Great Can . . .
. . . If You Can Find Liners. This is truly an exquisite brand. Everything about this trash canister is fabulous. Various finishes from which to choose, ergonomically correct, well sealed, comes with complimentary can liners, great size, very well made . . . then . . . there comes the day . . . you knew it would . . . the day you need to order your first replacement can liners. Good luck. I am now completely out of liners. I have this remarkable waste disposal apparatus and cannot use it for lack of liners. I suppose I could use ordinary "tall kitchen trash bags", but Brabantia has designed this little lovely to be just not quite the same size as those old ready made can liners. So . . . I frantically search the far corners of the internet and beyond in hopes of locating these precious gems to reline my ever-so-beautiful trash canister. All this said, the can is so attractive it's worth the effort. That's all from me.

If a garbage can can be cool...
If a garbage can can be cool, this is a cool garbage can. I had one of these for a few years befor it got broken (not a design flaw, a user error) and I've been missing it ever since. This can is great not just for people looking for another piece chrome. The lid does an amazing job of containing stink. Back when I was single it would sometimes take a week and a half for me to generate enough garbage to warrant taking it out. This can helped to contain the smell of that half eaten can of tuna that ended up in the first few strata of food trash.

To sum up. Go ahead, buy it... even if you don't like it, you'll be able to say that you blew $200 on a freakin garbage can.

Economical in every way!
I bought three of these containers to use in the kitchen. Very well-designed, they hold standard grocery bags PERFECTLY. Now I remove and replace bags with ease--no more struggling and stretching bags and no more mess. The size is also very space-efficient, unlike other (mammoth and ugly) recycling bins. Attractive enough to blend into your kitchen.

The Last and Only Waste Can You Will Ever Need to Buy!
This bullet waste can has withstood 15 years of heavy use in our household (with kids)...and it still looks new! The self- closing stainless steel door is top notch and never wears out! It's easy to clean inside and out and after all these years doesn't show a hint of rust (even the one in the bathroom)! Say goodbye to garbage pail odors, lessen your concern about waste can fires and never scold your pet again for getting into the garbage! We have two of these and my goal is to have one in every heavily used room. You just can't go wrong with this purchase ...it will last a life-time!

Don't Expect Miracles
I also bought this item to deal with my cat's litter box. I think it helps a little, but don't expect miracles. I tried the boost function right after my cat did her business and did not notice any difference.

Great compact battery operated ionizer
Since I bought it this ionizer sits on my desk at work, rapidly clearing out pollutants in a way that is amazing for something so small. Battery life was about two months with about 12 hour a day use. Since it makes breathing better in a windowless office where people use chemical cleaners and marking pens, it makes my life much better. I can only rave about it. The only improvement I am looking for is one that I can plug in so I don't have to replace batteries.

Great job - especially for the price
I got this for the bathroom my cat has his litter box in. No matter how often you change them you still get a certain amount of odor. This little gadget has changed that and really does keep the air nice and fresh. Not quite what the manufacturer wanted it used for but if it works for a cat I assume it would work quite well for trash cans.

Pretty but it's got issues.
Overall, I'm happy with this. It's beautiful (which is something to say about a trash can) and it keeps the smells in and the ants out, but it has two problems. Although the inner can is removable so you can put the bag on the can and then in the casing, there is no band to keep the bag in place so when you put the can in the casing, the bag tends to get pushed off the can. I end up having to shove it back in around the can which is a pain. If I can find a rubber band big enough, I'll use that, but in the meantime, it's somewhat frustrating when changing the bag. The only other issue is the little piece which can be used to hold the top open is a tiny piece of metal which sits on the end of a rod - no screw or cap to hold it in place - which means it routinely falls off. For this much money, I would have liked a bit more functionality.

Industrial-looking but not industrial strength!
I was happy with the sleek look - but unfortunately it's kind of cheap-O. The vertical rods that keep the paper towel in place are loose and bending - and really no way to tighten! Nice looking until you use it, then kind of cheesy. The quest for a decent paper-towel holder continues, I'm afraid..

Not Well Made
This towel holder is functional but flimsy. The stainless steel is too thin at the base and the actual weighted part of the base is plastic. As long as no one's using the holder it looks OK but as soon as you try to yank a towel off the roll the base moves around and you get that "cheap feeling."

TERRIFIC!
I ordered this to make my husband happy- he loves it! Not only does it look great, it is very functional. The base is heavy enough to allow one-handed tearing of the towels. This is a great looking useful item in my kitchen!

Nice looking, but bad quality
This can makes me very disappointed. One of the plastic pieces on the movable cover was broken after two months of use. The plastic pieces at the bottom did not last longer: they were not functioning well within the first year. Avoid this trashcan!

broken in less that one year
I too was attracted by the shiny, pretty, space saving can for our small kitchen. The exact same part that the above customers state was malfunctional also broke on our can in less than one year of normal use.

Quality and design are great

Oval Step Can - Large

    Review for Round Can
I have the round version of this can and wish to return it. I've used it for a couple weeks and it's so hard getting the bags out of the trashcan without ripping the bag, pulling off the moulding, and hurting your back. Never again.

    Not worth the nice look
I would NOT recommend the large version. The small one works fine, but there are design differences with the large one that make it very frustrating to use. The large one did not shut all the way, the metal stick to open/close it would come out of the hole sometimes, and it was very hard to empty. If there is only a little garbage, then the bag would come out normally. But if the bag was full (which normally you would use it until it is full!), then it was difficult to lift out. It would take two people to maneuver the bag out and would tear before it was completely out (even with heavy duty garbage bags). It looks like nice, but I would only get the small one.

    Bad Design
I bought this trash can at the store. After taking it out of the box, I noticed that the top did not fit snuggly after opening. The top moved too much on the hinge, and the only way to align the top with the can was to do with my hand - so much for step open/close functionality. I returned the can and never bought another as I figured the same hinge that caused a brand new trash can to fail would fail on another one sooner or later.

Nice looking, but too narrow and clogs easily
    The good:

Very nice looking product, as are all the Simplehuman trash cans. The opening mechanism is quite smooth, no annoying "clang" as the lid closes (like with some of their other products).

    The bad:

In practice, the tall, round form factor of the round cans just doesn't work. The can isn't wide enough to accomodate empty boxes or anything much more bulky than a wadded up piece of paper. This might not be an issue if you're planning to use it for a room other than a kitchen. But the kitchen was your planned destination for your trash can, I'd strongly recommend getting one of the cans with a wider opening (the rectangular or butterfly shapes). Otherwise, almost any normal kitchen trash (empty food boxes, 2L soda bottles, etc) will clog the can and reduce the usable disposal space to almost nil.

The can dents extremely easily, not taking much more pressure than it would to dent an empty aluminum soda can. Shallow dents can be pounded out with a good whack to the inside of the can, but any deep dent will leave an ugly mark on the "skin" of the can.

Standard bulk trash bags aren't a good fit, being wider and shorter than what would fit this can. You'll end up wrapping half the bag around the top to take up the slack, and the bag won't reach the bottom of the can. Simplehuman sells fitted bags for their cans, but they're like $6/20 count, about the same price as a bulk roll of 250 at Walmart.

It would be nice if there were some sort of clip to hold the bag in place. There's a bit of a rim at the top of the plastic liner, but it's not quite enough to hold it tightly in place.

    Conclusion:

Beautiful, but without the function to match. I'm kicking myself that I bought this instead of the (admittedly much more expensive) butterfly or rectangular can - I wound up with a pretty trash can that I can't stand to use. I'll be happy if I can garage sale the thing and use the proceeds towards buying the 38L Butterfly can. My parents have it and love it, and I've envied that can ever since I first saw it.
