Lodge Quality
This pot is another quality Lodge product and works well if it is seasoned correctly. It is easy to clean and works as heavy cast iron should. It is a bit small and would get 5 stars if it were 3.5 quarts. Well-worth the money, however and useful.

Works really well
A solid product & an excellent value. I was using an all clad pan for deep frying until I got the lodge pan and the basket. There's a huge improvement in the quality of fries & fritters I make now. The cast iron pan keeps the oil at a more constant temperature, the heating is uniform and the frying is even. I highly recommend this product. For larger families, the size may be a problem as others have mentioned.
This one also comes with the thermometer even though the product description does not mention it.

Great fryer if you use it correctly
For those chefs among us who either can't afford to have a built-in countertop deep-fryer, or for whom it would be impractical, the Lodge cast-iron deep fryer is a worthy and effective substitute. This is a great device, provided you use it properly. There are three essential rules to follow to achieve successful deep-frying. Though they are not complex, they are incredibly important, and failure to follow them will lead to less than satisfactory results:

1. USE THE RIGHT OIL - For deep-frying, I prefer canola oil, which has a lower fat content and higher burn point than other oils, although some chefs sometimes use peanut or safflower. Leave at least three inches of room at the top when filling the pot with oil, because it will foam up when you drop food in to fry.

2. FRY AT THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE - This means using a thermometer, which Lodge has conveniently included with the frying kit. You cannot fry successfully without a thermometer. It is obviously impossible to know what the oil temperature is without one, and for great deep-frying results, you want the oil to be in the 350-375 F range.

3. GET THE BATTER RIGHT - If you're making fish & chips, fritters or other goodies that involve batters, it becomes key to make the batter properly - not too watery, but not too thick, either. This sometimes involves some trial and error, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be able make fish & chips as good as in the restaurants.

Not Hot
I purchased this based on other review. I must say that after cooking my french fries for over 20 minutes, they were not even golden brown. The temperature is turned up at the highest and the french fries taste like mushed oil. Nasty! I have tried cooking fries several times (in smaller batches too), with the same results each time. I give two stars because being able to see the cooking is nice, as well as the way it is put together. The power cord comes off too easily also.

Best fryer for the price!
This is the first fryer I have ever owned, and was hesitant to spend a lot due to the fact I wasn't sure that I'd use it very often. So I did a lot of researching, checking all the reviews and looking at store display models. I found that others for the same price usually got shakey reviews, and didn't have the features this one has. And when I looked at them in the stores, most of them seemed cheaply made.

I am so glad I went with this deep fryer. It heats up quickly, the temperature stays consistant, it's solidly made, and clean up is a snap. The timer has proven to also be useful - which, by the way, is a 30 minute timer, not a 15 minute timer as the description reads. The lid comes off adding to the ease of cleaning. And I believe the bowl coming all the way out is VERY important! It's so much easier to empty your oil, and clean thorougly. Also, the fact that it is cool touch really is nice. Many of the new stainless ones are not cool touch. That's fine for a waffle iron, but a deep fryer is large, and too easy to nudge while working in the kitchen. I just feel safer with this one.

The only thing I would change would be for a digital timer, but for this price I'm not complaining!

A Very Capable Deep Fryer
My wife and I have been very impressed with this deep fryer. It heats right up and cooks the food to a crispy touch with no oily taste. It also filter the air and has a view window to see food cooking. Highly recommended....

As a fryer....
I, too, bought this cooker at Target believing it was a fryer and was disappointed that the instructions noted it was NOT a fryer. Unable to find anything I liked better (the plastic machines seem flimsy and clunky), I took the advice of the last reviewer and tried it as a deep-fryer for tofu and eggrolls. It works! The thermostat seems reliable, and it heats up quickly enough. Plus, it's dishwasher-safe and nonstick. The only disappointments include the fry-basket, which isn't optimum for draining oil and is awkward to handle with a removable pinch-handle-- but I improvised with tongs. And it would be nice to have an airtight lid to store the oil-- but the glass one does just fine if you change the oil occasionally. As someone who usually avoids frying foods for health reasons, this little pot allows me to cook the few fried goods I'd normally go out for as well, or even better, than how I'd get them at a restaurant-- and it makes my "it-ain't-good-unless-it's-fried" husband feel like he's got a place in the kitchen.

I love this appliance
I have been using a Fry Daddy for a few years and wanted something that would go into the dishwasher. This is a great multi-cooker. I have the older version of the same appliance so I am using this one strictly as a deep fat fryer. The instructions said NOT to deep fry in it but it works just fine. I live alone and don't need something big and this is just the right size for me. It would be nice to have a plastic cover for it but I like the clear glass lid. The basket is okay also. I can use it in the older model as well. Cooking dried beans in it takes less time and electricity. Thanks, Presto!

GREAT!!!
I dont want to say too much, but it is really great!

Unbelievable
I used this fryer a few times and it worked quite well. About the 10th time I used it, the material coating the pot burned off and turned my food black. Of course I had to throw it away.

Simplest is Best
I really like this fryer. Easy to use, so we use it all the time. Efficient use of oil; holds temperature well; no surprises.

Good for my frying needs
I fry things about 1-2 times a week, and I liked my fried things to be very crispy yet not laden with oil. I wanted something that would truly get to a hotter frying temperature, to make my frying quicker and more "healthful"...(healthy frying....is that an oxymoron or what?) Because I don't fry THAT often, I just needed something simple.

I like this fryer because the heat-up time is very quick, and there is much less splatter then if you were frying in a pot. When I fry, I usually do your typical fried foods: fries, onion rings, wontons, etc. I have not tried to do anything else in it yet.

If the oil is fairly clean after I use it, I will put it in the refridgerator, but not keep more than a week. This is a very simple fryer. If you are a more heavy-duty fryer, then you might want to look into a fancier one. The exterior is not cool-touch, and there is no basket. If you only do small batches of things, and don't really fry that much, or even if you do, then this will be a great fryer for you.

The Best Turkey Ever!
Yesterday (Christmas) instead of having cold turkey sandwiches we cooked an entirely new fresh bird for the evening meal. I have to say that in 50 minutes we had the best tasting turkey I have ever had. The crisp skin melted in your mouth. The frying of the turkey was easy and uneventful by following the enclosed instructions. We looked like tailgaters out on the front sidewalk frying the turkey with the freshly fallen snow around us. By the way, the leftovers made great tasting sandwiches today. Excellent product when used correctly.

Makes great turkey
I was hesitant to make fried turkey this year because of all the dangers involved in frying one, however, after a lot of research, I decided to give it a try. Assembling it was easy and about people complaining about how unsturdy it is, I have to disagree. I thought it was pretty sturdy, it's not like someones going to walk by and kick the fryer. About the oil over flowing, I got tips from other sites on placing your bird in a trash bag and placing the bag in the empty pot, filling it with just the right amount of water, then take out the bag and then either mark the pot or just remember where the water mark was located. Empty the pot and make sure you dry it out well, add your oil (peanut oil is best due to it's high heating temp) and you should be fine. Another tip was adding a whole onion in the oil so the oil wouldn't scorch. I don't know if it actually worked or not, but I did it anyway and it didn't seem to change the flavor of the bird. When adding the turkey into the oil, lower it very slowly. We made cooked a 20lb turkey in less than 1 1/2 hrs! Make sure this is all done in an open area of course and not indoors. If you're careful, you'll have a wonderfully moist and great tasting turkey!

Only unsafe if improperly used
Though I can't speak to this particular product, I've also seen the UL video footage, and even that comes with the disclaimer that they were not following directions.

I just had some delicious fried turkey yesterday, so please don't let the potential dangers scare you off. A charcoal grill could be equally as dangerous, if used improperly.

Just a few tips:
1. READ THE DIRECTIONS! Don't let your manliness get in the way of this one. You're working with boiling oil and an open flame connected to a propane tank. You don't want to learn the hard way here.
2. Use only as much oil that will cover the turkey. You don't want to over fill the pot...this is what the UL testers did to force the oil to overflow.
3. NEVER use a frozen turkey. Make sure that it's fully thawed, and patted dry with a paper towel. You probably know how oil reacts when you put frozen french fries into a skillet. Imagine that same reaction with 8 gallons, and a 10 lb ice block of a bird.

If you stay safe, and use your head, these cookers can be a great tool, and produce an incredible meal. Bon appetit & happy thanksgiving!

Great idea, but bad design
I purchased my fryer in January after my other open top fryer died. I researched many days before deciding on this one. The first two times I used it, I was in heaven! THEN the third time I added the same amount of product that I had in the past and it proceeded to boil over! ( through the filtered vent area) I had to raise and lower the basket constantly in order to keep the unit from boiling over. I read in the manual that this could happen with wet food or if I added to much. I adjusted my amounts and also dried off the french fries with a paper towel (very time consuming) It still boiled over! I lowered the temperature and guess what?? it boiled over! And if that isnt enough, the oil that condenses on the top of the lid pours out the back of the unit as you open the lid. What a terrible mess it makes. So, either I bought the only lemon out there, or Delonghi needs to make some changes!

Excellent deep fryer.
I have been searching for a good deep fryer and finally found one. The Delonghi D690 is excellent. It looks nice and it does not feel flimsy.

The timer is a good feature although it feels like a last minute add-on. The tube for emptying the oil is very helpful. I think it is patented because this is the only fryer that had one during my research.

The temperature setting is not flimsy as the majority of the fryers out there.

The only bad thing about this product is that it has Teflon non-stick coating on the sides of the pan. The bottom is not coated so I guess it is not going to be a cancer hazard since it is the bottom where the heat is generated.

The best in this price range
The 690 deep fryer is the best in this price range without a doubt. I bought one last month right here, after EXTENSIVE shopping and comparing of prices. It has the biggest basket of any of the 2.2 pound capacity listed fryers. Yes, I went to Sears, Target, Walmart, The Navy Exchange (I'm in the Navy), and
other stores and looked at them ALL. It has a drain hose to drain your oil, heats up great, cooks great, has a timer, window
to view your food, an excellent filter, and clean up is painless. I've deep fried onion in batter, like you get at some restaurants, chicken, Stuffed Jalepenos, Egg rolls, and even made Funnel cakes like at the carnival, all with out problems and a lot of greasy food. I highly reccomend this fryer if you are in the market for one. Oh yeah, the wife loves it too. Very little smell.

Eastman Outdoor Kit
I have seen this at work and was impressed. I cannot see how it can be a fire hazard, if used properly. I intend to buy one to use for when we are in the Nascar Infield, I am not too keen on deep fried foods but I think it would be excellent for steaming Lobster and clams.

This has more than one use
This is a great set to use when you want to start out to deep fry turkeys. It really gives you just about everything you need, with the noted exception of the turkey. We have used this set at a crawfish boil and it worked out very well.
Honestly we purchased this set becuase of its flexibility. This can deep fry turkey's, fry fish, and much more. We bought ours because we like to brew beer. Finally a way to brew beer outdoors! Stainless steel pots can be very expensive, one pot alone can set you back further than this whole set.
This set comes with some good accessories, and should be very versitile. Think about using this at your local chili cook off, or perhaps at a church function, picnic, and so much more.

Thanksgiving all year long!
Easy to use, convenient and wonderful food! We started out with chickens and will graduate to the big bird turkey. Lemon Peper marinate injected (with a little hot sauce to spice it up) and we were in business. Also cooked french fries and breaded chicken strips. A car load of my son's friends showed up and we wound up having a party! NOTHING was left! Between the deep fryer and the grill, we won't ever have to use the stove again!

Too cool oil is not cool
I purchased this deep fryer because I liked the design and features. However, after using it a few times it seemed to me that the oil didn't heat up to the selected temperature. Using my trusty candy thermometer (which i knew to be very accurate) I checked the accuracy of the thermostat. I found that my unit maintained the oil at 15 degrees lower than as set.

Great fryer for 1-2 people
This fryer does the job well for the money. Odor is kept to a minimum while cooking with the filters. The basket that comes with the unit is quite usefull for frozen foods. Don't use the basket for fresh battered non-frozen food though. It sticks. The lid closes tight to keep the oil fresh and the lid is removable to make cleaning easier. It would have got 5 stars if the oil pan was removable. Not being able to hose the thing out makes it tough to clean regardless of a non stick coating. It's still easier to clean than a "burnt on" frying pan.

Great little fryer
I purchased this a few months ago. We have people over to our house every Saturday night and we use this non-stop! It has exceeded our every expectation!

This is NOT Supposed to be Professional Grade.
It not as good as the 35 pound capacity fryer I used for years in the restaurant business, but it is perfect for quick, deep fried foods right on my kitchens counter.

The temperature does favor the cool side but, this is easily overcome by letting the grease come to full temp and not overloading the fryer.

The lid design filters most of the grease from being deposited on your cupboards and counters unlike the less expensive models.

The safety features, the great basket design, and the fact that you can almost put the whole thing in the dishwasher makes it a must have for any kitchen.

I would even let my kids use this fryer.

Best Deep Fryer for your Dollar
This unit is probably one of the best deep fryer units that I've used next to a commercial fryer. Just gave it a workout frying several pounds of struffel, 24 baseball size Italian Rice balls and and eggplant. The unit didn't even break a sweat. The oil (soy oil) didn't burn or smoke, and it maintained the temperature perfectly. The handy timer allowed me handle other tasks while frying. What's amazing is the oil level was the same after frying everything. There was minimal frying odor and the clean up was a breeze. I can't vouch for the durability yet since I just received the unit. It's a pretty solid design that looks like it will last many years. This is one appliance will not get buried away for ever. All in all, two thumbs up.

I love this deep-fryer!
This deep-fryer is the best thing I have bought in ages! The large capacity means I can cook enough food to satisfy even MY family, in no time! It cleans up easily and everything comes out delicious. I haven't bothered to test the actual oil temp. since it has all passed my personal litmus test of non-greasy food output. Love the design! NO MESS afterwards. I highly recommend this fryer.
