Okay But Only Cleans Floors
good quality, well made, works as advertisedI would have given it five stars except for one thing, it is a little bit heavy. I don't know if it should be lighter, after all it has to be durable and not flimsy. And it is durable and sturdy. However because of the weight, it's not something you can just whip out and zip around like a Swiffer Wet Jet. However, it cleans better than the Wet Jet and you don't have to smell the strong cleaning solution. So if you mop once or twice a week and you are not in a total rush, you will really like the Bissel Steam Mop.
Works for me!Setup was a breeze out of the box and only a phillips screw drive was needed. Mine came with four mop pads, which were fairly easy to put on. After that, it was just a matter of putting water in the tank and plugging it in. Although distilled water is recommended (to prolong filter life), it isn't necessary.
While using the Bissell 1867 was easy, the mop doesn't glide across the floor as easily as a regular classic mop and requires just a little bit of muscle. Aside from that, the mop easily fit under cabinets and was fairly easy to maneuver around objects.
I really liked the fact that the mop uses steam to do the cleaning instead of relying on chemicals. Great if you have little ones around. Also, the steam does dry pretty quickly within a couple to a few minutes. While it doesn't pick up scuff marks from marking soles very well, it did do a great job on just about everything else.
Since you don't have to bother with a bucket and rinsing and there is virtually no clean up, this had made mopping less of a hassle. When you're done mopping, just remove the pad and throw it in the wash. I've already mopped the kitchen floor four times in the past month and mopped the laundry room, which I always found an excuse not to do.
If you're like me and hate dirty floors, but hate to mop, then this is the mop for you!

Very good but not perfectThe good: It does an excellent job of cleaning carpets and has good suction. It has 7 height adjustment settings, a carpet/hard floor switch which turns off the roller brush when set to hard floor, a hose/floor selector which also shuts off the roller brush when set to hose, an HEPA filter and a motor filter. It has the appearance of a quality made vacuum which was not true of some Eureka vacuums I have owned in the past.
The Bad: It is heavy (but so are most Hoovers), the on/off switch could be more conveniently located, it is rather cumbersome to maneuver in small bathrooms and closets. The foot pedal that releases the handle is rather stiff and awkward but it gets easier with use. I have not had the vacuum long enough to judge its durability.
Personally, I prefer a 13 inch vacuum because they are much easier to use in tight spots and small rooms, but every manufacturer has gone to the 15 inch vacuum in their more deluxe models. In my opinion, there are more features to like than to dislike about this vacuum.
A little heavy, but besides that it is EXCELLENT
Cleans Acres of Carpet and Mile after Mile of TileAfter we pared down the list, we consulted the leading consumer reporting magazine and bought the highest rated model we could afford. And that's how we came to own this cleaner.
I vaguely remember reading that Eureka's engineers cobbled together the prototype for The Boss SmartVac series by actually mounting a classic "torpedo" canister cleaner and its motorized carpet brush on a wheeled rig with a handle. Once they determined that it COULD be done, they refined the design into a unit that really does combine the suction power of a canister with the carpet cleaning ability and easy mobility of an upright, with the added convenience of having the cleaning tools along for the ride. You can see the "canister cleaner on wheels" inspiration in the larger photo here on Amazon.com.
In operation, the cleaner is surprisingly quiet, producing a breathy drone that still permits conversation. Though not self-propelled, the cleaner's brush roller turns so rapidly, it almost propels the cleaner for you. A headlight helps you spot obstacles in the cleaner's path.
The 15-inch wide cleaning path shortens your vacuuming time and offers right-up-to-the-baseboard edge cleaning ability. For more stubborn debris, you can put together the extension wand and attach the crevice tool. The upholstery tool does an admirable job on carpeting under, say, a bed that can't be moved. One notable feature: When the handle is returned to the fully upright position, as when cleaning with tools, the brush roller stops, preventing worn spots on your carpet. A brush roller switch lets you turn off the brush roller at other times for sweeping bare floors.
A few engineering features are worth mentioning. The cleaner's motor is completely isolated from the suction path and protected by its own final stage filter, meaning small hard objects like coins, nutshells and buttons won't damage the fan blades or jam the motor. The micron filtration dust bag, motor filter and HEPA filter equal 3 stages of filtration before the air is expelled. The brush roller belt follows a twist-free path, extending its life and reducing the risk of belt breakage. Should debris actually clog the suction path, all of the hoses can be detached and cleared. If a particularly nasty item has damaged the hose or pipe, the parts can be easily replaced by the consumer.
After vacuuming the carpet in the master bedroom and some of the living room, we already noticed a measurable level of dirt in the first bag, an indication of the dirt left behind by our aging Hoover Decade 80 upright. We expect bags in the future to last a tad longer.
If you expect to use the cleaner a lot, you can upgrade the disposable HEPA filter to a washable CleanStream HEPA filter. Details are at www.cleanstreamfilters.com.

Cool, but not good on pet hair, carpets. As soon as it arrived, we fully charged the battery (12hrs) and set it loose in our living room. From our upstairs bedroom, it sounded like somebody was being mugged. eeeeeeeeee.... BOOM! eeeeee.... BOOM! eeeeeee.... BOOM!.
It did a decent job, but not nearly as thorough as a real vacuum. Noticably poor at cleaning border areas... ie, carpet edge meets hardwood, I watched it repeatedly roll over clumps of dog hair in these borders and not pick them up.
Perhaps, since it's battery powered, it doesn't have enough suction to pull hair all the way into the dust bin, so it just wraps it around the brush.
When you add the time spent cleaning the brush, moving chairs so it doesn't get trapped and emptying the smallish dust bin two times per room, you could have used a conventional vacuum and done a much better job.
I would recommend Roomba only for non carpet, no-pet situations. I returned mine, but will not rule out the next generation of these devices.
Love it!

Way overrated! Engineers need to go back to drawing board!
buy some earplugs
Some don't have a HEPA (That's a good thing!!!!)We're poor college students and we're expecting a baby in 4 weeks, so money is very tight. We like the bagless feature for that reason, but were wary of the HEPA filters. They can be very expensive, and we don't have allergies, so we don't need HEPA filtration. After doing some research at the store (Target) and on the Bissell Web site, we found that a certain model (Series 1) has three washable filters instead of the HEPA. These foam filters are under $4 each. So when we saw that our local Target store carried the non-HEPA model, we ran right out and bought it.
While doing research at the store, I tried out the various brands' bagless dirt cups. This is BY FAR the easiest to empty! The others have a filter inside the dirt cup, making emptying much messier. After using the Bissell last night, the only thing I did not like about the dirt cup is that after you empty it, when you slide it back in, it knocks some dust off the upper filter.
I did not notice any black marks from the furniture guard, and if I did, I would simply put some masking tape over the guard. That just isn't that big of a problem that would make me not buy the vacuum.

It's great, but not a miracle...
Cannot Live WithoutThe other benefit of this is that the floor is dried almost instantly - which prevents my small children from slipping on a wet floor.
If this machine ever broke - I would replace it immediately. I put it in the same indispensible categories as my dishwasher, vacuum, and washer/dryer.
I recommend this machine - which is especially nice to be able to clean floors such as basement, garage, and other areas where a sink is not available to aid in mopping - besides, this gets it much cleaner.
Easy to use and does a good jobThe poor reviews seem to come from folks with unrealistic expectations. The vacuum is ok--not as good as a powerful upright or a shop vac, but certainly gets up dust and debris. The wet cleaning is very easy and leaves the floor virtually dry when you're done. The dirty water sucked up off the floor attests to the ability of the machine to clean. While I had to refill and empty several times, this was easy to do. And the floors looked great when done. I then used the machine in my own home and was again impressed at how much dirt it actually got off floors I thought were pretty clean already.
Probably nothing will clean like getting down on your knees and killing yourself. But who needs anything to be that clean unless you're living in an operating room?

A lot of power for a small machineIt does, however, have a lot of pluses:
1. Suction power. This is really a big plus, and I never fail to be amazed that such a small lightweight machine can really have such strong suction.
2. This is very lightweight. I find myself using this machine constantly for small messes when I don't want to drag out my heavy upright. You do have to plug it in, but I haven't found a cordless yet that really works, so I am not comparing it to a cordless vac.
3. When using the small attachment, you can get really get in nooks and cranny that NO OTHER vacuum can reach.
Minuses:
1. The attachments are not enough - I find I can't really do my steps because it lacks the right attachment for that. (I can vacuum using the small attachment, but it takes a little too long)
2. It's a little hard to open the vac to empty the dirt compartment, you have to hold it down in just the right place, etc. I have finally figured out how to do it (you have to line it up exactly so), but I consider that a small price to pay for a really good cheap vac.
3. It IS corded (you have to plug it in), but you knew that.
Basically, I find myself using this vac all the time, I wish I can say the same for my big heavy upright. I even vacuumed my car more than once (using a grounded extension cord) and I was amazed how easy it was to use and how well it cleaned. One tip - I find that the key to maintaining really great suction is to constantly empty it - I kept forgetting as I watched whole pretzels disappearing inside with ease - that it's really a small vacuum.
Dangerously powerful...
Unreal power in a tiny vac! Handy accessories to boot!
- Compact multipurpose wet vacuum delivers thorough deep cleaning
- Powerful spray and suction clean and help dry in one step
- Built-in heater keeps water hot for optimal results
- Rotating TurboBrush gets at ground-in dirt
- Measures 17-1/4 by 8-1/4 by 14-1/2 inches; weighs 11.65 pounds

Overpriced considering the problems encountered
Great Compact CleanerThe clean water tank leaks a little when standing upright, but if you hurry up and slide it into place it's only a few drips. The turbo brush seems like a bit of a waste to me, it isn't powerful enough to clean better than the standard brush. Keep in mind also that this machine isn't meant to clean an entire room, it is compact.
The little green took care of the stains that resolve couldn't handle. I highly recommend the Little Green Proheat!
Works great on pet stainsPros:
-INCREDIBLY easy to use
-Works GREAT on new stains!
-Heats up quickly
-Not too heavy, easy to lug around
-Attractive design
Cons:
-Sometimes leaks (I just suck the leaks back up)
-Suction could be better (does a decent job)
-Have to get down on your knees to use this machine
-Somewhat loud, especially when it's on "brush" mode
-Doesn't work that well on old stains
Overall, I have found it to be well worth the cost. It has some downsides, but it does its job well. This cleaner is NOT meant to do entire rooms with, it's best when used for spot cleaning.
While it doesn't work well on old stains, it does work a little. I scrubbed at some older stains with it and they faded to about half what they were before.
That being said, this is a decent product. I have not tried any similar products to compare, as this one does what I needed it to do. I highly recommend it for that reason.

THE BEST BANG 4 YOUR BUCK! blows the shark and others away!I have 2 housetrained rabbits, everyday i use the vacuum to pick up hay, fur and of course crumbs from around the table, and it does a great job. it can fit into corners, under almost anything, and is very manuverable and lightweight.
It doesn't make a lot of noise compared to bigger vac's, so it doesn't scare pets when used around them. The charge lasts almost 30 minutes, that's enough time to vacuum a large living room, kitchen, foyer den..and two large rabbit condos that have carpeting in them, and there is alot of charge left in it....
The only thing negative is after a while the carbon chips come out of the filter, but this is not a big deal. I've had mine now for 2 yrs, the same battery, it is still going strong.
It makes a great gift, too! Everyone i bought it for loves it!
they also bought it for a gift, so it's definately popular..
Don't buy an expensive alternative, like the shark, the whirlpool model, or anyother cordless vac that costs more, you will be disappointed and waste your money....
This is a great little vacuum, for the price, you can't beat it. Retail stores don't carry it, they want you to buy the more pricey models they have, don't settle for second best!!
GREAT LITTLE UNITYes, you have to empty the collection cup every few minutes... but that's because it's doing such a fantastic job. I have 4 shorthaired dogs....and I am amazed at how it picks up the hair. My big vacuum doesnt do as good a job!!! It's light, completely portable and works quite well. The one problem I think some of the others ran into is that this battery DOES HAVE A MEMORY. So, YOU CANT LEAVE IT PLUGGED INTO THE RECHARGER ALL THE TIME. You fully discharge it, then recharge it, and disconnect it from the wall. The manual is VERY CLEAR ABOUT THIS POINT.
Anyway, this item is meant to be a toy for kids, but for quick clean ups, or for those who are disabled and cant manage a heavy vacuum, this is perfect. I love mine.
Wife loves it

Dirt Devil is an Angel! The dirt devil came through! It removed the pet hair plus all the other dust particles i didn't even know were there.
I would recommend this to anyone! .. Very, very powerful vacuum.
One warning: It is very loud. But that's because of the power.
Cool vacuum! For pet hair and my dads truck, this thing is awesome! My dad got it from Amazon.com...got here the same week we ordered it. He told me I could write a review so I did. Get this vacuum, it ROCKS! O.K....it's just a little hand held vacuum, but it orks really good.
Great Little MachineDirt Devil improved their products by adding suction. Previous machines had a brush that just spun the dirt around, except for the stuff that "happened" to get pushed into the collector, with the remainder staying on the carpet. The combination of brushing action and suction make this actually work like a full-sized vacuum. It's a lot easier to clean stairs nowadays, rather than lugging my full-sized one up, and I can even assign the stair vacuuming to one of my children, which wasn't possible with my upright.
I use it regularly in the car and it works like a champ. I was never happy with my canister working on the car and I even tried a mini-shop vac. (I suppose if I had a big shop vac that would work better, but I didn't want one taking up the space and for use only for the car.) It seemed the only vacuums I was happy with for the car were the ones at the car wash, which sucked up almost anything that wasn't bolted down to the floor. But alas, this Dirt Devil is now my fav for the car. It switches from using the brush head to the hose attachment in seconds, allowing me to use the crevice cleaner quickly. Next to the car wash turbo-vacs, this is the best I've used in the car.
Everything fits "on-board." The head slides off so you can get in tighter places or the hose snaps off and you can use the crevice tool. The cord is nice and long.
The only suggestion I have is to include or offer a wall storage unit. But the convenience and power of this little package is worth finding the space for it in my home. And for the price, you can't beat it.
Enjoy!
