Its Great but some disadvantages!
Before I purchased the Dyson Dc07 I tried Orick Vac and that thing had only a few advantage over the Dyson and that is the Orick was really light weight and it could go under coffee tables and chairs with ease.
The Dyson sucks so well when I use the floor attachment on the bare floor I cannot lift it for it sucks the floor! Not even me and my husband can break off the suction. Its amazing! Right away it pulled up so much dirt in my carpet which I had it profestionally cleaned not even a week ago! So I am shocked at the power.
There are a few draw backs but I would still pay the money for it.
1>)One is its a little heavy for my taste and if you pay the price it should have power stearing like my old vac.
2>) Its made out of plastic and the first vac Amazon sent me was broken so I dont think its a good sterdy plastic so I am very careful. Normally I am very hard with my vacs.
3>)Third, Unless you get the floor attachments you cannot get it under a coffee table or chairs.
But for the power your getting is well worth all the above sacrafices!
It actually Makes your Carpet FEEL and LOOK Clean!

If it had a fan club I'd be President of it
This is the single best appliance I've ever bought in my whole life. I'm in love with it. I have two hairy dogs who blow their coats at different times and no vacuum ever seemed to put a dent in the dog fur embedded in the carpet. Then I saw an ad on TV for the Dyson and did a little research. The science seemed solid -- this is the sort of innovation where everyone thinks it should have been obvious from the start -- so I took the plunge and bought the Dyson.

Every claim made by the manufacturer is true. The Dyson picks up everything, is incredibly easy to empty, and my carpets and floors look better than they ever have. Every time I use it I'm astonished all over again by how long I was willing to put up with lesser vacuums and poorer results. Yes, it costs a good bit of money but I don't regret a dime of it. And when I pass by the vacuum cleaner bags in the grocery store, I just laugh, knowing I'll never have to buy them again, let alone try to wrestle them into position or get them back out.

This is a superb product -- a genuine advancement that produces superior results. No one should put up with anything less than that which a Dyson can provide. It's just a wonderful thing to have. So stop reading already and go buy one!

After one year's use
After carefully studying all types of vacuums, I bought a Dyson a year ago. At the time, I thought I had a good vacuum, but it was needing a part that would cost almost half what a new vacuum would, so I took the Dyson plunge. I vacuumed my floors with my old vacuum immediately prior to using the new Dyson, and I was horrified at what the Dyson picked up out of the carpet. I have been a believer ever since. The attachments are so easy to use and always at your fingertips. Emptying the vacuum canister is so simple and clean. I have recommended it enthusiastically, and as a result, I have 5 friends and family who have also bought one. My housekeeper was extremely impressed with its cleaning power and ease of use. She praised it so much to her other clients, some of them have purchased a Dyson based on her recommendation. After one year of use, I still can't praise the Dyson enough.

An outstanding Vacuum Cleaner!
Let me begin by saying that I have three dogs and two cats. Pet hair is the biggest cleaning challenge in our house.

After convincing my wife to discontinue our professional cleaning service, due to increasing costs, I volunteered to take the cleaning duties related to the floors and the furniture. My wife foolishly took on the kitchen, bathrooms, and dusting. What my wife didn't know was that I had been reading up on the Dyson "Animal".

The "Animal" arrived just two days after our last professional cleaning. I immediately vacuumed the entire house and was absolutely amazed at how much pet hair and dirt I pulled out of the carpets and off our hardwood floors. Our house has never been so absent of pet hair. Even my pets were beside themselves. My wife was thoroughly impressed. She said that the house looked and smelled cleaner than ever!

The "Animal" is a total cleaning machine. It easily attacked hardwood floors, carpets, curtains, furniture, and stairs. It's the best cleaning machine I have ever used. Adding a sixth animal to our family was the best thing I ever did!

If you have pets and need a high powered cleaning machine, get the "Animal"! It's worth the money! I donated my old cleaning machines to our YMCA.

So much better than any other vacuum!
*
My last vacuum, prior to finally purchasing a Dyson Animal, was a top-of-the-line Hoover WindTunnel V2. When it was new, the Hoover performed well, and I really loved the Turbo Tool (a smaller version of the similar attachment which comes with the Dyson); but the main H.E.P.A. filter cartridge was clogged and ruined in short order by the super-fine local dust in my carpet (I live on a hill, surrounded by protected, undeveloped County land, in a semi-semi-semi-rural area, and there is always a fine coat of dust on everything), not to mention the dog hair and cat hair, the parakeet down and birdseed, dried bits of grass, burrs and foliage which get dragged-in stuck to the cats, and the dirt left behind by a messy plumbing contractor husband (he comes home with his jeans covered in clumps of dried-on mud, which of course flakes off and crumbles all over the place as he walks around the house, and he wonders why that upsets me).
In my house, the Hoover H.E.P.A. filters only lasted about 20% of the recommend filter life. After replacing the filters only 5 times, I had already nearly doubled the original cost of the Hoover vacuum within about a year!
I had known about the Dyson for quite a while, but was reluctant to invest the extra money...until I allowed myself to face the fact that replacing the Hoover filters was costing an arm and a leg on a fairly frequent basis, and continuing to buy filters was just dumb, when there was an alternative.
I started searching for the best price on the Dyson (I'm virtually always a staunch comparison shopper anyway, just on principle). I shopped and shopped and waited and waited and finally got the Dyson Animal on sale.
Man, I wish I had just broken down and bought it earlier.
What a difference! Like another of the Reviewers here, I tested the Dyson by first vacuuming with the Hoover WindTunnel (new filters installed), and following immediately with the Dyson Animal. The Dyson made the Hoover seem like a toy! It removed 2 times over again the amount of dirt, dust, lint, fuzz, bits of dried grass and leaves, crumbs and pet hair from carpet I had just vacuumed with the Hoover moments earlier! And I had thought that my carpet was pretty clean after vacuuming with the Hoover WindTunnel. YUCK!
The Dyson grooms the carpet really well, too; lifting the nap and making it appear all plush and nearly new. Must be that constant suction power.
Any other readily available vacuum, bag or bag-less, upright or canister, just cannot compete with the modern Dyson cyclonic technology.
A Dyson is also simple to operate, rolls smoothly, doesn't tip over, and is not heavy (once you get it out of the box and assembled). The controls, multiple functions, cord holder, attachments, etc. are well designed and easy to manipulate. It is easy to lift (has a strategically placed handle) for moving about or to carry upstairs. The "Lifetime" filters can be easily cleaned just by rinsing or washing in mild sudsy water - follow the instructions and the recommended timetable; it even has a built-in reminder of when the filter should be cleaned.
The Dyson is also a lot easier to clean, and to empty the catching bin. It seems to generate far less static electricity than other plastic-housed machines, and dust doesn't build-up on it as readily.
It is far more versatile than most other vacuums, especially with the accessories that come with the Animal model, and - considering its power - IT IS VERY QUIET! You can actually carry-on a conversation while vacuuming with a Dyson, by speaking only a little louder than normal, instead of shouting "WHAT?!" or having to stop your cleaning when somebody just simply cannot wait to ask you something.
Based on my experience, I would highly recommend a Dyson for anyone who is shopping for a full-sized vacuum cleaner.
Yes, it seems quite a bit more money to spend for a small household appliance, and is even very expensive for many people; save-up for it if you can! It will be well worth it. The Dyson cleans better than any other vacuum currently on the market, and keeping your carpets and upholstery clean will extend the fabric life, and help keep them looking in top condition.
I can hardly wait for Dyson to come up with a compact, "light-weight", "stick" version. Wonder if that's in the works?

Amazing!!!
Well I decided to purchase a new vacuum since our Hoover V2 just wasn't cutting it. After reading all the rave reviews on Amazon and shopping around on the internet I decided to buy one from Linens and Things. I was lucky cause my girlfriend had a Bed Bath & Beyond 20% off coupon that I was able to use there and the Dyson Animal was marked incorrectly at $429. After the discount and tax I paid $368. This was a start to a great experience, lol. Once I got it home I put together and that was pretty easy. Then came the true test. My household has 3 cats and 2 dogs so you can imagine the amount of hair and dust that can accumulate. I plugged the Dyson in and my first impression was "WOW". This vacuum was a lot quieter than the Hoover we had. Then I started to vacuum the carpet and I couldn't believe how easy it was to push and manuever. I kept thinking that there was no way this was picking up that much dirt but boy was I wrong. Keep in mind I just vacuumed our house yesterday. The Dyson picked up so much dirt and hair!!!! It works great on both hard floors and carpet. This is by far the best vacuum we've owned. I strongly recommend this to anyone. The price may seem steep but consider that you don't have to buy replacement filters, bags or belts and this thing pays for itself.

Carpets beware!
Okay, so I waited a whole year to part with the $400 to buy a Dyson. I was so excited when I finally got I home I had to try it right away. So I vacuumed the berber in my family room, which hadn't been done in 5 Days, looked in the canister after I was done and was not impressed: not much in there. Looked down at the vacuum and realized, Whoops, hadn't turned on the brush. So I did that, went over the rug again and there was a lot more fuzz in the canister. But... here's the thing, that fluff comes at a price, because when I turned the vacuum over and looked at the brush I saw the hardest stiffest bristles I have ever seen in my life. And that can not be good for a rug over time. If you ever look at the bristles on other vacuums they feel soft, so they won't tear up the fibers on the rug.
According to the manuel; you should turn the brush off when doing delicate carpets. Well, aren't most carpets a bit delicate.
Also, I compared the suction on the Dyson hose with the suction coming out of the hose of my 9 year old Kenmore canister. The old Kenmore had superior suction. The Dyson can also be a bit hard to push on plush carpet.
So after 2 days, I returned my Dyson. The only reason I gave it 2 stars, was that it is very good on hard floors ,but I don't have enough of those in my house to justify keeping a $400 vacuum.

Screamin' Yellow Machine
This is one powerful vacuum. I researched it on the internet (Dyson has a great web site) and read about it in a couple of magazines. I was impressed and decided to try it. After using it in my country home I can say it's close to, but not, alas, perfect for my needs. I have a mixture of floor surfaces; hard wood, linoleum, tile, wall to wall carpet and LOTS of area rugs. And I have plenty of dirt, pets and people running through the house in all seasons. The Dyson is great on everything EXCEPT the area rugs, which it has a tendency to try to gobble up... The suction power is irrefutable and I will never look at my (or anyone else's) carpets the same way again. I pulled 3 cannisters of dirt, hair and sand out of my 8' x 11' area rug with the first use of the Dyson after a recent run over the same rug with my old vacuum! Unfortunately, the Dyson also tried to eat the area rug and made a horrible sound while doing so. After a toll free call to Dyson's service center (at 5:30 pm on a Sunday evening) I was instructed to turn off the "beater brushes" and use the mode for bare floors. The horrendous sound and the "gobbling" stopped, but unfortunately without the beater brush, the machine did not do an adequate cleaning job on the area rug.

PROS: quiet operation, very powerful, easy to clean dirt cannister, super long cord, super long "expanding" hose with attachments makes cleaning stairs, crevices and window sills easy, great on wall to wall carpet and hard wood, tile and linoleum floors, carries tools on board, light weight and easy to manuever without self-propulsion, lifetime air filters and bagless design saves money and the environment, GREAT phone based customer support.

CONS: pricey, encounters problems with area rugs, difficult to assemble out of box (required a call to toll free customer service to solve an assembly problem), instruction booklet a little sparse, mostly plastic parts raise some concern with a new product, at [this price] all the accessories (floor tool and pet hair tool) should be standard -- NOT "extras", poor response from e-mail customer service on their web site, unable to purchase "accessories" right now and not able to find out from company when these will be available.

RECOMMENDED? Yes BUT with some reservations - if you have hard floor and/or wall to wall carpet surfaces and are willing to pay for good design and power with convenience, this might be the right vacuum for you. If you have lots of large, area rugs, you might want to consider something else

Refurbished dyson works great, warranty honored.
The Dyson DC07 was a little heavier than I expected but maneuvers easily. Transitions well from hard floors to rugs. Cleans better than any upright vacuum I've owned. I was disappointed with the refurbished sweeper when I tried to empty the collection bin, it wouldn't.

I phoned customer service and was pleased to learn that they would replace the chamber/bin no questions asked. I received the part within the week and now the sweeper works fine. I am disappointed that the warranty is only for 6 months, but don't expect to need it again.

Better than perfect...
I have purchased other reconditioned products at Amazon.com and have been very happy each of them, but this Dyson reconditioned exceeded all my expectations. The unit was in pristine condition, almost better than new. As usual with Dyson the performance was unsurpassed. I could not be happier.

Best Vacuum I've ever seen.
On Monday, I Steam cleaned the carpet with our hover steam cleaner. On Tuesday our reconditioned Dyson arrived in almost new condition, there are a few scuff marks on it. We vacuumed the carpet and got a full canister of dog and cat hair along with some very fine dirt.

I am sold, this thing is just flat impressive. Another nice surprise was that it is not very noisy compared to some other vacuums we have had. I have called Dyson and ordered the turbo brush to go with our Yellow Dyson. I think that would be helpful on furniture. Bottom line, good price when compared to the new ones. Reconditioned one is in like new condition, and it picks up stuff you would not believe. My friend has a Bissell turbo type vac. and not only does he have to empty the dirt bin he also has to clean the filters out. This Dyson picks up dirt his machine left behind, and it was all in the bin, the filter looks new.

I would not hesitate to recommend this machine to my friends!

Good - not great!!
I was looking for a bagless canister vacuum to use mainly on my hardwood and tile floors. I already have the Dyson Purple Animal which does a great job on carpet, but I can't get under furniture with it without using the wand and floor tool. My first impression of the Telescope was that it was doing a good job of cleaning the areas for which I bought it. But there were a few problems - 1) the power cord is awfully short (compared to the Animal), 2) the air driven brush on the floor tool comes on when the machine is turned on - you have to turn it off for hard floors by pushing in on a lever of sorts on the side of the tool. The problem is that when you're doing carpet the slightest touch to this lever turns it off - such as when you bump into a piece of furniture, or even the edge of a comforter hanging from the bed. It is very sensitive to touch and doesn't always stay out the first time you pull it out. 3) The floor tool from the Animal will not work with the Telescope. There is an adapter to make the Turbo tool work with the telescope, but not the floor tool. I prefer the bristle floor tool from the Animal to the floor tool which comes with the Telescope and was disappointed that it wouldn't fit. Customer service was wonderful and they sent the adapter for the Turbo tool, which I then adapted myself to use with the floor tool. 4) The power on/off button and the power cord rewind are colored and shaped the same, just on different sides of the machine. You have to look carefully (or memorize the locations) to avoid hitting the wrong one. 5) Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I've ever used it and had the telescoping wand stay extended the first time. One section always collapses and I have to extend it again.

Overall, the Dyson machines are very nice - clean well, store easily, empty easily. The Telescope is amazingly small when in storage mode and it's easy to carry when cleaning. While I'm not planning on returning the Telescope, if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't purchase it. I don't think it's worth the money being charged for it.

IT SUCKS, BUT THAT'S A GOOD THING.... :)
Ok, after much deliberation, I bought the Dyson canister for the sheer selling point that it was a canister and it was made by Dyson. I won't lie, I have waited for the Dyson canister to be released here in the States since they started marketing the DC07. I really liked the idea of a bagless canister with no filters to buy. My family is very health conscious and we try to do our part for the environment. Upon inspection of the unit after removing it from the box, I noticed that the HEPA filter was of great quality and the bactisafe screen just looked cool. I plugged it in and kicked it on and much to my surprise it had as much suction, if not more, than the Animal upright. The downside to the DC11 is the fact that its turbobrush is air-turbine powered and tends to slow down or stop a lot on medium to high pile carpets. Our house is one of theose strange creatures with high pile, medium pile, tile, wood, and even cork. So, I tested the vacuum on all the floors and found it worked great on everything except carpet. There it seemed to be lacking. I tested it for about a week and then was forced to return it for an Animal upright. After vacuuming with the DC11 and then going over the same areas of carpet with a Eureka canister with powered brush, I found the Eureka was removing almost as much dirt and from the carpet as the Dyson originally did. There is just not enough agitation in the brush to work great on carpet. Final verdict, great for floor, may need some compromise for carpets.

Dyson DC11 - Great Find!
We have had our DC11 for three weeks at the time I am writing this. It replaced a 5 year old top of the line Hoover canister that died. The Hoover proved to be only average in total satisfaction over the time we had it. When searching for a new vacuum my top priorities were suction, bag-less and HEPA filtration. I was willing to sacrifice in other areas for these key features. I considered most of the top brands but was enticed by the Dyson because it was not only bag-less but also had a lifetime HEPA filter which will save lots of money and waist over the life of the unit. After getting the DC11 I was immediately impressed with the build quality and suction. There are lots of smart design features which make using unit a joy. We have about 50/50 medium pile carpet and hard floors, it cleans each equally well. My only real complaint is the length of the hose and cord are on the short side. This is not major and I am happy to live with it and is even less of an issue being that the unit is so light an portable. The unit is not the most quite on the market but that was not a key selling point for me. It is much quieter then our old vac but noticeably louder then a Lindhaus. I highly recommend the DC11 if you are looking for a vacuum with great suction, no bags and lifetime HEPA filters.
