and is razor sharp. Prep work is a joyous experience with it. It stays sharp under heavy use for quite sometime. To maintain its edge, I only have to pass it a few times on each side against a sharpening rod. Its high carbon quality steel blade lends itself perfectly to honing a razor sharp edge that lasts for a long time compared to a stainless steel blade. If you purchase this high quality knife, it's imperative that you have a means to sharpen it to maintain its perfection.

    Luxury unleashed !!! O' lah lah !!!
If you've got to have a serrated knife this be da one! I have the 8" chef's, the 8" bread and the 4" paring knife from this brand/line in my home block but NOT in my work bag...'cause other cooks STEAL 'em from me!
This is THE most attractive European knife line made...period, 'nuf said.
The quality, edge, finish and steel of this line of knives is unsurpassed. Wusthof and Henckels be forewarned.
    Buy now with no regrets.
We slippin' dis pretty baby 5 mojo*z 'cause we be in love!!!

    You gotta buy this knife!
I bought this knife several years ago (mine has a different handle but otherwise the same) as a starving college student. My mom started me on these knives and I won't use anything else. It is labelled as a tomato/bagel knife but it's more useful than that. It's fabulous on a wide variety of vegetables when you're not looking to mince. I use it to slice up bell peppers, half celery stalks, shred lettuce (and get that hard knot out of the base) and of course tomatoes. Mine is 4 years old and as sharp as the day I bought it.

    I cook for a living...
Although I'm not a big Wusthof fan I DO have this knife in my knife bag at work and use it often. It is excellent for small slicing jobs that require accuracy such as small potatos, mushrooms, fruit, etc., any thing that would "stick" to a wider blade...(you pull a blade back towards you through a potato, not chop down or push away from you)...anyway...Wusthof's blades are thinner than traditional German design, almost Asian thin, that's why they are so light in weight and the edge hones quicker...but does it last?
I like this knife, I like the "Grand Prix" a LOT more than the "Classic"... I give it 5*
P.S. Don't let anyone fool you...there must be two or three dozen great knife companies out there, from a lot of different countries...you just haven't found them yet. I have 9 different, high quality, brands in my "work" bag and I love them ALL.

    Great All Around Knife
The Wusthof 4 ½ inch utility knife is a great all-around knife. This is the knife I use for the majority of my small chopping work (when I don't use a Chef's knife). Many people have personal preferences about brands of knives, and mine is Wusthof. I like the feel and the balance. The Grand Prix is a more modern design than the other Wusthof designs, without being overly European/Avant Garde.

This is a great knife for your collection. The blade holds a sharpening quite well, and you will clearly notice the quality difference if you are stepping up from a lower level of knife.

The finest paring knife you can aquire
I have been an avid amateur cook for 25 years and have worked with a wide variety of kitchen tools during that period. Knives that I have utilized range from the "cheap but effective" to the finest products from Henckels. But the knives I use daily are the Globals', and the one that I cannot be without is this one. Although it is designated by the manufacturer as a Utility knife, it is simply the best paring knife I have ever used, and I've gone through a lot of them. Its razor sharpness is easily maintained, it has a perfect heft and balance, and it is exactly the "right" size and shape. It just feels great. Sorry if I sound so effusive -- I am not connected with the Global Corporation in any way -- but I would recommend this knife to any serious cook who has exacting standards in kitchenware.

the bagels will run and hide!
I bought one of these after using one in the caffeteria at work. Then I bought another after my mother took the first one!

Possibly inspired by the French revolution, the Bagel Biter borders on overkill - but you can't question it's effectiveness. Drop in a bagel, drop the blade, start schmearing cream cheese. It's very quick, very safe (if you can figure out how to hurt yourself with this, you're too smart for that nonsense in the first place) and very easy to clean. It's nonstick blade should cleave every conceivable bagel in your life.

It misses 5 star perfection on account of messiness - its straighthrough design deposits crumbs right on your countertop. A crumb catcher of some sort would be the garlic spread on the potato bagel :-)

    Dual Purpose Quick Action Tool
I've found this Bagle Biter to be a dual action tool. One that slices without dicing and also serves a stress buster after that rough mornin' commute. Never once known to fail and like those watches, it takes a lickin,' and keeps on splitin'those bagels each morning.

    Gotta Have The Bagel Biter!
We use one of these at work, and it is the best thing to use to cut bagels safely. When I saw this online at such a great price, I had to have one myself. I don't know how many times I've cut my fingers using regular knives to cut bagels! This holds the bagel for you, and all you do is push the blade through the bagel. The blade is sharp enough to easily glide through with one push. It is great! If you've gotta have a bagel, make sure you've got the bagel biter!
