Lotsa PastaThere's also an All-Clad steamer insert available at a very low price. I don't have it yet, but the helpful reviews here have persuaded me that it would be a useful addition.
All-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Saucepan - My Favorite Pan!Also, if you should get something stuck to the stainless steel use a product called "Bar Keepers Friend" to clean it. Most supermarkets have it and Kitchen Etc. and Bed, Bath and Beyond carry it too. The container (like a Comet can) is gold with blue and white writing. All Clad recommends it for cleaning stainless steel and it works like a dream and is very inexpensive.
Top of the line cookwareAll-Clad is the heir apparent to the position of "creme de la creme" among cookware. The inner layer of metal is aluminum to evenly conduct heat throughout the pan. The cooking surface is stainless steel, the ideal surface because it is non-reactive, easy cleaning, and more durable than nonstick compounds. All Clad offers a variety of exterior finishes to suit your taste. Finally, this line is WELL BUILT. It will outlast anything else in the kitchen.
This may be the most expensive cookware but it's also the best. For a person who doesn't have the physical strength to handle very heavy cookware, this may not be a good choice. For anyone else who is willing to pay for it, this is what you want to cook with.

Great design... great price... great all aroundFirst it is a wonderful, all around great size. Its substantial size makes it great for alot of mixing chores. Its easy to clean and maintain. And great for salads as it holds the temperature and the salads stay cold.
My old plastic bowls werent as study and had a tendancy to tip, didnt help with temerature reculation and were harder to clean (tomato would stain it , you couldnt use plastic as a make-shif double boiler, and it was hard to ever be sure any grease was off it, essential for whipping egg whites.
this is a great item. They arent bad for storage either as they nest. I wouldnt get any other bowls, at this point...
Cool Bowl
Essential Kitchen Items: Amco BowlsThis Amco 4-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl is a convenient size. I recommend buying the 5-Quart and 6-Quart sizes too. (Recall that KitchenAid Stand Mixer Bowls are in 4.5-Quart and 5-Quart sizes.) The flat bottoms means that you can place them on a counter (on top of a damp flour sack kitchen towel would prevent any slippage). There are many times you will want to use one of these bowls instead of using your stand mixer. For example, chocolate brownie mixes usually recommend 50 stirs by hand.
Highly recommended! These bowls are dishwasher-safe, too.

How big is your hand? and what will you be cutting? If you are a woman with small to average sized hands, you may prefer a 6 inch chef's knife for most of your chopping/slicing needs. If you are a man with large hands, the 6 inch size will likely feel too small.
Our kitchen has both the 6 and 8 inch sizes. The 8 inch was a wedding gift, bought to fit my husband. I tend to use the larger one when cutting heavy or thick items, but the majority of the time, the 6 inch chef's knife is the one I reach for. (I bought that after trying to accommodate unsuccessfully to the larger size.) However, when I'm cutting something really big or dense, I do reach for the 8 inch knife.
For most people looking for quality knives, this will fit the bill. I recommend that you consider starting with this one.
A final note: Please don't put a knife of this quality in the dishwasher. If you're worried about salmonella after using it on poultry, a spray of kitchen disinfectant or of a dilute bleach solution will take care of that. (After all, you can't put the countertop in the dishwasher!) Plan to hand wash it immediately in hot soapy water, learn to use a steel properly and sharpen with a good quality sharpener as needed. In return, this knife will provide you with a lifetime of service and is likely to outlast you.
Handles MOST jobs the 8 inch Cook's knife doesFor the difference, I can also buy another knife I truly feel IS a "must have" - a good Wusthof paring knife.
The 6 inch model is well balanced, sharp from the factory as are all Wusthof knives, easy to maneuver. If you're building a good knife set I recommend looking at the 6 inch Wusthof and comparing it to the 8 inch. The extra difference in price could be better spent on the paring knife. The 6 inch is made with the same high quality metal as the 8 inch too.

the knife i use the most...After every use I wash and dry it totally. Leaving these knives to drip dry (or using a dishwasher) will i think stain the blade. I do have a dark water spot or two from before i realized this.
The knife is sturdy. When you are cutting, if the blade is sharp you do not feel like it will *slip* off the food your cutting. Its solid but not heavy...

I cook for a living...I bought a 7 piece set of "Grand Prix" knives for my grrlfren two years ago because they were a bargain and all of a sudden she likes to cook. I have used her 8 inch chef's knife and although I think that Wusthof is mostly junk ... I LOVED this knife! Great grip, balance and edge, easy to re-hone and VERY comfy.
I give this one 5*s (but not in my work bag ;-)
use it in an industral kitchen

Perfect Rice, Annoying SoundsEven if I didn't have a 1-year old, I would find the aural feedback on this device wholly unnecessary. Start cooking, and you get serenaded by an electronic melody. Stop cooking, and you get another electronic melody. There are options to change the **octave** of the melody, or change it to a series of beeps (why just one beep with 15 will do?), but NOT TO TURN IT OFF. I don't want my son to wake up from his nap simply because the rice cooker is feeling self-satisfied. My old rice cooker did fine without twinkle twinkle little star, I ask you, why? WHY?
I've popped the thing open, hoping to find a speaker that I could clip the leads of of. Nope, the transducer is soldered directly onto the board and is extremely difficult to get at.
Love the rice cooker. I just wish it would shut up.
Perfect rice cooker
Great for Large FamiliesI have only used it twice so far. Once to make rice for a party of 8 and another time to make porridge.
I'm very impressed with the product. Making porridge is such a pain to watch and time but with this rice cooker I just turned it on and forgot it. The regular rice I cooked turned out fine and no sticking to the sides of the pot! Wow!!

Nice pan, but smallIt is too small to be useful for much larger jobs.
Allclad stainless sticks to things like crazy, so it is a no-no if you want a pan to use for cooking eggs, pancakes, or the occasional hash-brown in.... but that same quality makes it absolutely wonderful for making sauces out of pan drippings.
Excellent fry pan.
