I was a commited fan of Henkels, Trident, and Sabatier until Global knives were recomended by a professional I trust. I'd been battling carpal tunnel syndrome and many of my knives were just too heavy and unbalanced for steady use. I began with two of the vegetable cleavers/knives and continued to buy more. They are as sharp as razors and hold an edge beautifully. The edge is very different from that of European cutlery, so you must learn a different sharpening technique, but that comes quickly. If you are thinking of buying premium knives, be sure you try Global.

Global knives are always tops for reliability and durability, and they are the only knives I use. This particular set gives pretty much all the average household will need, and they require little maintanence.

The two knives I found most useful are the Chef's knife, which is the one you will use the most, and the bread knife. The Chef's knife is lightweight and razor sharp, and can be used for anything, from cutting tough meats to finely chopping viggies. The bread knife is excellent because it doesn't dull as quickly as most bread knives tend to. Nothing kills me more than a fresh loaf of bread getting crushed because the knife wasn't sharp enough to cut from the top.

The other knives in the set, such as the carving and paring knives, are also very useful, depending on what you are cooking. All knives in the set come with Global's trademark handel grip, which makes gripping the knife easy, and there is less chance of the knife slipping, possibly lopping off a finger. You can't beat that.

For the price, this is quite possibly the best knife set you can buy. The knives are top quality, and will require only the occasional sharpening. For someone who is considering a career as a professional chef, this set is indespensible. But for any household, this is also a great and practical investment.

Not a pro or anything, but I love these knives. . . got them after having a Chicago Cutlerey set, and these are vastly superior - work great, look great. But another great benefit -- for kitchen clutzes like me, no wooden handles to get trashed from soakings or dishwashers, and no plastic to accidentally melt on stove burners, etc. The all steel construction is the way to go. I also highly recommend getting a magnet bar to show them off in the kitchen :)

These have got to be the sweetest knives I have ever used. I used to use a Henckle chef knife, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Global.

I only have two beefs with these knives:

1) They are so sharp that they can leave deep gouges in your cutting board if you are careless (especially the serrated while cutting bread).

2) The knive handle is more difficult to dry because its dimples like to retain water. When it is wet it can create an unusual tactile sensation in your hand.

These are minor things though. The bottom line is that the knives make cutting and chopping a pleasure.

And they look cool too!

The Global 5 knife set features the standard lightweight, ultra sharp knives which make the Global name famous. The addition of a knife dock/rack makes storing your knives even easier. The set starts with the basic 8 inch chef knife with a slighly flexible blade that can be used to chop vegetables or fillet a fish. The set contains a number of additional blades from a bread knife to utility and paring knives. The first thing you'll do when you get these knives is test out making paper thin slices of everything in your kitchen. Pretty amazing. The one thing some people have rightly pointed out, is that for people who want a heavier blade, or a larger handle, look for the thicker blades such as the 8 1/4" forged chef knife. However, if you want to make all your cutting, chopping and prep work go quickly and easily, this is a wonderful knife set.

Having worked with knives for some time, I am strongly biased toward the Global knives. They have great balance in your hand, are incredibly sharp (and stay that way!), and provide overall utility in a knife that is a bit smaller and lighter than the competition. My wife was initially against me getting these, and now uses them regularly and prefers them to any other brand by far - she said "even if these cost more, they are definitely worth it". I have a hard time working in anyone else's kitchen with even expensive German knives, they just don't have the same great feel. The narrow blade and sharp angle of the blade must have something to do with why they cut so well. I am not a designer, but they certainly put it all together in a well designed knife that is well-suited to even the most descriminating cook. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with these Global knives.

I love this pot rack. I have a small kitchen and this really organized my space! It held all of my pots/pans and has room at top for additional items (extra lids, cookbooks, etc). I love it.

I searched around for a pot rack for ages, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. In the end I persuaded Santa to bring me one for Xmas. I love this rack, lots of room to hang and you can put your books on top too. It looks really classy too, which you want after buying all the bargain Calphalon pots here!!!!

I highly Recommend this rack, it is quite beautiful and pleasing to the eye once all the pots are arranged. This rack is very strong and sturdy, it holds all of my very heavy Calphalon pots and I use the top shelf to display my decorative bottles and some of my pot's glass cover. I have never been this much pleased with a product purchased online, if you've ever wanted a pot rack this is IT . I guarentee you will be very please.

After reading about these knives at various websites, I was anxiously waiting to receive my own. Undoubtedly, they are a bit more expensive than some other knive sets, but the knives are really great and beautiful!

Before purchasing the set, I only had one puny knive, so buying this was really a god-send. When the knives are in your hands, you can feel that they were constructed well and they are really, really sharp. You can easily cut yourself if you aren't paying attention. I wish that the set came with a holding block, which can be purchased separately. Right now I have them stored in a drawer that is lined with contact paper, which works fine as well.

In short, these are really nice, quality knives. I would highly recommend this product -- I've only had the set for a couple of months, but they have the construction to last through my cooking needs for a long time to come.

I just want to say this is a great set at a good price. Buy also a bread knife (that can be used for tomatoes and other tough-skin-soft-core jobs), a meat fork, a steel, and a nice small block (well, that's a bit challenging) in addition to this set and you have everything you will ever need in terms of cutlery.

This is the best price you're going to find on the only knives you are ever going to need. The very name Henckel's is synonymous with the very highest quality cutlery. These knives are perfectly balanced and feel nice in the hand. They have a good weight to them and that edge is RAZOR sharp. I'm actually sitting here with a Band-Aid wrapped around my finger from just brushing up against one of my knives while doing dishes last night. These are NOT toys! With this set you get the three basic knives that no kitchen should be without and the only three you absolutely MUST have. The paring knife makes quick work of peeling, the utility knife will slice a sandwich in a split second, and that 8-inch chef's knife is going to be your workhorse for chopping, dicing, and slicing. Like most things in life, you're better off investing a little money now for the quality than you will be replacing your knives every couple of years. At least with Amazon, you can take most of the sting out of the pricetag.

Just to let you guys know, Cutco hires what they call "web solicitors" to hype up their products on sites like this. Also, Cutco is sold through demonstrations by Cutco salespeople only and these salespeople have an interest in bashing other knives on the net. Wusthof, Sabatier, Global, and many other types of knives have blades just as strong as Henckels, the main differences will be the balancing and comfort.

There are two brands of knives that surpass all the rest; Hinckles and Cutco. They both have the strongest blades from anyone else. With these prices, go with Hinckles.
Just make sure you don't use a glass cutting board, okay?

Every knife I've ever had always felt too big. When a knife is too big for your hand you're not in complete control of the blade. That can cause accidents-cut fingers, and it just slows you down when you'd like to cut things up in a hurry. Well this knife is just the right size for someone with small hands. The length and weight are in perfect balance. This is a great knife.

I ordered these knives on a whim based on the great reviews and those reviews were right. These knives are great for cutting food. There is no struggle to cut your meat and it slices through everything very easily. Cutting the fat off of chicken is a breeze and dicing vegetables is simple. If you want a quality set of knives, purchase Henckels. These knives are pricey, but definitely worth it.

I haven't used them enought to really get a feel, but when I have used them they cut extremely well. My one dislike is that the cerrated edge tends to catch a good amount of food in it. Why did I rate it 5 stars... because of the price. For 8 quality steak knive $... is a steal.

Well, we finally broke down and replaced our drawer full of dull and bent pseudo-steak knives with this set of Henckels "real" steak knives and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! First, they are amazingly sharp. Like the other reviewer stated, they slice through steak like a hot knife through butter (just keep your fingers out of the way). We got ours in October and they show no signs of dulling. Next, we throw 'em in the dishwasher with the other siliverware and they seem to take the abuse just fine. Finally, they feel and look great. They are well balanced and give the impression of durability. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get this set in a second - they're that good.

Well, I must tell you, I totally adore this knife! It is my best friend in the kitchen and I use it pretty much for every kind of food except bread cutting. I could not afford to buy the whole set and decided that if I could have one knife that cuts just about everything I would be a happy gal. I am totally satisfied with this knife and recommend it highly.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels "Pro S" cutlery is by far the most advanced on the planet. Hand-crafted in Solingen, Germany since the early 1700's. The blade is high-carbon steel, ice-hardended by Henckel's proprietary FrioDur process. The blade is then laser-honed to tolerances of less than one-thousandth of an inch. The black acrylic (?) molded handle is permanently bonded to the full tang (which is fully visible all the way around) then riveted. Not only does this create a virtually indestructible knife, it is also quite attractive. The handle is perfectly suited to how the knife should be held...even a novice can effectively use them as if by second nature. The weight is just right - not so light you can't control it, but also not so heavy that you can't work quickly. All in all, the tool feels like an extension of your own hand. The blade has a nice curve, suited to many cutting applications like dicing, slicing, chopping, etc. Cleanup is a breeze, thanks to the highly-polished blade.

Henckels may seem a bit pricy to someone who has never experienced the pleasure of their use; however, you will soon see that they quality of the craftsmanship is well worth it to pay a little extra. To sweeten the pot, they are unconditionally guaranteed for life; if you can manage to break one (and congrats if you succeed...quite impossible) they replace it. If you keep the blade properly sharpened (Sharpening Steel . . .))they last. You'll want to keep them in a block or get one of those nifty magnetic strips - throwing them in a drawer exposes their precision edge to damage.

Compared to Wusthoff, I'd say these rank a little higher. Design is more attractive, more solid feel, better reputation.

All I can say, in summation, is watch your fingers...these knives bite!

This is the perfect knife to use for just about anything. It has perfect weight and balance, and makes life in the kitchen a whole lot easier (and more fun.) Even for a casual cook, it is worth the cost.

Although this knife works as well as I would expect an electric
knife to work, getting into the box is a @#%*&@*!! The large
fork is a plus.

This was my first electric carving knife and it has been goodbye uneven chunks of meat since then. It is easy to use, clean and store. The blades are sharp, it is easy to manouvre and comfortable to hold. I am a small time caterer and was afraid to offer any thing that needed carving... but now I'm a happy slicer.

After having a rechargeable knife that was not very "user friendly", I have enjoyed using this knife. It is ready to go the minute I plug it in. The case is very handy and the price is reasonable.

I've had this knife for several years, and it's very good. Only problem is that the wood handle has split a bit, there's a crack going between the rivets. (No, I never put in in the dishwasher.) Otherwise I like it a lot.

I bought this knife a few days ago, and it's great. It's so sharp, that I didn't have to use any strength to cut a potatoe. And it has that guard at the bottom end of the knife which I like because it's much safer and reduces the risk of cutting yourself. Also, because it's a Henckel, it has to be good. I also love the price. Buy this knife, it's great.

OUTSTANDING knife!

I have been using this knife for over a month now and it has been a joy in the kitchen. It arrived sharp enough to shave with, and with application of the steel any time it has been used, has maintained that fine edge.

It is well balanced and fits my hand well. Truly an excellent product at a reasonable price for what you get. I prefer the wood handles over the more common plastic and will continue buying piece-meal until I have filled out the set.

I love the look of this flatware. When I purchased the Henckel flatware, I was looking for an affordable everyday service that would look good and perform well. Henckels did exactly that, they look great on the table and have some weight to them. My only complaint is that the knives tend to spot in the dishwasher. However, if occasionally washed by hand the spotting clears up. I purchased a 45 piece set and will purchase another. It's great to have extra on hand for company.

We bought a set of Henckels flatware for ourselves and have since purchased two additional sets for gifts. They have a weight to them that other comparably priced stainless flatware doesn't have, are very attractive, and this particular style looks great with both traditional and contemporary table settings.

We recently purchased a 45 pc set of Manor at a retail outlet in Wichita, KS. I am trying to find more 5 pc settings of the knife,forks,and spoons. Is there any source?
