A Staple Cookware Item of Any True Cook
I flat out love this fryer. I purchased it to replace one of those fancy electric deep fryers. By doing so, I've saved counter space, because this fryer sits on your stove and can be stored permanently on the back of your stove full of grease with the cover on it. It will heat grease fast, and because its cast iron there is an exceptional taste difference in everything you fry. Also, you can use it as a regular pot. If you are assembling just the basics or a dream kitchen, a cast iron Skillet, Grill, and Fryer are a must have. There is no replacement item, or substitute for certain things you cook.

A must have!
Wish I had got this a long time back instead of spending a fortune on all those expensive non-sticks and all! This is a great buy esp with the pre seasoned coating its just awesome. Cleaning is very easy! Trust me ...I have a huge cast iron skillet, griddle and this one. So if it's not worth it I would let know rt away. I would certainly recommend the Lodge cookware to anyone.

Wonderful and Versatile!
I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period. For dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This fryer is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!). In fact, in this particular chicken fryer, I've produced everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

The best thing about the chicken fryer is its somewhat smaller circumference than the skillet or the Dutch oven. It takes up a bit less stovetop space and provides greater depth, making it ideal for small batches of soups, stews, or deep-fried goodies.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made.

Love it!
This pan is fabulous! A whole chicken will fit inside to fry up at once and it will be the best tasting you have ever had. It has multiple uses because of the size and it can be used on stove top, in the oven or on a grill or over a campfire. I primary bought it for fried chicken, but I find myself reaching for it more and more for other items. Cleanup is easy & it will llast forever. The price is great & you won't be sorry you bought it. You might even wonder how you survived without it before!

My Favorite Kitchen Item
Can't say enough good things about this item. It was easy to season and is very versatile. Seems to get better the more I use it.

better than a dutch oven
I recently bought a 12" lodge skillet, a 5-quart dutch oven, and this item (5-quart "Chicken Fryer"). I use this item more than the other two combined. If I had known how much I would love it, then I would not have bought the Dutch Oven. I use the 12" skillet for sears but I use this item for sears that then require adding lots of other stuff to it (like a pasta dish). Think of this as a really deep 12" skillet. In fact, it comes with a lid that fits the 12" skillet. A perfect complement to the 12" skillet. I highly recommend this if you are in the market for cast iron. Don't worry about it being unseasoned. It is really easy to season these and they come with instructions (or you can do a search on the internet for other seasoning instructions). Also, I found the 5-quart Dutch Oven a little small on the base (especially for searing a pot roast). This puppy has plenty of area on the base and is still large enough to hold an entire meal. The only downside: with the lid it weighs 16 pounds. For some this might be heavy. Don't worry about the handle getting in the way in the oven -- it is not very long.

this fryer looks like it can do the job i need and it is sturdy because it is made of stainless steel

Not Just for Deep Frying
Frankly, I have no intention of deep frying a turkey. I'm sure deep fried turkey tastes great, but it's a fairly dangerous process. I'll continue to brine and slow roast my turkey.

So why did I buy this? Well, I have an electric stove, and you just can't get a wok hot enough to do real stir frying. (It's more like stir braising on the electric stove.) The base of this baby is my outdoor stove replacement. A wok fits perfectly in the cradle of the base.

Besides getting a nice wok base, I gained a really big stainless steel pot, and a nice thermometer, which made stewing tomatoes in preperation for canning easier.

So you don't have to want to deep fry a turkey to buy this baby. It's not a one-trick pony.

3 Year Available !
I looked at many different deep fryers. Many claim to be a Stainless Steel Deep Fryer. The difference being the tub is stainless and the lid is made of plastic. The baskets are different grades of steel and chrome.

The DeLonghi offers a fryer tub and lid in stainless with a high grade steel and chrome used in the basket. You can check if it is stainless by using a magnet. It will not stick to stainless. The outer shell is made of high polished steel. This all makes for good heat transfer. Clean up is a breeze. You can clean the item with a rub and not a scrub. The filter is metal and requires no replacement.

The unit holds a gallon of oil and I prefer corn or vegetable oil rather than peanut. Tip ! Use the old container for storing oil.

The heating unit sits in the oil and offers a cool zone for food particles to fall below the heating unit. This allows the particles not to burn and ruin the oil. Easy clean up when oil is cold. Particles stay on bottom and not in the oil when pouring used oil in container.
The extra large capacity baskets will allow you to easily put 3 lbs of chicken with room to spare.

The max temperature of 360* is not a problem. 350* is more than adequate to cook any items for deep frying. Recovery time is excellent. The heating element of 1650 watts is more than adequate. Be aware a higher temp may brown or burn the outside while leaving the inside uncooked. Especially in thicker foods. Not to mention the higher the temp, the quicker the oil breaks down. Most food establishments operate their fryers at 350*. Higher wattage may cause your circuit breaker to blow where 15amp. breakers are used. Some require a 20 amp breaker. There is also a pressure switch to assure the heating unit is installed properly in the fryer in addition to having it's own safety breaker built in and can be manually reset.

There is a slot to hold the basket over the oil to drip excess oil off the item cooked. Tip ! Do not leave basket full of food over oil for an excessive amount of time since steam or heat from fryer oil may reduce crispiness.

There is minimal contact with metal regarding the plastic.
DeLonghi comes with a one year warranty and inside each box is an envelope with DeLonghi offering an additional 2 year warranty for only $12.00. Making a total of three years.

The manual is well detailed regarding use and care but very poor regarding cooking times. I guess since this is a commercial style fryer for the home , they feel the cook will determine when the food is finished. Keep in mind the food will continue to cook when it is out of the oil.

The electrical magnetic disconnect can only be inserted one way. The connection is also well protected in back of the unit and is raised off the counter.

I also like the high sides of the frying tank allowing adequate room for the expansion of the oil especially with fries. Not a problem with oil running down the sides!

I also like after cleaning the unit there is no after smell of oil compared to the plastic lids and side models.
The details regarding this unit can be reviewed in Review Details.

In addition customer service is readily available with a simple phone call offering a toll free number. Waiting times not an issue. Very responsive to e mails as well.If your looking for a high quality fryer with a excellent warranty and easy clean up this is for you.

Worth it
The price may seem a bit high (sale price is a bargain) but this is a quality lobster pot. I've taken it fishing and camping and it survives the trips and cooks up delicious crabs and lobsters every time.

FISH FRY!!!
I purchased this cooker because we really like fish but hate the smell in the house after frying fish. It works GREAT!!!. Christmas Eve dinner is traditionally fish so on Christmas I was outside frying up fish in the new cooker. It really works wonderful. The frying kettle is just the right size, it is easy to operate and clean and we don't have that smell in the house afterwards. You need to pratice a bit as to how high a flame you need and use common sense. I highly recommend this cooker. It is very reasonably priced, nicely made and works great.

The VERY BEST Hot wings...
I purchased the hot wing kit from Eastman because my wife and I love wings.
This is a high quality cooker that is well thought out. The pot and basket are rugged and durable. This product is built to last. Even the handles on the pot are better than I expected for the price.
The first batch that I cooked following the instructions that came with the kit turned out to be the best we have ever eaten. We have cooked them for friends and parties and there are never any left. Friends always ask for the recipe. We don't tell very many people about the sauce though.
Get one of these kits and you will be a sucessful chef in high demand.
Look out footbal season, it's going to get messy.

the finest new chicken fryer around
If I could have only one piece of stove-top this would be it! It is the most versatile piece in my kitchen. Aside from it's assigned purpose of frying chicken -- this piece is great for beans, makes a great pot of rice (thanks to that heavy lid), and bakes a great cornbread too. It weighs just right for everyday use and cleans in a snap.

If you can only buy one piece of new cast-iron, make it this piece...

A Must Have for Fried Chicken
It's simply not possible to make real Southern Fried Chicken without a cast iron skillet. This Lodge chicken fryer is the perfect size and weight for making tender, juicy fried chicken at home - better than any faux Kentucky Colonel dreamed of!

Another must have in the kitchen
I have a family of 5 and we use our fryer almost weekly. Works great for bacon to keep your stove top cleaner and anything else you want to cook.

Great for BBQ Smoker
I purchased these for my Smoker on recommendations of other reviewers and I do not regret having these. They are comfortable and excellent to use. I though wearing gloves would be terrible in handling not only the Smoker but the food, the tools, etc. Was I wrong! I am so glad that I finally have stopped myself from being burned .. LOL

GREAT GLOVES....
These are great gloves.... you will want to wear them all over the house..

Great grilling gloves!
I bought these gloves with the intention of using them for arranging my charcoal before lighting the grill, but I got so much more. They are extra long so they protect your arm/sleeve from charcoal stains and they can withstand pretty much heat. I like to light the charcoal and then put my grid on while the fire is going. Now I don't worry about getting burned! Kids, don't try this without an adult present. I recommend these for anyone who loves to grill.

AMAZING PRODUCT
This thing is amazing. I will never own a different deep fryer. The quality of food that comes out of this fryer is incredible.

DeLonghi ROTO Fryer Far Exceeds Expectations
I was hesitant to spend the extra $20-$30 on this fryer because my parents had one of the older models which didn't rotate the food, and the food tasted great. Once I received my ROTO Fryer, however, I realized that this model was worth more than the extra $20-$30 I had paid. The food tasted less greasy and was more crispy than the fryer my parents had purchased. None of the food I have cooked in my fryer has left a greasy taste in my mouth. The food even comes out of the fryer with very little grease. Clean up is also a breeze with their easy clean drainage tube.

I would highly recommend this product as it far exceeds the older now outdated models!!

Great value for the dollar.

Definitely worth the money
We don't deep fry a lot of foods at our house, but occasionally we do a batch of wings or french fries. My old fryer was the basic bucket type. You filled it with a half gallon of oil, and plugged it in. There was no temperature control, it just got very hot. The food got cooked, but invariably the oil spattered everywhere and there was a big mess. Well, the old one died, and it was time to buy a new one. When I saw this new breed of fryer, I loved the idea but wondered if the convenience was worth the price. I bought one, and it's most certainly worth what it costs. It uses less oil, and the lid prevents spattering. Food cooks crisp, evenly and quickly, and stays neatly in the basket. The non-stick interior and excellent oil draining and filtering system makes it easy to clean. If I ever need to replace this fryer, I would get something similar or better and never go back to the old fashioned type of fryer again.
